SPY REPORT
You must forgive the dust on my parchment. The press box is far too distant for a day
like this. For Turn 1000 of the Jhans arena, I needed to be on the sands themselves--
boots sinking into the churned earth, sweat and blood in the air, the clash of steel
ringing in my ears. This was no ordinary turn. This was a milestone. And a milestone
demanded that I stand in the pit alongside the gladiators.
The crowd roared as Barkeep Barb fought tooth and nail to hold the Duelmaster's
throne. It wasn't pretty. Cloudskimmer tried to play spoiler on his exit from the
arena, but he was unsuccessful after a grueling 7-minute trial. Barb keeps the title
another turn, and I swear I heard her promise the front row a round on the house.
Jhans loves a champion who can fight and offer a free mug in celebration.
Steel sang throughout the day and in every corner. Assail and Alosia locked horns in a
contest of pride and scars. Assail barely came away with the victory, carving his name
deeply into the arena's records. Bonegrin, that savage wolf among men, made short work
of Slettu. Leman and Kuurus proved once again that shadows thrive in Jhans, even
during the day.
A welcome to the newcomers, The Whispers, who strolled into the arena and had a
perfect turn. Not everyone was so flawless. Clan Battleaxe II dropped in the ranking
after a 1-4. Luckily, the original Clan Battleaxe fared better with a 3-2. Monoceros
dropped from the listings, but Jhans remains steady with nine teams.
Onto the farewells! Cloudskimmer and Dahlia depart for Advanced. Cloudskimmer leaves
with a loss, but did not lose any adoration from the crowd since it was against our
reigning champion. Dahlia faced a more straightforward path on her final fight against
an arena stand-by, but she did win her final bout. Raise a cup for them and their
continued success away from Jhans.
So, here we are: Turn 1000. One thousand times the gates have opened, one thousand
times the crowd has screamed, one thousand times blood has sunk into this sand. Jhans
still endures. Fierce, brutal, unrelenting, alive. Don't get too caught up in all the
sentiment. We return in a fortnight, and the sand will drink just as greedily on Turn
1001.
