DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
Notes from the arena champ.
Today we celebrate The Pen. I didn't expect him to be duelmaster anytime soon, but
here we are! The hisotry of the "bullpen" dates back to the 19th century. There are
many theories as to the origin of the bullpen, but the favored one tells that there
used to be a pen-like area where late-arriving fans congregated to watch the game.
When relief pictching was introduced, the pitchers needed a place to warm up before
they came into the game, and that's where they went.
"The Pen" refers specifically to an area around the home and visitor bullpens in the
Seattle Mariners' T-Mobile Park. YOu can stand next to a railing, just 20-30 feet away
from the pitchers warming up. I was most impressed by the sound of the ball being
thrown and the loud smack it makes in the catcher's glove.
While The Pen may not be mightier than most swords, he's a fun Parry-Riposte, and
cheers to him for making it to the top!

Welcome KATI-TEI. I, Olaf Modeen remember this place well. Many the fights
have I fought here. The celebrations, the disappointments... It seems so recently
people were saying NEON MYSTICS was washed up, finished. But 3-1-0 moved them up 1.
I guess they're washed no more... What's with SUN MONSTER? He actually beat NAWLINS
RU2's FRENCH QUARTER, and walked away with 14 more points from the fight. Laughs
were big at DEATH'S ARMY while they watched BROKEN BRAKE LINE clobber SHADOWSCAR.
He lost 8 points and got bruised from objects thrown from the stands. VIRGINAL
CONCUBINE was reminded on the sands why THE PEN is Duelmaster. I suppose you want to
hear some rumors and dirty gossip about your fellow fighters? Tough!
No matter the time or place, men will always duel. KATI-TEI thinks FIELDS OF
DREAMS and their 174-80-10 is too much! If at first you don't succeed, give up...
The bums at DEATH'S ARMY couldn't face the challenges from FIELDS OF DREAMS! No
excuse for that! What do people see in CATWALK? Hers 14-8-0? FIELDS OF DREAMS
ain't talkin', but she's got 56 points.
There have been some calls to lengthen the time limit. Do you want the fighters
to walk away, or not? I like to see warriors put young whippersnappers in their
place. I guess you could say FIELDS OF DREAMS'SUN MONSTER did just that. Right
NAWLINS RU2? Is it my imagination, or are fighters getting younger every day? To
die so young, so gloriously!
Many other cities have retirement homes for aged warriors. Any plans here?
