TEAM SPOTLIGHT
Perry County, a land of beauty and freedom.
In 1963, when I went off to big-city college, one class my first year was Economics
101. Dr. Arensman, the professor, passed around a few copies of a just published
national and prominent magazine. Filled with economic info, one title on the cover was
"The Impoverished County In Indiana." This interested all of us, especially looking at
the photos.
I saw shacks in the woods, falling down lean-tos, outhouses galore, shoeless children,
abandoned coal mines, a ferry across a mile wide river, and many seemingly downtrodden
photos.
How surprised I was to see that this was my home Perry County in Indiana! Perhaps
because I was luckily born to a middle class family? Perhaps because I thought little
of using outhouses (Sears catalogs were the common outhouse toilet paper of the day)
or flitting around barefooted outside? Perhaps my town (the 2nd largest in the county
with just over 2000 people; the largest was appx 10,000 and between the two of us that
comprised half of the county population) was more prosperous than the larger outlying
areas?
And, yet, I thought I lived in the best place anyone could ask for. Perhaps I did.

DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
Notes from the arena champ.
I am Bristow. I am a proud Perry Countian. I am also Duelmaster and Lord Protector.
Forgive me if I am excessively proud of it all. I am not perfect, being a 13-4-10-15-
17-14-11 Slasher, but my 16-5-2 record speaks for itself. Perhaps the fact that I do
great damage and learn at a near 2.50 skills per fight has something to do about it?
Or perhaps I am just dang good!
-- Bristow DMII
SPY REPORT
I was going on vacation, see? Surf, sun... But what do those bums say? "Hit
the road, Debby Tonte. LIN TIRIAN needs a spyreport." Oh, well. Too bad, CIRCLE OF
FIRE, but PERRY COUNTY was just too good to be stopped. MVP award for RIPI? KIWI
CONNECTION's proud of her after beating ANAMI TYL ROON and getting 22 points. Talk
about yer big time losers! ANAMI TYL ROON got smashed by RIPI, and lost 10 points!
Don't you think the Duelmaster is being unfair? I think BRISTOW should let BIG ONE
be Duelmaster for a while, without fighting about it. I hear the top team insists
all their warriors get nine hours sleep. They want photogenic fighters for PR
photos.
I gotta admit I haven't been in "deep con caves" with any spies. Really, I just
wing this stuff. PERRY COUNTY was LIN TIRIAN's most avoided team. Is there some
award for that? I don't know what CIRCLE OF FIRE's been doing. They certainly
haven't been accepting many fights from PERRY COUNTY, that's fer sher.
Man, all these warriors dying and killing each other! Don't you guys ever give
it a break? Hey you guys, don't you think your families would like to hear from you?
Write! (Or have someone write for you.)
I really didn't, you know, study when I was a kid. Who would've guessed I'd be
a famous Spyreporter? I know how much you like reading this stuff, but I really
should stop. Remember you guys, ease up sometimes! Chill out! Later, Debby Tonte
