The magical sword entrusted to the top-ranked warrior in the Darkholm arena. One of the more powerful artifacts in Alastari, very little about its origins and powers has been revealed; however, it seems to adjust itself to the perfect weight and balance for whoever wields it. In appearance it is a basket-hilted longsword of some dark, dull metal, engraved with mysterious runes along its whole length. It is capable of holding the life essence or soul of at least one person within itself, and has been used as a prison for several dangerous characters (including Dirk Cholera) by Sheila Greywand.

In the year 504, out of apparently nowhere, a second Runeblade appeared (it was actually from a parallel dimension). After it caused a great deal of trouble in Andorak and Darkholm, as well as helping to change the face of Zukal, the blade was eventually tamed, and given the spirit of the Lady Protector Epitaph. The second Runeblade was given into the keeping of the Andorak King's Sentinel.
