Dark Arena supplemental Outmaneuvered! The Free Blade Merchant’s guild’s plot of fixing the gladiatorial games in Rocanis is unraveling. General Pol is no longer of any use having achieved the highest honors a gladiator can obtain; an invite to the Isle of the Eye. However, it is not the time for celebration as the Merchant Guild is expecting repayment in gold, and if not, then in an even more precious commodity. * * * General Pol waited on Rocanis’ arena sands that evening after the day’s fights. The Free Blade Merchant Guild had requested his presence. He knew they would not be happy about being outwitted by Khel Rojida, the arena manager, and receiving an invite to the Isle of the Eye as a Lord Protector. This time he was concerned about a dagger in the back, so he brought his new favorite great sword as insurance. He was making plans to leave Rocanis and rejoin his men on the Rirorni plains to ensure his holdings remained intact. His second in command, Vrul’Kak, or roughly translated from the Rathiri dialect, Steal Weaver, would maintain the facade as a member of the Skull Squadron stable in the city. From the shadows in the stands, a female voice said, “General Pol, I am indeed disappointed. You have broken our agreement. You were to stay on the throne and ensure the considerable gold we advanced you was earned. That massive debt remains unpaid. In addition, Khel Rojida has effectively removed your earning capability in the arena by giving you the invite to become a Lord Protector.” “That was beyond my control. Even the mighty Free Blade Merchant Guild couldn’t have foreseen Khel giving a warlord of the Rirorni Empire an invite to become an Alastarian Lord Protector.” “As in the Rirorni War, it seems the Rocani have outsmarted you again,” a male voice said within the stands. Pol grinded his teeth and replied harshly, “Even the best soldier won’t win every battle.” “That seems to be the problem, we didn’t select the ‘best soldier’,” the male voice said. “On the contrary, I bested Swyathi of Grizzled Veterans in the arena and became the Duelmaster. She’s been proven vulnerable and the wages in the games are flowing again,” Pol said. “While you did remove Swytai—“ “You’re welcome,” Pol interrupted. The male voice continued, “Removing Swytai was a temporary measure, there is nothing preventing her for going for the title again.” “I heard she wasn’t even practicing this week. While the physical scar will heal, I’ve done something much more substantial. I’ve unnerved her. The mental is difficult to overcome,” Pol said. “Regardless, there still remains the vast unpaid debt. I see it difficult for that obligation to be repaid once you rejoin your men out on the Rirorni Plains,” the female voice said. “You’ll get your gold.” “That my good general is a fact. However, I do not see that happening by you once you are surrounded by your army,” the female voice replied. “Other measures are even now in motion to ensure your debt is settled.” “What are you implying?” Pol asked. “You shouldn’t spend gold, your body can’t repay,” the male voice said. “I don’t take threats lightly,” Pol said reaching for the hilt of his great sword strapped across his back. “Come now. You aren’t the only one armed with a large weapon tonight,” the male said as the Dark Arena doors marked ’Enter At Your Own Peril’ opened. Light from within cast a long shadow of a creature onto the sands. Heavy footsteps rose against stairs creaking in protest under an immense weight. An 8’3” gargantuan Shrewish Giant suited in thick plate armor wearing a full helm emerged onto the sands. He bore a halbard in one hand and wielded a great axe in his off hand. “General Pol, you are no longer of any use to us. However, before leaving Rocanis, you have one last fight in the arena. I know it’s a little early, but your turn sheet has been submitted to Khel Rojida. It indicated you selected to go to the Dark Arena for your last turn in Rocanis,” the female voice said. “I didn’t select to go to the Dark Arena,” Pol said hesitantly pulling out his great sword as he looked up the height of the Shewish Giant advancing towards him. “Perhaps, but this is your notification. Your dealings with the Free Blade Merchant Guild are at an end. All you need to do is get past our Shewish associate, Rokori Klee, and you are free to go,” the female voice said. “Mr. Klee, kill him and make sure he travels to the Isle of the Eye in a box,” the male voice said. “Good luck in your Dark Arena fight and good bye, General Pol,” the female voice finished.
