Have noticed this trend for a while. My hypothesis has been that while death subroutine rates have been halved in the tourney program, the "death by infirmary" rates have been left as is.

Remember to factor in Currency Exchange. $1 Canadian for Grimm currently equals about $0.82 US. That pretty much accounts for the difference being reported by Grimm and US based sources.
