The FTF is almost here!!! This will be a very interesting FTF as there is SO MUCH to do within walking distance of the hotel. We will be staying only 3 blocks south of the French Quarters, with the southern border being Canal St. (a relatively large 2-3 lane road each way that you can't miss). We're also 3-4 blocks from Harrah's casino which is just like any casino you've been to in Vegas or Atlantic City.

Here's some basic info on some of the places I've frequented more than others and reservations are recommended at most if not all ahead of time:

Restaruants:
Pelican Club (Exchange Alley off of Bienville) – great seafood and one of my favorite restaurants in NOLA
Irenes (Chartres & St. Phillip) – One of the best Italian restaurants in NOLA - small inside but excellent service and old school feel
GW Fins (Bienville & Bourbon) – we had a great meal there during Mardis Gras 2 years ago… eclectic modern menu
NOLAs (Chartres/St. Louis)– 1 of 2 Emeril restaurants in Nawlins, but this one is the Quarter… amazing food and service! His other restaurant (named Emeril's) is in the Warehouse district a few blocks south east of the hotel
Pat Obriens (St. Peter/Bourbon)– you haven’t truly been to Nawlins unless you’ve had a hurricane here. Wait on line at night for the room with the dueling pianos immediately on the right… get a few drinks and sing some songs!
Acme Oyster House (preferably) or Felix’s Oyster House across the street from it (Iberville/Carondelle)– Acme is legendary if you like Oysters. Get on line early when it opens or expect to wait on a line. This is the place I have my first lunch for every New Orleans visit.
Café Dumonds (Decatur across from Jackson Square) – You must get a begneit and some coffee here at some point…. Across the st. from Jackson Square
Arnauds/Antoines (St. Louis/Royal)– old old old school nawlins white glove service. Jacket and dress pants kind of place… both are renowned and in the quarter
Brennans (St. Louis/Royal) – Breakfast at Brennans is legendary. We had an absolutely amazing brunch here one day
Mother’s restaurant (Poydras/Tchoupitalis)– 2-3 blocks away from the hotel - outside of the quarter - a 50yr old diner which great down home breakfast comfort food. Get there early or there will be a line
Café Fleur de Lis (Bienville/Chartres)– Amazing tiny breakfast join on Chartres & Bienville… huge portions, great food
Ruby Slipper cafe (Magazine/Common)- around the corner from Mother's - an eclectic breakfast/lunch place a few blocks from the quarter

Crawfish, Gumbo, Bisque, PoBoys – get them somewhere in the quarter! You’ll be happy you did!

Bourbon St – the place to go when you want to get drunk, otherwise steer clear. The corner of St. Louis & Bourbon St. (about 7-8 blocks in from Canal St. on Bourbon) is one of the few places you can actually get to a balcony on bourbon without having a room at a hotel. Simply walk to the rear on the right side and go up the steps to the bar upstairs and you can walk out on the balcony to see Bourbon from up top. I highly recommend you do this once to experience it.

Souvenirs - Hit Royal St. (1 block east of Bourbon - runs parallel) and Decatur St. (two more blocks east) for these. These streets are lined with shops of all kinds and where one goes to get trinkets, keepsakes, etc.

French Market - Go up Decatur into the Quarter and there is an outdoor/covered open air market with all kinds of food stuff and things for sale. Definitely worth the walk... you'll pass by Café Du Monde's and Jackson Square on the way.

There is so much more information to share, so hit me up at the FTF if you have any questions or need suggestions about where to go, what to do, how to get from A to B, etc. It's an amazingly unique city with a ton of flair, great food, and jazz music in the streets.

I'm arriving late Wednesday night and will be taking advantage of all the city has to offer prior to the FTF kicking off. See you all soon!
