I don't always do this, but I had what I'd call a super fun tourney, so here is my write up.
I sent strats very late in the game. Ended up faxxing and cut about 20 to get down to 70. I had three busts going into the tourney, so I had hopes (that I fully expected to be unrealized - more about those later).
First off, my overall record out of 70 sent:
215-211 with 3 TV's, a dead TC, and a dead TV. Five stylemaster awards.
The number one highlight of the tourney...
Husband of Different Hats is a warrior who made my dead squad years ago by virtue of having 5 kills in basic. At the time, that was very unique to me, so definitely a sentimental warrior that would never make my dead squad today.
It started to be a joke as he started to die in dead tourneys year after year. In his first 5 dead tourneys, he died 5 times. I really thought after he hit 50FE, he'd start surviving, but he keeps on dying, year after year. He died again this tourney, making it 6 straight and 15 out of the 19 dead tourney's he has entered. SO MUCH FUN!!! Granted I'm not sure what it means to die when you're already dead, but definitely one of my favorite entries every year!!!
The lowest part of my tourney was the King of Primus developers. I've been running my future KoP team in tourneys for 3.5 years now, trying to max more warriors. Their records are almost always atrocious. This tourney was no exception, but the training was also atrocious this time out. I should have all 10 styles maxxed out before KoP 2028. I have 5 styles maxxed today, but one of those is a basher that I'd prefer to enter in the second bracket...
Bust #1
The first bust was a Parry Lunger in ADM with 180 skills (right at the line).
CLEANING TIME (54-3200) of BASH BROS BATHROOM (7057) [94-41-1,203,170FE], will fight Adm.
He is a parry-lunge with ST=24(13) CN=25( SZ=8 WT=11 WL=20(3) SP=9 DF=11.
Sandbagging wasn't working, so I decided it was time to bust. Obviously the bust isn't as exciting as many, so expectations were very low. I was really hoping for the runoffs and stylemaster.
One will train and two deftness trains pre tourney, wit turns 1-9, deftness turns 10+.
Training was good and the winning was even better. For a warrior that normally goes 2-3 to 3-3, I was very pleased to finish 10-3. I have some better PL's coming up the pipeline with better busts and am hopeful that one of them will reach the finish line in the future.
Bust #2
This warrior was a warrior that I had only bad choices to make that has been in a favorable classification with 140 skills as a Freshman Aimed Blow.
CLICHE (72-7533) of BB CHICK FLICK (1506) [35-14-1,163,56FE], will fight Freshmen.
He is a aimed blow with ST=14(3) CN=18(4) SZ=4 WT=8(1) WL=21 SP=6 DF=21.
Hopes here were very low, but it is a huge bust. I didn't want to spend years training physicals to ADM or fast forward to Eligilbes. With the classification, I decided to go for it. In classic managerial mistakes, this warrior somehow ended up with the wrong strategy (my fault, exactly what I sent in). I spent a lot of time trying to figure out the strategy and somehow the strategy I decided on wasn't saved in my sheet. With the wrong strategy, normal damage, low FE, using SC unsuited, the result was a poor 1-3 where all of the weaknesses showed up in the four fights I saw. This warrior is almost certainly retired. I have to laugh at myself as this is the second time I've messed up a bust with a double 21 AB. Both times in hindsight not making the mistakes wouldn't have mattered, but still not what you 'want' to do as a manager.
Bust #3
This was probably my 'best' hope this tourney, a 155 skill basher that has TV'd Freshman three times sandbagging. But inconsistency has been Repetitive's M/O, going 8-3 and 0-2 in the prior two tourneys. So which Repetitive would show up? The winner or the loser?
REPETITIVE (72-7684) of BASH BROS NEWS (1510) [84-81-1,186,214FE], will fight Adm.
He is a basher with ST=25(13) CN=7(4) SZ=10 WT=21 WL=20(3) SP=14 DF=7.
As is my pattern with basher busts, I train in mail ins optimistically (assume I'm going to hit trains). WL, WT, WT leading into the tourney, then training WT, WT, DF, DF, DF, DF, DF, DF, WT, SP->
Bashers need a lot of things to go right to TC, so I just assume if the TC is going to happen, the training went very, very right.
Things went well, but I'll always wonder 'what if' I'd gotten those 4th WT & DF trains?!? Ended the tourney 25-7-10-24-21-17-10 at 10-3. Definitely a success in my book. Sure I hoped for more, but this was a solid positive result.
The other 'big' highlight was a dead TV for my Turf War team. Nothing like having one of my open spots filled going into the next Turf War!!!
Because others will be interested in this one, I will also give the details of my dead TC. This warrior wasn't even on my dead list, but when reviewing my dead warriors, I decided to add it on virtue of total skills (119). Who knows? Maybe I'll luck out and get a stylemaster...
FENDER BENDER (45-5434) of BASH BROS CARS (562) [6-3-1,46,18FE], will fight Dead adepts.
He was a lunger with ST=12 CN=10 SZ=4 WT=21 WL=17 SP=13 DF=7.
Everything went right (that's how TC's of any type happen). 18 rounds later, I have a dead TC in adepts. I have to wonder, though, is a dead TC or a stylemaster prize better for a warrior you don't care about?!? I'll set up for a champs run, then run challengers immortal until he gets pulled to ADM. |
