norma arenas never went past 79 except for 82 , and basically the ones above 73 never really needed to be added it was some roleplaying brainstorm by someone at rsi and the population was already in decline when they were added , but at the time i think they were activley working on the adventuring modulke that never came to pass .
i cant remeber what 80 was used for but 81 is the rooies in put at the face

Can anyone tell me when they closed arenas, if there was any feedback from RSI, etc?

Here is what little my fuzzy memory recalls:
Sometime in early 2002 RSI announced its intention to close several of the low-population arenas. A group of managers (the Consortium being one of the most prominent) raised a great hue and cry against this action, with several threatening to quit if RSI did this. RSI stipulated that it would close those arena's that had a population less than X (5 or 6 I believe) on a certain date (shortly before the summer Face I think) would be closed. A few arenas were saved by this stipulation (due to recruitment drives among the players) but not all. Several of the protesting managers (including the Consortium) quit.
A few months passed and the Consortium came back. I don't know if any of the other managers who had quit over the issue also returned. If you go to the old yahoo group ( http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/duel/ ) and check the April/March time-frame for messages with "Arena Closures" in the subject, you should be able to get most of the details.
2003 was fairly uneventful as I recall. The next big controversy didn't happen until 2004 when we got both the name change from Duelmasters to the oh-so-sexy Duel2 and the infamous Jiles-Gate. A few more managers quit. Check the yahoo group for messages referencing those two events for the whole story.
A few months after that I went on hiatus for 2 years due to burnout and have no idea what happened in the interrum.
