The best friend and worst enemy of new/returning players are the forums. While there is no formal protocal for forum participation, here are some suggestions based on observations:
- Before posting a question, review the Dueltorial and other stickys in this section to see if it has already been addressed. In either instance, the answer usually ends in "go to terrablood."
- Threadjacking (see Dueltorial): It's safe to say that manager's who start a thread would like it to stay on topic so if you have a divergent idea, post a new topic.
- Personal attacks: When insults are targeted at real people and are not role-playing, it makes for a good read, but probably doesn't make either manager look good. Try to quash things directly via PMs.
- Role-playing: If being an ass is part of your RP persona, be sure to use the proper emoticons or disclaimers to ensure it isn't misinterpreted. There was once a thread that got hostile because a manager didn't know that jk was shorthand for 'just kidding.' Most managers get the jokes though.
- General posting: One of the first things new players like to do is post a lot to help learn about the game and to become a part of the community. Some vets find it refreshing when new people bring renewed passion to the game so there's nothing wrong with being social right out of the gate.
If you pay close attention to the forums, you will start to notice that there are a lot more readers than posters, many of which only comment on topics where they feel they can add value, but there is no right or wrong answer when it comes to frequency.
