Here's a change that could actually happen: change the print formatting on the fight like it used to be, to make "announcer" special comments more readable.

Example:

BROKE STROKER slashes with his BATTLE AXE!
HAPPY SLASHER takes a blow to the NECK!
____What a DEVASTATING attack!
HAPPY SLASHER reels with the fury of combat!
HAPPY SLASHER fights with DESPERATION!
BROKE STROKER bashes with the side of his BATTLE AXE!
HAPPY SLASHER unbelievably contorts his body and dodges the blow!
_____The crowd chants its praises!
HAPPY SLASHER ducks under his onrushing foe, seeking the counterstrike!

etc.

That little indent and capitalization makes it much more special, readable, and just plain cool. This could also be done with other special actions besides damage, as illustrated above. (I had to put "__" marks in there because the forum ignores spaces)

If memory serves, it used to be like this back in the day, and I'm not sure why they changed it.

Along the same topic, but not quite the same request....

I have always been a bit annoyed when pronouns started making a bigger appearance in the fight that lead to ambiguity. For example, this is actually taken from my last turn in 14.

Code:

The battle begins.

ARRNOLD makes a downward cut with his BROADSWORD!
FOIN avoids the blow.
He strikes using his LONGSWORD!
From the stands, a voice screams 'Come on ARRNOLD, you can do it!'

hmm. i don't really have a problem with the pronoun usage.

i do like obregon's suggestion of the indentations. either way, they could implement some reformating to make the text pop a bit more. it is the final product after all...

If I recall they have various levels of verbosity they can set the fights to print out.

Some are very overblown with a lot of pronouns and other descriptive phrases - including city of origin, races, height descriptors, etc.

When it first came out I found I couldn't read or enjoy my fights properly, so I had them turn it completely off for my account.

So my fights read just like they always did, but sometimes I read someone elses at a face or whatever and it's way hard to read.

They made this change soon after I started, so I'm more accustomed to it than the old style. I do find it funny though as I look through some of my pop's old fights and see the difference. He hated the change for the most part.

The tourneys seem to print out more old-style. Female warriors are referenced as "he." The pronoun thing is gone. Perhaps this is because the tourneys are run on a different server (IIRC).

Woah, that's awesome, I'll have to look into that. Thanks for the tip.

For you new/returning players, don't turn it off--try and live with it if you can. Many of the descriptors are based on your opponent's stats and can provide a more detailed scouting tool if you're willing to parse through the garbage. (At least in the arena)

Resurrecting an old post, but how is this indicative of an opponents stats? Can you give an example?

You'll get fight text that sometimes says something like "The frail warrior from XXX" or "diminuitive basher from YYY" "The huge gladiator..."

To complete my earlier post, in my humble (and lazy) opinion, the text is ok for entertainment purposes but not too valuable for stat sniffing. I suspect the text would be limited to physicals and we get a lot of information from weapon suitability already. I know someone's "frail" because they go down in one hit! Very Happy

I can see a scenario where it might be useful to see someone is particularly strong, weak, robust or frail or clumsy or deft but it seems a limited ROI even though we OCR and parse the text. Bottom line, enjoyment of the enhanced text is the driver for me and might be better litmus for whether you keep or disable it.
