Has anyone else read Brian Ruckley's trilogy The Godless World? I just finished book 1 and am into book 2 big time, tough to put down.
The world is entirely fictional but has a definite Scottish tilt to it with the names of characters and cities. His character names are a bit tongue twisting, but once you get over that, great epic fantasy! And, all three books are already out in paperback! Check'em out! |

Update, just finished book 3, Fall of Thanes, to end the series, very very good!
Can't believe I hadn't heard something about this trilogy before, even though they're new, last one I believe just out in mass market version recently. Check'em out if you love darker epic fantasy ala GRRM! |

I just finished reading the 1st book in this series. While I do think it is good, I still don't think it comes close to Game of Thrones series. I think somebody said it was as good if not better in another thread somewhere. You were right about the names though.....I am constantly getting the different clans confused because their names are so similar.
Any other suggestions for a good read after I finish with this series? I have discovered a few good books based on suggestions from these forums and wouldn't mind a few more suggestions. |

This is on my long list of series to read. Atm I'm working on the Memory, Sorrow and Thorn series, but I still have three out of four books to go.
My list was very short until recently I did some research and found a ton of series I hadn't read or heard of. So, I've noted Games of Thrones and the Godless World series, and I wait for book two of the King Killer Series to come out soon. |

Have to take a look at it. Just got into a new series, the Kingkiller Chronicles. I think the second book just came out. |

I did love In the Name of the Wind, the next King Killer comes out in March.
I put the first book of Godless World on hold, but it depends when I get it if I'll be able to read it (sometimes it takes months which would give me time to finish the huge book i just started). Otherwise, I may have to buy it. |

Did the second one come out now? Awfully tempting to pick that up hard copy, may be on the Christmas list! I just finished the first one, The Name of the Wind, a couple weeks ago, fantastic! Kvothe rules! |

The Seventh Sword trilogy by David Duncan is one of the all time classics in Fantasy. |

I've added it to my list, thanks.
I also, suggest the Inheritance cycle: Eragon, Eldest, and Brisingr, by Paolini, but don't watch the movie Eragon it was pathetic and could have ruined the writer, he is taking a while on the last one. I knew nothing about the book when I read it and thought it was awesome. |
