What if this concept was applied to the Primus tournament whereas success depended on the overall performance of a team as opposed to the record of a single warrior. It would be a way of altering the effects of current AB dominance on the Primus TC without actually altering the AB itself (which RSI has repeatedly stated is their preference).
Instead, success would require having a dominant AB contributing to the performance of a 5 warrior team represent of any unique style similar to this setup. It's obvious that this setup has enhanced the intrigue and interest and may encourage greater overal participation for arena play.
I love this concept and the contest has been fun, but I don't think it will translate to the Tourney game well. The biggest problem will be not all of us have enough warriors to fill out a team. I think this concept is best left in the arena and I for one am planning for KOP2. I hope to have 5 of my own warriors in Primus by that time so I can field my own complete team.

If this became the main tournament format, eventually there would be a dominant team, and in order to compete with them, you would need like 20 or 30 TC prizes, most people would just give up. (Most give up now because the cost of competivity is too steep) At least now the winning warriors still change a lot, even if they are all Fist-using AB's...

Fair and valid points... I guess my post was simply an indiciation of how much I enjoyed the tournament, and how much I'm looking forward to participating again.
For someone like myself (who runs anywhere from 5 to 9 Primus warriors on a given turn but will never have that "uber AB" like the ones running around winning multiple Primus TCs) this is the only real format that would encourage me to run more warriors of diverse styles to help better round out my team for the next competition.

Could you give a quick explanation of how fighting Gate Monsters works? Is it like a DA fight, i.e. a fight till death vs an NPC? Do you learn skills even if you loose? Do you match-up with monsters that are suitable to your experience or are all really good ones? How good do you have to be to beat one?

Congrats to the Manager who won the first TOGS AND is now KING OF PRIMAS.
Hey, Pot Luck Team, it was FUN. The records show we finished 9th, but we only lost one match and only one team went 4-0, so as far as we are concerned, we were SECOND. (Except we get to keep the 5 rollups, which we assume will be distributed one per warrior.)
The Consortium (quite proud of its 7-1 record - Expensive 4-0 and Mortician 3-1)

Awesome job, Consortium and Aragorn.
I agree, there is only one place I'd rather us finish in. But since we couldn't be first, we will settle for the Consolation Championship. Consortium, you have my proxy vote to pick whichever Consolation Prize you want.
Managerr, thanks for designing a fun contest and congrats on the victory.

That was great fun guys! Great job!!
Philanthropologist's 3-1 was pretty good, but that one loss was a very close match, in the first round and cost us from moving on past the first round....

AND, we would have had no problem beating Managerr's team. (sigh)

It is a DA fight to the death. No learns or FE gain if you lose.
As far as matchups, I am very fuzzy. I am pretty sure it was based on your class (top-11, Legion of the Wand, Defenders of the Tower, ...). So the Top 11 can face some very, very nasty monsters. But difficulty varied quite a bit. There are monsters that low Eligibles can beat.
I am not positive about the matchup system. And my low Eligible won during the turns leading up to the Gate Event, so things may have been adjusted during that period.
I believe I published the records of all the monsters (I know I compiled it once). I'll take a look through my records to see if I might still have it.
Yeah that's it exactly. Who you fought depended on your ranking. There are some fun reads, most of the Gate monsters use different weapons/armor and are built in ways you don't usually see in your opponents at the Primus level. (Might be fast and hit really hard but have a 3 CN, or have tons of Init and it's hard to get a riposte off of them, etc.)
I am ecstatic to win, I didn't think I would when I saw the other teams, but the brackets (and some of the warrior positionings) went my way. I can't believe my Slasher went 4-0 and pulled out a critical match both of the times I actually needed it! It's been a good quarter with a TC, and Battle Royale/KoP wins.
Too bad there wasn't a way to defend my crown in the regular arena somehow. I would love to try to go through all of the other teams--next time I guess.
Thanks to everyone for participating, especially those younger teams who had to live through the first couple of tough rounds.
Also, Webbed Toes and Sikamikaniko need to be added to the 4-0 list and Sebastian should be taken off. (Sorry for the snub, I only had a short turnaround because this ran late)

Congrat's Managerr on an excellent tourney and a well-deserved victory. It was great to be able to partake in an elite competition although being a micro-manager. Looking forward to more initiatives like this in the future. Maybe, there'll be a regional ADM competition come fall?

Great contest Managerr. Well run and very fun. I will definitely participate in this type of contest again in the future. It certainly seemed to breath some life into Primus and several old timers came out to play as a result. Well worth my 4 losses.

I found my article on the Gate Monster Records, compiled through turn 200, excepting the tourney. I have no idea if there were any modifications made to the monsters for the final few turns, but certainly the undefeated monsters took a bunch of losses during the closing event. Whether that is because modifications to the monsters were made or because more quality warriors were fighting I cannot determine.
The Gate Monster Report (Through Turn 200)
- The Gate Tournament Results are not included. My notes were not
good enough to figure out what I did the first time.
Score: LORD PROTECTORS: 509 GATE MONSTERS: 404
There have been no changes to the name/id database (visible) since turn 40.
Presumably, monster stat changes were made to identical ID numbers when the
name of the monster changed. There is no verification of this, but the
stats are given separately for every named monster.
Warrior Records (Warriors who have fought more than 10 fights)

Notes:
Sly slew an unknown Invisible on Turn 70. There are three
different Invisible Monsters and it is impossible to tell
which he slew.

Furious Impaler beat Phase Dragon on Turn 151 (13 min)
Vengeance beat Being of Lights on Turn 79 (6 min)
Teetotaler beat Being of Lights on Turn 200 (7 min)
Psycho Scientist beat Jaccaranda on Turn 49 (4 min)
Hangover beat Jaccaranda on Turn 62 (3 min)
(*) Was the Gorgorothor on turn 6 the same as the Gorgorothor today?

Good Post, Assur!
I'm looking forward to some Gate Brawls! It's been a while. Some old favorites are coming out of retirement for a turn to fight some beasts.
Watch out for the top end Gate monsters, they're insane. I really want to see some of the best ones fight against open hand aimers. That would be a blast.
