i have always wondered over the years, seeing i havent played that long, what warriors stand out as the best. i have a couple in my mind that are active now, but if possible, seeing there are millions of them running or not running around out there, what which ones would be in the top ten or twenty or so, of all time?

Great topic! But there are two ways to look at this question: How great were they in the context of their time or how great would they be against other all-time greats. I'll look at it the first way...

These are in no particular order:
Donatello
Vengeance
Bonnie
Spearman

Hmmm. After that it gets a bit harder.

Iron Princess
Grim Reaver
Wallbanger (nowhere near as talented as the others, but I believe he had a 50 fight winstreak in ADM)

Wow. This is getting tough. What is that, 7? Jeez, there's probably about 10 warriors that you could throw a blanket over and pick out of. I'll go with White Dove (multi Primus TCs), Dee Dee (Ditto), and Psycho Scientist(Ditto Ditto)

Sadly, I'd probably have picked Drat for 11th place. Typical me. Rolling Eyes

Dee Dee and Wallbanger, in particular, are definately a "veteran's committee" selection. They would not compete in the modern game.

I'd love to see other lists--I'm certain I'm leaving someone fundamental out

How about all-time best of each style?

Here's mine:

Basher - Pile Driver (Honorable mention to Butch)
Parry-Lunge - Donatello
Parry-Rip - Dee Dee
Parry-Strike - Cartman
Slasher - Legacy
Lunger - Vengeance (really tough call)
Aimed Blow - Bonnie (disqualified Spearman b/c of style switch)
Wall of Steel - Delbaeth
Total Parry - Lint (had to fit me in somehow)
Striker - The Dark One's size 3 guy whose name is escaping me now

Let me throw in a few more...

Village Idiot
Chaos Warrior (or Chaos Knight - can't remember which)
Yamaha Rat - not incredibly great but I think he was 26-0 at one point.
Jalon
Furious Impaler
Teetotaler
Marduk (I think this is who Don referred to below - Don mentioned Vengeance already)
Tarad

I think these warriors were all fairly dominant at one time or another...

Again, this isn't who is the best now (although Spearman may still be if he were active), but who was the best given their place historically.

1. Spearman
2. Donatello
3. Furious Impaler
4. Bonnie, Vengeance (tie)
6. Psycho Scientist
7. Dee Dee
8. Tagan
9. Dr. Who
10. Falstaff

Notes: If Bonnie TCs again, I'd feel comfortable moving her up to #3. I rewarded Vengeance a little because RSI added the "one TC per year" prize when he was at his peak. I punished Dee Dee (who has 6 Top End TCs) a bit for winning against inferior competition and winning when Primus was split. (Although Scrag was absolutely brilliant in keeping her back) My #11 would probably got to Whirling Fury, who while never winning a top end tourney yet, established a legacy of his own with his "children".

My best of each style:

LU: Vengeance (Spearman, Furious DQ'd)
AB: Bonnie (Spearman, Furious DQ'd)
BA: Pile Driver
SL: Legacy
ST: Opus (TUM's thinking of Marduk whose close)
PL: Donatello
TP: Engwar (Sorry, Lint, he's got a top end TC!)
PR: Dee Dee
WS: Whirling Fury
PS: Cartman

Marduk was the guy I was thinking of, thanks. I don't remember Engwar, but if he TCd at the top end, then he certainly deserves it. One could also throw E. Hemmingway into the conversation. He never TCd top end (I believe) but was considered the best TP for a long, long time.

Good lists, Dwayne.

This is fun.

My best of style list:

AB: Bonnie (Old Timer Necron-99 was awesome for a burnt guy)
BA: Pile Driver (Only BA Primus TC)
LU: Vengeance (MANY good ones to consider!)
PL: Donatello (The Uber Warrior of all time)
PS: Jake The Snake (Studly Old Time PS)
PR: Dee Dee (Just over Villiage Idiot & Madam Butterfly)
SL: Smelly Socks
ST: Marduk (Just over Opus - but I'm biased)
TP: E. Hemingway (Revolutionized OTPs)
WS: Delbaeth (Just over Teetotaler)

My 10 Best of all time:

1. Donatello (The first Dominant warrior)
2. Vengeance (Unseated Donnie - also the only warrior who had a whole new arena built to eliminate his edge)
3. Bonnie (The new Uber-Warrior)
4. Psycho Scientist (The tops for a while)
5. Tagan
6. Spearman & Dee Dee (Both stayed behind in Primus to dominate - which knocks them down a peg in my book)
7. Furious Impaler / Etc. Etc. (Loses a few points for changes of ownership/name/style)
8. Epitaph (Another old timer who was one of the most feared warriors in history - also 1st warrior to 100 and 200 wins)
9. Delbaeth
10. Gypsy Moth

These are all my own personal opinions. I haven't fought much against the new top warriors and have little way of judging them or comparing them. Obviously the newer prize enhanced warriors and ABs / Open Hand are gonna kick the butts of most of these guys. But you have to account for the eras they fought in, prolonged excellence at the top and other factors.

the Dark One

PS. Don - I might have put Drat up at #11 or close to it as well!

Marty's comment has me going a slightly different route on this:

If Yamaha Rat makes it on this list for his 26-0 streak (which got him inducted with ridiculously low skills), what about Sam Styx and some of the other break-out starts? If you're talking dominance, wouldn't you have to include Deputy Dan, who forced the sandbagger rule change? (Did I just include a Horrible warrior as an all-time great?)

At a tourney (Orlando, I think), there was a survey of Top 10 warriors and through stuffing the ballot box, Mrs. Butterwoth made it. Not top 10 BAs; top 10 overall.

Village Idiot made someone's list? Really? Was he ever dominant?

Notable also-rans and old old timers: Stormbringer (1st sponge lunger), Akira, The Couatl, Khorga Khan, e-Snee...

What makes Lint better than Nameless Took?
What makes Delbaeth better than Donatello? (I'm guessing Whirling is too small.)
I'd have to think Smelly is the most bonused SL before modifications, but better than Legacy?
TUM, isn't WT better than Drat?
How much of the best warrior requires "Knack"? On numbers and bonuses, Bullfrog would have to be Top 10.

I just threw on VI because he was always a "big name" or at least he was to me...

Dark One, now that we're all one big Primus again, maybe it's time to bring back the Primus Choice awards? Wasn't there a Hall of Fame thing too? No one new has been inducted in years!

I'd always heard VI's name thrown around, too, he's just always been there, seems like...some of those other old-timer names bring back the nostalgia, eh?

Who runs Smelly Socks now, and are his bonuses widely known? Doesn't Doc Steele run Legacy?

Yamaha Rat was not the only 26-0 baby, as Galena a slasher did the same wit no sandbagging. Doesn't seem like the best citeria. But, there are so many great ones out there ..........................

WT is less proven than Drat. The jury is still out. He's certainly better at a younger age, but there are mitigating circumstances.

Smelly is definately not better than Legacy.

Donatello isn't a waste. I picked Dalbaeth as my best waste of all time. The Whirlings are still unproven at the very top.

Lint generally has Nameless Took's number, which is why I picked him. You could debate it, though, certainly. Plus Lint finished 3rd in Primus twice, which I don't think the Took ever did.

You put out two good ones, though: Sam Styx and Akira. Sam can't top Dee Dee, though, who TCd Primus many times. Akira doesn't top the best lunger list, but he belongs in the conversation.

You guys are forgetting the greatest warrior of all time, and the only one to never lose a fight:

Ferd the Tower!

Come on, the guy even had his own Ferdlings and Ninja-Ferds (a few of which are still active).

Viva la Ferd!
