As a longtime fan of the Rangers, whose history of mediocrity even Cubs fans would envy, allow me say two words:
Cliff Lee.

The sad news (for Texas Rangers fans) is that even if Cliff Lee is instrumental in beating the Yankees this year, the Yankees still win in the end, because they will soon by purchasing a long-term lease on Lee's soul.

Yes, Cliff Lee will be a Yankee next year along with anyone else worth buying. I enjoy rooting against the Yankees but rooting for the Rangers still won't feel quite right. As a Royals fan, that's all I got. To root against the Yankees...sheesh...

Even one season is enough. One good season, with a chance to pound the Yankees. Texas fans want to see Cliff Lee and CJ Wilson mow down A-Rod. The Rangers have the intangibles this year, and enough talent. Lots of great stories on the team ... the bankruptcy, Josh Hamilton and Ron Washington's issues, Nolan Ryan-as-owner ...
If the Rangers get smacked by New York, I can live with it. But I'd be lying if I didn't say that the Yankees could use a good ass-kicking, and the Rangers have the guns to do it.

I am rooting for the Rangers in this one. I don't give a rats ass about the Yankees. They don't impress me with the way they win. Cano is the first player they have developed themselves for 15 years that is worth anything (not an MVP). I would like to see them out of the way so we can see Lee v Halladay in game 7 of the freaking World Series!

as a rays fan, i was disappointed with the defensive lapses in game 5 and thought we had a shot to win it even if cliff lee did pitch his ass off. and of course i am pulling for texas over the yankees all day long.
i agree with action: lee v. halladay in game 7 (even in game 1) would be stellar!

As a member of BoSox Nation, I will of course be pulling for the Rangers and anyone else that plays the Yankees.

I again reiterate my two-word mantra.
Cliff Lee.

Brevity is the soul of wit, but I am forced to add two more words:
Josh Hamilton.
When baseball has it right, when it is good, its magic is breathtaking.

I hope it is all over tonight so Cliff Lee can rest up for the WS.
I think Molina's HR was the straw that broke the camel's back last night.
Burnett did much better than I anticipated, but I think it was the energy of the crowd in those first innings that was carrying him. He wasn't throwing anything particularly nasty, but the Rangers batters also weren't lighting it up in those early innings.

As a Twins fan . . . .go Rangers!
But don't be counting on Halladay making the series. It might be Lee vs. Lincecum in game 7. That wouldn't be bad either.
And on a side note, Rangers stadium is probably my favorite ballpark that I have been to outside of the new Target Field. I haven't been to all of them, but of the 10 or so I have seen, it is very nice. At least it was on a beautiful 70 degree evening in July. Get lots of days like that, don't you?

A 70 degree evening in July in Arlington is about as common as a 60-degree Christmas in Fargo, I'd imagine. You had an uncommonly mild visit to North Texas, to say the least.

Here's what really bothers me about the Josh Hamilton situation.
The Rays invested millions in this guy, and stuck with him while he became addicted to every illegal substance on the planet.
Their reward? To watch him blossom in another city. An outfield of Crawford/Upton/Hamilton would have been a thing of beauty. A ball never would have hit the ground, and Longoria would have had the protection in the lineup that he's lacking.
When Hamilton becomes a free agent, he should come back to Tampa and take a discounted contract just to pay the organization back for everything it did for him.

Wasn't Hamilton a Rule 5 Draft pick by the Cubs? If that's the case, then the Rays passed on him as a viable player and have no one to blame but themselves. Granted I can see the frustration though.
Only other Rule 5 Draft pick I know that is as awesome is Johann Santana. A bit injury prone, but I'm sure the Astros are kicking themselves everytime they have to bat against him or see a Mets game.
