Skyrim's release had me thinking. What are people's all time favorite CRPG's?
Here is my list:
- Ultima (entire series, but esp. 4, 7, Underworld, and Savage Empire)
- Wasteland (Unique, well put together game)
- Zelda (entire series)
- Gothic (Need to play the last 2, but loved #1)
- World of Warcraft (until you hit max level and game design changes)
- Entomorph (Another unique sci-fi game I enjoyed immensely)
- Kingdom Hearts (one of a very few big license A+ games)
Lots of other games that I've enjoyed, many with more hours logged than some of the above games. But in terms of the place in my memory, those above are my favorites.

The CRPG acronym came about because Role Players hated the idea that the CRPG's were in any way being compared to traditional RPG's.
The differences between a computer moderated RPG and a human moderated RPG are very clear to those who've played both. There are CRPG's that allow you to choose your role, but they are mostly few and far between and the choice is usually one of being good or evil.

Ok I was thinking computer but then you listed Zelda and Kingdom Hearts, both of which are console (and I wouldn't classify either of them as an RPG, ditto with the later Ultima Games, but that's another debate...)
Anyway off the top of my head:
The Bard's Tale 2 & 3
Ultima 3, 4, 5
Phantasie 1 & 3
Wizardry 1, 2, 7 & 8
Pool of Radiance
Temple of Elemental Evil

Ultima 5
Might and Magic 2
Wasteland....installed on this computer
Bard's Tale 2
Kinda dates us i guess.

I too, played Bard's Tale all the way through on a Commodore 64... that was after playing through Wizardry on the same machine.
Since then, there have been soooo many. I was very much into Trade Wars for a while, and I've played practically every MMO under the sun (WOW sucks btw). I've been active in Everquest (the original) for over 10 years now and still play almost every night.

These two were my faves, and I still play Baldur's gate off and on.
But Might & Magic was so so special when it was introduced.

Damn you're still playing Everquest? I played hardcore from 99-05 in a raiding guild on Druzzil Ro... which server are you on and did they do any more server mergers?

Yep... If I remember correctly we were actually in the same guild at one time. Druzzil Ro merged into Xegony server a few years back, the 4th merger I've been part of while staying in the same place.
The reasons I stay with EQ: mainly for the friends and community. EQ caters to a much more mature client base than most of the MMO's out there. I think our guild member's average age is close to 40.
Another reason is that it's NOT an easy game, more recent MMOs have become very easy, and when it's not a challenge, it's not as much fun. Much like how basic DM is more challenging because you can die. An example: in Age of Conan, one of the toons I played was a Hunter, he's at level 35 and has NEVER died once to anything, and he's on a PVP server! I mean, c'mon....
The other reason is the character I play, a Bard... no one else has yet come out with a character in any game that is so diverse and capable as the EQ Bard. In the right hands that is, it's the hardest character to master, but awesome when it's played well.

I didn't game much unless you count Nintendo NES' Tecmo Bowl, but I did play and love Bard's Tale. It's the first game that kept me up ALL night.

I played Wasteland all the way through several times. It's one of my favorite games of all time and inspired my DM team names and some of the warriors on them.
I finished Ultima III once and really enjoyed it, though I never got into the other ones.
Pool of Radiance and Curse of the Azure Bonds were both fun and very time consuming.
