Great White dropping a new album on either May 18th or 22nd. To clarify a bit this is not Jack Russell's Great White. This is the rest of the guys with Terry Ilous singing.
Great White - Elation (album promo w/cuts from perhaps all the songs)
If you try listening to it and thinking of an unknown Metal/Hard Rock Blues band and then decidng what you think makes it easier. Sounds a little raw, as the style should in many cases, and yet well put together from what I heard. If I were at a bar and heard this band, granted recording studios sure help, I would have to say they were good. If I think of it as Great White it seems not quite right.
You likely may not know but Terry Ilous sang with a band called XYZ. They had a number of songs that played on the radio in the late 80s that were really good but they came along too soon before Nirvana and Pearl Jam changed the game.

So, I'm not the metal fan you guys are - but Ihave been a fan of harder rock. Classic Van Halen, for example, is classic. So, I'm curious what those who take their music much more seriously than I do think of the new Van Halen album. (And I do have a team named Van Duel with warriors like Ice Cream Man and Atomic Punk, so if nothing else there could be more names.)

In response to Street's last post, have to say I did not like the new Great White track very much. The XYZ singer does not sound like his old self, and let's face it, it ain't Great White without Jack Russell singing.
I hate it when bands, especially ones with recognizable, distinct frontmen, do this, try to carry on without that key member. Or vice versa (you reading this, Axl Rose??) and still use the band name. Van Halen may be one of the few big bands to ever pull it off successfully. And I will be picking up their new one finally, very soon. Having listened to the sample tracks on itunes, I like it about as much as I can considering it's Dave singing and no Michael Anthony...
Hardline was an awesome band/project of Neil Schon's, very polished album that came out after the hard rock bubble had already burst and all these bands were circling the drain (mine along with them!). I love the whole thing. The production is fantastic, Neil's guitar and Dean Castonovo's incendiary drumming, killer!

I haven't liked either VH tune that I've heard so I'm guessing I'd give it a thumbs down if I checked it out. When I first heard Tattoo I thought it was a joke. Then I realized this was the REAL first single. Take into account I prefer Van Hagar and had issues with albums like Women and Children First and Diver Down. I always found VH to be hit and miss unless it was the first album, 1984, or Van Hagar which were solid beginning to end ( all albums except the last Van Hagar album).
I give you this as my likely response (if you want to cut to the chase jump to the 1 minute mark)
To Stik's response my band was offered a Midwest mini-tour with a possible record contract (a very limited 50k for one album and an option for a 2nd) depending on how random bar crowds liked us, by MCA records. Our lead guitarist's cousin was Kyle Kyle of Bang Tango and he got our demo listened to. This was '91 and Grunge was on the way in and Metal was taking a hiatus (thankfully not dying) so 50k would've about covered recording and production costs; MCA's rep also stated we needed to show that crowds would react positively to our originals and our stage presence before they took a chance on us. Unfortunately it wasn't long until my "injury" came along but we had actually split before we went on the tour anyways. So I "Feel ya'" there brother!
On the GW album that's why I was thinking of it as a band I never heard rather than Great White, or even Terry Ilous who has a strong voice. If these were 5 mystery men I'd say good band. Would I buy it? If finances were stable I would. Not something I'd set $10-15 aside for like Chickenfoot!

How 'bout an 80s flashback for a moment while we're here!

Chief - Thanks for pointing that out, just went back and read the article. I cracked up at the line about Stereo Lab.
And Floyd, I dont speak with you anymore. Well, except for this post.. and the ones after this... but BESIDES these posts, and future ones, I wont speak to you. I'm an angry, bitter person. Really? I mention Bob Mould and you tell me you and your wife are going to see him THAT NIGHT in NY at a wine bar? Bob Mould and copious amounts of wine are two of my favorite things! Now you're going to see the tune-yards... I live in Sacramento, and no bands come through here...
Thanks again to everyone for all the links -

You only have yourself to blame .. No one forced you to post Tune Yards links!!
Living in NYC is awesome for a music lover .. you literally could see a super band every night if you had the time/money ..
I'm lucky my wife is also a music lover and our baby sitter is very forgiving.
Seems like we were digging the same sorts of music just on opposite sides of the country ,,, I lived on WDRE/WLIR 92.7 radio as a kid in 1983-1989 .. http://www.advancedspecialties.net/wlir.htm ( a list of the station's " shrieks of the weeks" )

I went to the new Revel resort in Atlantic City Saturday and saw the Black Keys again ( It's hard to believe but they keep getting better every time i see them)
So I decided to post a couple more links to their stuff ..
6/2 - Nickleback (cousin had an extra ticket she didn't want to go to waste)
6/19 - The Cult (3rd time)
8/18 - Iron Maiden (5th time)
supposed to see Van Halen in LA on 6/9 but plans fell through

Been a tad slower on this front so here's an entertaining guitarist!!!
You've probably heard the name Buckethead and wondered what he's about...... or not ..... the MOST unique (plays with nunchucks, does the robot while playing etc. on top of the Fried chicken bucket and white mask he wears) guitarist to ever grace this our "3rd Stone"! If your wondering the 2 red buttons on his guitar, where you'd expect a pickup selector, are called "Killswitches" that interupt the signal when pressed (Tom Morello of Rage Against The Machine uses it alot too).
Buckethead - Hardly Strictly Bluegrass full performance 1080P/60 [1/2]
If you skip through it a bit, it is 22m long and has a 2nd part, prime cool parts are 6 min; 9 min; 13 min; 18 min marks roughly.

A little off the beaten path for me, typically, but something alot more of the people here may enjoy. A fingerstyle guitarist named Andy McKee.
