In particular I'm talking about stat trains. As I understand it (and I think a more accurate interpretation would be as I misunderstand it) in regular arena you can have 4 stat trains in each attribute before you will 100% fail? Is this correct? OR is it that you get 4 stat trains in 4 stats or some division of 16 total stat trains with a max of 4 in any one stat? I have a warrior in an arena that can't seem to get a stat train but he's only trained in that stat once and has a high will so I'm just trying to determine the actual limit here to determine if I've wasted turns trying to raise a stat that will never raise because I've reached my over all limit in which case I should be training skills. (this guy was/is a burner hence why I'm not training skills)

Stat trains decrease by approximately 50%.

Fist train is approximately at Will * 5%.

Example: 17 Will
First Strength Train is at 5*17 = 85%
Second Strength Train is at 5*17/2 = 42.5%
Third Strength Train is at 5*17/2/2 = 21.25%
Fourth Strength Train is at 5*17/2/2/2 = 10.625%
...

There is a minimum chance for any train, so in theory you could train all the way to 21 on a stat.

...
In ADM, the first three trains are at the same chance as the first train in basic. The fourth train like the second, ...

***
So when you make a burner, you usually want to plan for 3 trains max on a single stat.

But is there a cap over all?

My example with made up number and stats:

Strength 4 trains

Con 2 trains

Wit 2 trains

Will 1 Train

SP 0 train

DF 1 train

But now can't seem to get a train on say the deftness so would a cap be 10 over all trains in this case (it could be any number I just say 10 because in this example I made up 10 trains total.)

There is no cap beyond 21 in an attribute in basic and 25 in an attribute in ADM/Primus.

You'd be at 50% for the second deftness train. On say a 17 will, you'd expect to get the train within 3 turns, but luck is fickle.

No cap.

I've had five trains on basic stats before. It takes a long time to get there unless you're incredibly lucky. But yes, there are no caps on number of trains, only on max value (21).

Owlsy, along with the fine advice above, we would add that there is a "luck factor" in the stat earning (with the basis being 5%xWL) and some warriors learn stats ever so quickly, and some are really, really unlucky trainers.

As a general rule, I don't do more than 2 trains to any given attribute in basic and I try to design my warriors to require 1 or 0.

Learning skills will usually provide you with more success in basic, I've found.

We, on the other hand, are completely unhesitant to train, train, train. We have many cases of triple three's (usually ST, CN, WL on TP's) and several cases of 4 of one stat learned in basic.

We find that very low witters simply don't learn enough skills so we bump a lot of physicals.

Bumping into something like 11DF, 21 WL or 11 WT surely does provide a lot of skills along with the physicals.

NOTE: We certainly have many warriors with no stat trains. (More untrained than trained.) But we train if we feel we need it or it will help.

To try and answer more accurately what I think you were getting at, No there is no "overall" cap. Each attribute is treated seperately. IOW, you could raise one stat 10 or even 22 times, and it will not affect the stat raise potential on a different stat whatsoever (unless we're talking about WL, which raises the %). You could have 50+ stat raises overall, but if say, DF, has never had any raises, then the first DF raise is still at {WL x 5 = % chance}.
