Thanks to Floyd and his work narrowing down possibilities, we have mostly nailed down our next Summer FTF: July 15-17 in New Orleans, at the Hilton New Orleans/St. Charles Ave. The hotel looks gorgeous and is on the streetcar line and only a couple of blocks from the French Quarter, so it's a GREAT location. But downtown is more expensive. They're offering rooms at $145/night, which is only a wee bit high, but parking is $40/day!!, plus it's a $35 cab ride from the airport to the hotel (they have no airport shuttle). The group rate applies three days before and after the FTF, so I hope we can stay for an extra day or two to explore.
What do you think? Are these costs a show-stopper, or shall I finalize the arrangements? Who's excited about FINALLY getting to New Orleans?
Also: Free wifi EVERYWHERE!
And there's some sort of 2-hour wine reception, too.

Just wanted to say that for those considering driving , I looked and there are several parking garages within walking distance from the hotel that offer cheaper rates.

The Wisconsin group will get together, have a few drinks, talk about it, have a few more drinks, argue about challenges, have a few drinks, forget what we were arguing about, have a few more drinks, and then get back to you regarding New Orleans.
The WWII museum is in New Orleans and def worth the visit!

There are probably options somewhere for parking even cheaper and taking public transit to the Quarter/hotel area. A 3-day pass for streetcars & buses is like $9.

The easiest way to get to the hotel is to simply cough up cab fare. Once you get to the hotel you're not even a 5 minute walk from the french quarter or the St. Charles trolley which can take you to the Audobon Zoo, Tulane and a good number of other things to sight see. Taxis are easy to get in town should you need to go off the trolley path. I'd recommend not renting a car and paying for parking if you can help it.

Sandra and I will be there 100%.
In addition I have a friend who said he and his wife wanted to go to New Orleans and will go - and he will roll up a DM team and participate in the tournament.
