| RACES
The intelligent humanoid races of Alastari are: humans, elves, dwarves, orcs, Shewish giants, and goblins. Some of these major species contain smaller tribal or racial divisions: for example, the goblins may be subdivided into the land and marine goblins (karragit). The elves consist of the Ardiventi wood elves, the Araoi or High Elves (almost extinct in Alastari) and the dark elves of Faerhso and Xochithlan. The Aruaki shapeshifters consider themselves a different race than the "true-humans" of the rest of Alastari. As most of these species can interbreed and produce fertile offspring to some extent, some scholars consider all of these groups to be merely subspecies of humanity, and the divisions between them to be far more social than biological.
Other races found in Alastari are catfolk, trolls, gargoyles, and northwights. These are found in VERY small numbers.
