RYLIAN, (the late) HIGH KING OF ANDORIA
Late ruler of the Andorian League. He ruled from 491 to 507. He was a fair and even-handed ruler. Rylian was a very forward-thinking man. He ended many of the old practices in the League such as slave trading, capitol punishment (for anything other than high treason), and conviction of criminals without trial. He also introduced the concept of a trail by jury. Though some of his innovations were not immediately accepted, most were eventually.
In his time, Rylian collected writings from all over Ghea and beyond. His library in the palace in Andor came to rival the Great Library in Iaye. He was determined to make the League great, but by peaceful means. Though he did not believe in war, he was willing to fight if necessary. Rylian had a decided prejudice against the gladiatorial arenas.
He was an even-tempered, gentle, honest, and honourable man. He was 5'11" with greying russet-brown, curly hair and brown eyes.
His first wife was an elven woman called Leini. She bore him a son, Mickael III. She died six years after, attempting to bear a second child. His second wife was a human woman, Tahrriena, who he divorced in 505 after she was convicted of treason. They had one son, Priam X. In 506, Rylian married once again, this time to the Princess Ieashia of the Karnhorn Empire to fulfill a treaty. She died mysteriously in 507 after bearing a son, Rylian X. Her death prompted a Karnhorn expatriate to assassinate Rylian.
