I'm doing a write up on LP's this turn for the SYP. The numbers will change significantly for the total # of graduates. My spreadsheet was ignoring an entire row of Lord Protectors, namely Le Pentarque's, who has the most graduates from 81 thus far.

Parry
OR
the ability to take damage. I've seen a lot of PRs in plate.
Looking over my records I see just one PR out of 36 fighters (all dead). This was Stratia -- died with a 2-4-0 record.
9-11-14-17-9-9-15
.
In retrospect I'd go with ST or PS, since attacking seems the best bet here. Instead, I went for parry / riposte. Not smart, huh?
I need to take this hobby more seriously if I ever expect to do much better in the arena. Out of 36 fighters I deemed worth running (more than once) I had 8 BA, 7 WoS, 5 SL, 4 LU & PS, only 3 ST and TP, and just 2 AB. No PL, which kinda surprises me. Used to be one of my favorite styles.
I doubt if the rollups were exclusively locked into their styles. I made choices -- and I need to examine that closely because I suspect I'm falling into bad habits. Thanks to all for their input. Helps me a lot, believe me.

A much needed 5-0 for the Diner this turn! It's about time for this team to get on a roll.
What to look for in a ripper? The most important thing in my opinion is PARRY. People tend to make rippers with terrible parry and wonder why they lose. You can't riposte if you're getting hit all the time. 10+ parry to start is my rule of thumb. Maybe 9 if he's got other factors. Minimum good damage, too.

Main thing is no bigger than size 10, bigger hurts defense.
Enough ST to get normal damage (Prefer Good) and CN for normal carry.
Minimum 32 combined WT and DF
Never Add to SP.
Thanks! I'm filing that away. We'll see what my replacement roll-up looks like once my Striker heads off to the DA. (I doubt he'll be back.)

4-1-0 for The Monsantis, but that includes 3-0-0 against Den. Not such a big deal in that case!
My struggles have come from the Ripper style. But, I've hardly tried it out. Plan Columbia the only one I've run more than a few FE is over 40 FE with 58 skills learned and in no area has she learned an abundance. I look at that as a big part of the problem. I really like the style and plan to master it.
Nice hunting!

I collect essays from older newsletters. I have some from over a decade ago. I have noticed that the 'early' efforts (1990's) have a lot of advice that is contradictory and is probably based (a) conjecture, or (b) on information that is either NOT true or NEVER was true.

4-1 for Those That Prey, including a win against a hapless striker...
Traded 1-1 against the Dragonbane guild, which was my bane for many, many fights. Nice to get one in the W column.
Oh, and tagged a L on a Waste who was getting too big for her recognition points that Schendle challenged. Too bad he couldn't get the kill.

No results in mail, but newsletter shows a 4-1 for the Longbeards.
PR is my favorite style to run, but they were my last to finish the round robin here in Shadowspire. Mainly because I had a PR die 1-2 fights from invite when I was about halfway through the Round Robin and I look for specific types of rollup to make a PR, so it can take some time to make one.

Of the 277 graduates (Fast Hack 'Em 9 included) from Shadowspire, here is the style breakdown:

SLASHER - 23
BASHER - 21
PLUNGER - 16

RIPPER - 12
Ah. Thank you, Master Darque! Yes, and currently I am running 1 ST, 1 TP, 1 LU, and 2 WoS. I need to look more critically at my designs/style choices. I note that the newsletter says that Strikers didn't do so well... surprising to me, as I thought that style was dominant in Basic (as a rule).
I wonder now if this breakdown is typical, and if so, is it because of the rollups we get or does manager preference skew these sort of things (style choices) dramatically... it seems like we have a lot of TPs and Aimers.
DeGotti, I agree with you wholeheartedly. I was wondering how it broke down here in Shadowspire, and now I know.

goes 3-2-0 again! And my striker loses again -- next time will be his 'last' loss, so don't bother challenging him.
Of this
Round-Robin graduation challenge
-- which style is the hardest to graduate from here? Or graduate, period? It seems everyone has at least one TP or PR or ST going strong. Perhaps the Parry-Strike? The three styles I've
never
graduated are
PS
,
PR
, and
AB
