As with all new endeavors, there can be hiccups. This was the live Spy Report that was supposed to run in the Turn 220 NL for Shadowspire. You will likely receive a corrected copy in the mail, separate from your turn. Otherwise, you can just read it here.
**************
Greetings to you, citizens of Shadowspire! Today, you witness history
as I take over spy reporting duties for the arena. Hold your applause
until I'm finished. Please. I'm blushing, but there is reporting
that must be done!
Crambus and the War Machine stable are happy as Trog was able to stave
off the efforts to unseat him. Trog was the most challenged warrior
this turn as well, which speaks volumes to the competitiveness for the
glory in Shadowspire. Either that or the other gladiators hate him!
He becomes only the second member of his guild to ascend to the
throne, but now holds his team's record for most times on the big
comfy seat. He will be off to the Isle after fighting next turn, so
there will be many contenders for the title of Duelmaster next cycle.
With four warriors in the Challenger Champions rankings, Vanek and his
Warmasters look to be in a good position to make a charge. Will
anyone be able to stop them? We do want to humbly ask the reigning
Duelmaster Trog to share some words of wisdom with us in a parting
address to the masses.
DeGotti must be putting something in his barrels of spirits because
people are running away from his Cult of Bacchus. Leading the charge
is Dragonbane Guild, as they avoided the Cult the most this turn.
There isn't any bad blood, at least publically, between the two
guilds, so why all the avoiding? Bad match ups or a case of wrong
place at the wrong time for the Guild? All the other spy reporters
were impressed with Guy De Chaulic's 32 point up challenge to Djeree
the Djerk. Me? Not so much. I work this beat regularly, so when one
considers their fighting styles, it was not that gutsy of a challenge.
If Guy had lost the fight, now that would be news worth reporting.
With all the talk of cowardice and down challenging these past few
turns, I wouldn't be much of a spy reporter if I didn't point out the
cycles most lopsided challenges. Den posted the turn's worst as Ryk
the Dragon (4-4-0, 31) challenged Hollowsoul (2-0-0, 10). No big
surprises in this one, Ryk the Dragon overpowered Hollowsoul. The
verbal sparring between these two guilds is well documented, so the
challenge isn't a shocking revelation. Alceste of Some Kinda Hate
(5-4-0, 19) went after War Machine's Duck of Death (0-4-0, 4). This
outcome was more hotly contested as it took Alceste four minutes to
defeat Duck of Death. The rivalries continue to grow and we love it!
Bitter enemies in the arena make a reporter's job easy. The stories
essentially write themselves!
I would love to be a fly on the wall in the Philanthropist's guild
house tonight! Aragorn sent four team members to fight by torchlight,
and three of them returned! Ligdish Bang is a veteran fighter with
over 50 arena fights. I am confident he was a bit surprised when he
received orders for the week. The surprise appears to have worn off
quickly and was transformed into unbridled rage as he made short work
of Shewish Giant. Further down the ranks, we find apprentice
gladiator Sam Sword who came face to face with Dark Champion. Ol' Sam
must have watched his teammate Ligdish and been inspired because he
soon stood over Dark Champion's corpse. Jex was not going to let an upstart like Sam Sword show him up, and he too put down Dark Champion. Congrats to you both for
surviving! Meet me at Otto's Diner on Saturday, lunch is on me.
It was not a particularly bloody turn outside of the Dark Arena. Mary
Queen of Scots was the only non-Dark Arena death. While not bloody,
it was a turn for revenge as four stables sought to defend their honor
against the fickle tides of fate. On his way to the Isle, Bear Naked
wanted to show Simo Haya that killing members of his team was frowned
upon. Did Commission magic play a part in the victory? A new
training regiment perhaps? Inebriation found themselves giving and
receiving in the feuds this week. Sailor Jeffry paid for his crime
against Wicked Martyrs, while Wicked All Redd dished out some
inebriated justice of his own. In one of the more lopsided battles of
the week, Caligula easily defeated Zathog of Some Kinda Hate. Vanek's
kill record speaks for itself. Will he continue after Zathog for
three more turns? We will be watching as this unfolds.
Thus ends our time together. I will see you next cycle. Same
Alastari time, same Shadowspire arena. Until then! --Phineas Rannulf
