So, anybody catch the first episode last week? I am still without HBO at the moment so I'm kind of jonesin' for some epic battles, backstabbing, debauchery and bloodshed. That, and the dragons! |

It was definately a setup episode. It introduced quite a few new players right off the bat. Wasn't the best but it was necessary to get the ball rolling and give people that haven't read the books some sort of starting point.

So I thought about buying the first season, and from what I am hearing it is a great show. Is it $50 bucks good though? |

I'd very stongly suggest spending the $50 on the books first, or at least the first book in the serie, and read it before you buy the show. It may be cheaper to just get HBO for a month or two and you can probably watch all of season 1 on on-demand still if you want. |

It is a great show. I'd say if any series is worth $50, this one certainly is. I would also recommend reading the books first, they're 1000 pages each and obviously go into more detail than the films did.
I already have episode 1 and 2 of the current season, there are "other ways" to get it. |

Definately worth it. I am of another opinion though. From people I have talked too they LOVED the show before they read the book. I think it is better to watch before you read. That way you aren't disappointed by anything that was or wasn't there. |

I pre-ordered the Blu-ray version through Amazon. I think it was $35 with free shipping. I watch the entire season over the course of a weekend and really enjoyed it. I thought they did as fine a job as can be expected for a television adaptation.
I'm wishing I had HBO now so I can continue watching the series. I'm very much looking forward to seeing Brienne of Tarth. |

"Yeah. It's mine".

She and Sugarbeet would probably make a fine pair. |
