Here's a link to a little-known band that we opened for in '93 in Sioux Falls, SD, Sircle of Silence. The drummer is Jay Schellen of Hurricane, he gave our drummer (who was already very accomplished) a lesson and the singer, David Reece, was very cool. Damn, can he scream...despite the glitches in the video and some timing issues, the song is very cool and heavy. Enjoy!

Reminds me of Dokken on steroids (I love Dokken btw) with the minor 5th chords- also known as "The Devil's Interval". That and the standard power chord with the root dropped are my "go to's" when I want a dissonant sound.

As an example, for any guitar players, of what I mean they look like this:

Minor 5th: ------- Dropped Root (really a 6th)
x -----------------x
x -----------------x
x -----------------x
x -----------------x
6 -----------------7
5 -----------------4

Since I made the reference, and it's Halloween soon, from Nightmare on Elm Street 3

Dokken- Dream Warriors

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BtR6IrvxeFs&feature=fvst

George Lynch tearing it up on his famous ESP guitar named Mr. Scary Who knew it took George's screaming guitars and Don's vocals to scare Freddie and vanquish him Laughing

Also their 11th album, Broken Bones, came out last month (no George Lynch, Jon Levin formerly of Warlock and Doro on guitar).

I for one appreciate you posting this here! Though I am a HUGE Priest fan (consider them my favorite Metal band if not favorite band of any genre) I had NEVER heard this song before! I must add this one to my collection...

You are quite welcome. Not sure why this was left off the album as it's a pretty good song, though I can't think of a song on the album that I could see it replacing.

They are preparing to record a new album, hoping to have it out in 2013 Rob Halford said. It will be strange with no KK in the band. I wonder if new guitarist Richie Faulkner will have much input in writing on the album.

I would think the other guys would do most of the writing...I did see them with Richie on their "farewell" tour when they were here in Phoenix. I was skeptical of him replacing K.K., but he did a great job! They started off the concert with "Rapid Fire" one of my faves...and certainly unexpected!

Reminds me not so much of Dokken (Don D's vocals are complete wuss compared to this guy's, much as I loved Dokken back in the day) as it does of early Zak Wylde-era Ozzy, the intro sounds very much like Miracle Man but then takes a different angle.

As for Dokken and George Lynch, check out Lynch Mob's just-released EP with original singer Oni Logan back. Don't know how they sobered him up to get him to sound this good again...

For DNoble: I have always wanted to see them live but never had the chance. Well I was supposed to see them with Iron Maiden (still won't forgive my Mom for this) but I was 13 or 14 and my Mother said NO WAY, Dad didn't care one way or another. I still had to pay my friend for the ticket, her orders, she even had OK'd it but the day before the show she told me I couldn't go. A month of exta chores to pay for it and someone else got to go in my place for free. Evil or Very Mad

Stik: That's kinda' what I meant by on steroids. The vocals no but the guitar and musical phrasing did (of course not as "Poppy" as Dokken; more overdrive). It was more just the "feel" of that song made me think of Dokken with the Distortion kicked up a notch.

George and Jeff Pilson reached out to Don to reunite the band but he's still a TOTAL dick I guess! Lynch Mob has become the place where old 80's musicians go now I guess Laughing . Marco Mendoza, Fred Coury, Robbie Crane, and James Lomenzo have all had stints in the band.

Here's another early 90s Hard Rock band that put out a new album.

Tyketto- Faithless
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IS7LD8WYcFA

Tyketto- She Was The One
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ha9dfwyx010

This was probably their only well known song,Danny Vaughn has a powerful voice... then came Grunge (Cringe)

Tyketto- Forever Young

Since getting my beater '97 Jeep Cherokee from my father it only has a tape player, and after 22 months with an attorney still no resolution to my work comp case so no money for a CD player, so I've had to break out my collection of 900+ tapes. Was listening to Operation Mindcrime the past 2 days, and to ease Stik's frustration with my comparison a bit, Dokken was not the best choice to compare Sircle to. I now would say it reminds me of a Dokken/Queensryche cross!

Do NOT tell me he can out-sing the GREAT Geoff Tate or I will have to come and fight you! Laughing Didn't realize they've put out 3 albums since Operation Mindcrime II. Tribe is the last one I have of theirs and was sorely disappointed by it (Q2K was marginal). Thought about getting Mindcrime II but was afraid it would spoil, and frustrate, the first one for me.

Take Cover (2007)
American Soldier (2009)
Dedicated to Chaos (2011)

Off the album American Soldier a duet with Geoff Tate and his daughter Emily: The song, entitled "Home Again," focuses on a father returning home to his family after having been gone an extended period. This theme reflects both the life of Tate as a touring musician and the life of one who serves in the military.

Oh and for any "Ryche" fans who are unaware here is Rising West/Queensryche with their new singer Todd La Torre (from Crimson Glory). Geoff Tate and the rest of the band had issues in Brazil, and prior, and there is a legal battle over the name going on right now. Not sure I buy this guy but he seems to do a fairly good job but is NOT Geoff Tate.... Sad to see another band split into two different incarnations.

Thanks for the posts, everyone.

Cool Tyketto stuff, Street. I was very aware of them, they were quite influential on one of my bands. Their guitarist, Brooke St. James, is from White Bear Lake, MN originally and he came and saw us play at the Iron Horse in Minneapolis in '94. They were definitely a Bon Jovi kind of spin-off band that broke too late and sounded just a little too much like everyone else at the time, despite some great songs. I had no idea that they'd gotten back together and put out a new one, though! Seasons was their first single I think, and the only one I really heard on the radio at all.

That Queensryche thing, that is just WTF....looks like another deluded band that thinks they can carry on without the lead singer that EVERYONE knows as the band, basically. Can't believe they could have problems like that after so long together, sad....don't care how good the new guy is, without Geoff Tate it ain't really Queensryche! I saw them twice on the Empire tour, awesome concerts. Livecrime rules!!!

The split seems to indicate they will NEVER get back together again(Geoff Tate assaulted Rockenfield and Wilton physically and spat on them). I had always heard he was a bit of a D-Bag in the 80s, now he just lost his mind altogether.

This is Tate's lineup:
Geoff Tate
Kelly Gray
Rudy Sarzo
Bobby Blotzer
Glen Drover
Randy Gane

But then again the Eagles and Triumph were never going to reunite either. Still waiting for the planned Triumph world tour that was promised for 2009, and they had many interested promoters, before the financial crash. I've seen Rik Emmett solo 9 times but never got to see the awesome Triumph live production!

I forgot about Seasons.... Forever Young got the most airplay in Detroit.

I know it's pop, but I'm really liking this:

Some Nights by Fun
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qQkBeOisNM0&feature=colike

Getting tired of listening to the same thing over and over again. No offense to ya, Street, but I can't listen to 104.7 WIOT out of Toledo anymore because it seemed like every other song they played was Ted Nugent. Well at least until Clear Channel started making their classic rock channels use the same play list at every station they own.

I like this song as well - i can barely listen to a Zepplin song any more because I have heard all of them like 5000 times.

Muse - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ek0SgwWmF9w&feature=plcp
'Madness' - did this one on SNL - think it is kind of catchy - the ipad bass is kind of cool as well (if you look for the NBC video you get a better look at it)
