All age review with no spoilers (not that it matters since we all know the books and story lines)
NOTE 1 - so many advertisements (we were 1/2 hour early) for new "games"
NOTE 2 - gosh, a movie-going experience is getting so expensive any more
Reviewers
Grandma - non LOTR RPG D&D interest - didn't really want to go, but did because grandkids did - "boring, but I didn't nap as much as I thought I would"
Grandpa - (The Consortium) opposite of grandma - "terrific - enjoyed the slow development - truly beautiful scenes - want to see movie 2 tomorrow"
Mom - middle school teacher with young adult literature expertise "it was good, a little slow and drug out"
Dad - lawyer, action movie and bathroom humor interests - "pretty good - starts slowish just like LOTR did"
Newlywed wife - school psychologist - has seen/read everything LOTR and Harry Potter and quite similar to her Dad (Grandpa) "Wasn't it terrific, Dad?"
Newlywed Husband - CPA - "did a good job with it, but three movies?"
Grandchild age 10 - boy nerd, trending to be too much like Grandpa - "Wow! Let's me , you (Grandpa) and Lily (newlywed wife) go see it again tomorrow! We like the good stuff!"
Grandchild age 7 - girl socializer - "it was kinda boring"
(Realize that BOTH grandkids do understand and can easily tell you about the characters and plots, etc from on-line info and inter communications)
As usual, in this family, Grandpa, Lily, and Max were the "true followers", and believers, and were ostrasized for it. (But, then, as the true intellectuals and smart nerds, they are the only ones that count.)

My wife, son and I loved it! I really did like the additions and subtractions they made to the story, made it less "hoky". It was well worth the wait.
