Each day I pull some memory out of the deep recesses of my mind and search you tube for a song, then click on the playlist and listen to that the rest of the day. There are even playlists for full albums now.
I recommend listening to the whole catalog in order:
The Beatles starting with Hard Days Night
Vivaldi's 4 seasons
Pink Floyd starting with Piper at the Gates of Dawn
Van Halen starting with Van Halen
Sade starting with Diamond Life
Hip Hop and Techno are to distracting at work. But I listen to everything else. Chuck Loeb, Chris Botti, Taylor Dayne, The Corrs, ELO, etc.

After watching that it reminded me how influential CBGB's was in late 70's rock and roll ... On any given evening back then the place was rocking to The Ramones , Talking Heads , Blondie , The Police , Richard Hell and Voidoids , and Television.
Even in the 80's it still had juice as Guns and Roses , Pearl Jam , and Nirvana would all play here before they hit it big.

If it hasn't become painfully clear I tend towards "guitar driven" music. After a bit over 27 years of playing some of these people piss me off . So on that note how about one of the few female shredders out there:

Been delving into some Euro stuff lately and found an ABSOLUTE GEM! I hope you'll take a few minutes to check it out! As always I give you a nice bonus as well!
This song is so incredibly powerful and moving I felt I had to share it! This woman can absolutley belt out a tune; though she is classically trained she backs off it a little in this song to rock a power ballad! She has an absolutley ANGELIC voice and the song is well orchestrated!!!
A different interpretation, classical/operatic, than Sarah Brightman (w/ Chris Thompson) but I tend to think her classical version is better than the more "Pop" voice of Brightman. Not knocking on ALW's wife because she is a magical singer but Tarja has more strength and power in her voice; which I like! Tarja NAILS that VERY tough final note in full voice (not a true expert but I think Sarah Brightman hits it in falsetto)! Not an easy task.
If you want to skip the Fugue and get to the song go to about 1:25 when the band kicks in.
Sorry but one more bonus I forgot, it is a pretty mellow song written for the 1999 Solar Eclipse (I believe it was 99). Cool video, especially for us DMers as the video is her playing a Valkyrie leading the dead from a battlefield:
If you like her voice check out her stuff in your spare time, solo and with Nightwish (she was kicked out in 2005 and replaced by Anette Olzon in 2007, you'll know if it's Anette because she has a pop/rock voice as opposed to the classical). If you don't have the time to search give me a hollar and I can point out some good stuff! The Finns and Dutch seem to be putting out some very good Hard Rock/Metal that we don't catch here in the US! If you like classical type Metal give me a hollar, here or PM, I'll be happy to share with you my finds! Some REALLY good stuff IMHO! If you think it's crap then I respect that too!
Thanks Floyd for gettin' this ball rollin' I've heard some stuff I would probably never have checked out and it expanded my musical horizons nicely (I am afterall a starving guitarist of 28+ years who still writes .... for himself and friends pleasure only)! Hope I've had some stuff people have enjoyed .... because I'm sure some of my stuff went WAY over people's heads .... taste wise!

Although these musicians couldn't be more different, I like them both.
I've always considered Skrillex a less talented, more emo version of Deadmau5, but this song and video are starting to change my opinion: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2cXDgFwE13g

I'm not a big fan of this band, but my wife LOVES them, and I guess there are much worse things to have to listen to on the radio. But they scored BIG points with me the other night with this appearance on Conan! Spinal Tap lives!!
