Sorry to be dour and such here in the forums.
My best childhood friend passed away this week, unfortunately by his own hand.
I'd known him since I was 7 years old, and he and his older brother are who routinely introduced our group of friends to about every game we played through our lives. D&D, Runequest, Boot Hill, Car Wars, Top Secret, Champions, Gamma World, Twilight 2000, Traveller, Starfleet Battles, Paranoia... and Duelmasters/D2.
I started with one warrior - Sir Slay - on a team of his on turn one of dm23, Ti, on his team 'The Round Table'. Soon after that I started my first team, 'Helpless Animals' on turn 16 of dm 16, Willaf. My best character from that team, Cuddly Koala, was originally his. We traded warriors to consolidate our teams. He played off and on until about 1995 and dabbled after that, but transferred all his teams to me about a decade ago and I still run a few of his warriors.
Our group of friends is really devastated. He was the best guy we knew, the one always trying to talk me down when I was feeling low. He'd go to the house of one of our friends when he was serving in Afghan war and do housework for our friend's wife. When someone was struggling to pay rent, he paid it for them. I'm going next week to CO for his memorial, but I sort of keep hoping I'm going to wake up and have it be a bad dream. It's easy for some to be angry in these instances, or feel a person was a coward for their action, but I don't feel that way. No one knows what is happening in the mind of someone who is hurting, and all I can do is hope he's not suffering anymore.
Thanks for letting me express myself here. The world lost a real 'good guy'.

i hope you can make his warriors champions.... sounds like he would like that! I too have a similar story.... my best friend of 20 years introduced me to this game back in the early 90's... he passed away so i tend to keep playing in his honor and thank him for any success i have!

Just lost one of my best friends this same way June 7th. My condolences because I know just how you feel. My friend was similarly one of the nicest people you'd ever meet!

Sorry to hear that, SL. It's been tough for sure, but our group of friends got together in CO where we grew up, had a great time, talked a lot about our friend, and decided we all felt like we had become too distant and needed to stay in better touch. So, despite the tragic cause, there were some results that feel positive. We just all miss him.
