I honestly don't know if Otto is correct or not... it most certainly sounds plausible. I do think that damage statements such as:
"It was a tremendous blow"
"It was a glancing blow"

...are indications of your damage rating in some form and are most definitely not crits of any kind.

The damage statements indicate one of the following:

1) Damage rating doesn't always kick in upon a successful hit. You made your damage roll for this particular hit, causing your damage rating to kick in.

OR

2) Damage ratings always kick in upon a succesful hit, however this particular roll you made was a very good one (or past a threshold)... hence the statement appears during the fight.

I think it may be easiest to deal with Little damage for purposes of this discussion, as it's -1d2... indicating your little damage causes either 1pt or 2pts of damage to be removed from the hit. I think it's safe to assume the statement "It was a glancing blow" indicates mitigation of some sort... whether it be from armor vs weapon or having a little damage rating.

If we were to assume for a moment that hypothesis #2 was correct, wouldn't that indicate that -2 was rolled as opposed to -1? If that's correct, then one could assume that the "damage statement" were to appear if your damage roll was in the upper 1/2 of the potential roll, as those with little damage don't always receive the statement "it was a glancing blow". Then again, it could also simply mean that you successfully made the roll to avoid the little damage modifier from kicking in on that particular hit......

Chicken... egg... chicken... egg....

I think the damage bonus is applied to every hit.

Statements like Tremendous blow,Spectators Cringe, etc means that when all is said and done the hit crossed a threshold/predetermined amount of damage was done by the blow.

Glancing blows and deflects off the armor means it went under a threshold amount and did almost no damage.

I think things like face whitens with the pain of the wound, hands trembling...;, loses composure... indicates a stun. Determined by the fact you see these before a warrior becomes desperate, sometimes it happens to bricks the first time they are hit even.

Is gravely injured, has sustained srious wounds, has been sorely wounded,is severly hurt indicates a WL check is being made; if he fails it he quits if he makes the roll the fight continues. These are told by the fact that after you see them fights can end.

This is anecdotal evidence only and I am interested if other top end managers have had the same observations.

There seems to be a pretty big jump in damage (both regular hits and extra damage) between Devastating and Superhuman, but little between Superhuman and Unearthly.

With Superhuman Damage, in Primus, it seems you can finish off a 25 CN warrior in 2-6 shots. With Devastating, It seems like it's a lot higher, maybe 4-9'ish? With Unearthly, it seems it's nearly the same, maybe 2-6 as well.

If there's enough maxxed warriors and managers out there willing to experiment, it seems like we should be able to get a pretty good idea of scalability/damage. HP/Damage Levels/Weapon/Armor are all things that can be constant--this shouldn't be hard to track at all.

Our thoughts ...
Anecdotal, as you say, Dwayne.
We would participate in a true experiment/data gathering
