in another thread - bubba posted "imho, deftness is overrated. probably the most of all the stats"

curious - how would you (general DM population) rank importance of stats - I thought about it for 2 minutes, and here are mine

WT - 1
ST - 2
WL - 3
DF - 4
SP - 5
CN -6

obviously speaking in generic, not warrior specific terms - also not paying any attention to basic (ie con may move up the list) vs ADM issues.

only one comment - when looking at new rollups - the first stats I look at are WT/WL - if both are decent (ie 10/11) , or if one is very high chances that I have a workable rollup.

While I agree that it can be style dependent, my non-style-dependent rating after the same two minutes of thought:

#1: Will
#2: Strength
#3: Wit
#4: Deftness
#5: Constitution
#6: Speed

I could easily change 4, 5, and 6 on a different day.

Really surprised at this one. Care to elaborate on the low rank of WT for WS?

i concur with this ranking for the most part. you can do well with a WS without much WT. but you sure can't do jack without a chunk of WL, ST and CN- hence the ranking i suspect.

i look at it like this: in which stat would i most like to see a 21? wit of course. would i rather have a 21-9 or a 9-21 wit-will? of course it's the 21-9. that guy can run through champs no problem. not so with a 9 wit. you can do so much with a 21 wit that it is by far and away the most important stat. for me anyhow. the rest goes like this:

1. Wit
2. Strength
3. Will
T4 Deftness
T4 Con
6. Speed

i love me some CN. almost more than DF. in fact it's 50/50. i'd rather have a 15 CN 11 Deftness than a 11 CN 15 DF i think. it's all style dependent though... these are just basic guidlines.

The last two are a tie for me. I want a 3 in one or the other depending on the style, but never both.

1st: WT
2nd: WL
3rd: ST
4th: DF
5th: CN
5th: SP

For me generally I hope for:

WT
WL
DF
ST+SZ = good dmg
CN/SP (one at 3 the other high)

For me, WL and ST are very close, however WL gets the nod at #2 since I do enjoy the ADM side of the game, and those who get the call with a 9 WL tend to get retired unless they are absolutely spectacular in basic, where as a 17-21 WL warrior in essence gets the opportunity at a second career in ADM if they're worth running.

1st: WT
2nd: WL
3rd: ST
4th: DF
4th: CN
6th: SP

I would also put DF/CN at a tie for 4th, because as was previously stated, there are times I'd rather have a 15CN 11DF warrior over the reverse.

As bubba stated it is style dependant.

WS is probably THE worst endurance burning style in the game, worse than LU, BA and SL IMHO.

Also comparative to WT, Will has way more to offer skill wise to a WS. 21 WT compared to a 21 WL has 0 Parry, a 21 Will offers 6 parry skills. It offers endurance, and the intangibles.

The thing that WT gives you is the ability to learn more skills. But I think for a WS Endurance and Parry are way more important.

Same with ST and CN. ST gives you 2 skills that WS needs Att and Parry plus the ability to carry heavy armor and adds to your endurance.

CN adds to endurance and gives you the ability to take damage.

The only thing initial WT stat gives you is Att skills and the ability to learn more skills going forward. And while Important to get as many skills as possible I think the other skills benefit a WS all through their career while eventually you will learn those skills anyway regardless of your WT.

I rambled but that was my point in putting the stuff where it was for WS.

I can't say which is the most important. I can say the first thing I look at is if it very physical or is it very smart? If it is physical is it high will or low will physical? If it is very smart is it fast, is it moderately physical, very physical and low will high wit and so forth. I pretty much agree with Tripwire's rankings by style. I think Bubba is right about wit but if they learn a concentration of the right things they can do well with low wits (my experiences with 13-15 wits and have heard the same about 11 wits on the forums). What I have learned in the last year is that carry and hit points are very, very important to a warrior and so is learn rate along with what they learn. Most of the time I have to choose between the first two while I can't do much about the last thing. I don't have a preference for one over the other. It just tells me what side of the spectrum the creation belongs unless you're lucky and get one that has it all.

Deftness is important to me but only in so much as I want it to be 11 but will take higher or as low as 7. I learned this stubbornly from my earlier practices not panning out while Manager's advice about deftness (posted not too long ago) has held true. Firm on 11 but it is negotiable.

I go by Khisanth's basic blue print. Though I would drop Strength behind both will and deftness.

1. wit
2. wit
3. dft to 11 or 21 or will to 15+ (though at times I would also consider dft to 15, such as for a PR)
4. will or dft depending on 3.
5. str
6. Con for defensive, spd for offensive
7. spd for defensive, con for offensive
8. size

Like was said earlier, alot of this is style dependent. But when I first get a roll-up, this is what I'm hoping to find.

So what we're doing here is giving an outline of the web-tree we use when determining style and stats? An interesting coincidence, I've been dwelling on my process lately. Sometimes I catch myself trying to force a set of numbers to do something it's probably not well-suited for.

WL -- Like most of you, I think this stat is very important to most styles; it also influences 'borderline' warriors in that a high WL allows me to bump stats (and gain quick skills).
WT -- This might slide down my scale of importance, once the other numbers come into focus.
DF -- If it starts less than seven, I'm not happy. My idiosyncrasy.
CN -- Is this going to be offensive, or defensive? If defensive, I can probably skimp on the WT. I probably won't add to it.
SZ -- If it's 13+ it's gotta be smart enough to be an offensive style, or I'll probably get rid of it. A large, smart, BA, ST, or SL is awesome. But a large TP?? Seen 'em around. Love to challenge them when I do.
ST -- Mostly 'cause I'm thinking about weapon choices.
SP -- I really don't care about this stat; I RARELY add anything to it, and if I did, it would be to bump an even # to an odd # IF I HAD THE POINT TO SPARE. This is absolutely the least important when it comes to ANY style. (I'm prepared for the inevitable arguments here, but c'mon... IMO Smile )

Building from what's there isn't where I would say I am weak. It's an 'old school' process I learned from managers who aren't even playing any more, but it works for me. Much of this revolves around priorities & choices and is going to be individualistic; however, most of us seem to agree that WL & WT are very important. These two KEY stats influence everything else. That, and of course our focus. If it's only going to run in an arena, who cares if the stats are bumped? If one wants to look to the tourney, and long, long term, then I believe that the priorities shift considerably. At least, I think that's something most of us agree on.

I'm weak when it comes to aligning what's available with the 'best' style. Granted, managers like Consortium or Tripwire or other veterans can make ice cream from shoe polish, but I have more narrow definitions re: what successful rollups look like. I've doubtless made more high WL strikers than I should... but I'd probably make another if I had a tempting rollup. And small, high DF high WL slashers? My favorite. But that's just me. Cool
