I know it's still early, but do we have a date set for this yet?
I'm toying with the idea of attending SF Giants fantasy camp, which is the last weekend of Jan, but it would only work if the F2F is the weekend before. I don't want to fly out there twice in 2 weeks. (of course, I suppose I could just stay there for 2 weeks, hmmmm) |

That means it should be the 14-15th, and that fantasy camp is the week after that. If I did it, I'd have to hang around there for 6 days. What would I do? I don't golf... so I may have to pass on that. |

The dates are set for the winter FTF: MLK weekend (Jan 13-15), same hotel (Embassy). I won't get the announcement done for a bit, but feel free to book if you want to (they do fill up quickly).
Buri, Arizona is gorgeous in the winter. If you have a car, you could take a day or couple days trip to Sedona and the Grand Canyon; the painted desert and petrified forest are also really pretty but it'll be colder up north. Or you could hang out in Phoenix/Tucson--we have the typical city stuff, a pretty good zoo and botanical garden, science museum, and some odder museums like a fire engine museum. If you're interested in Native American culture, the Heard museum is pretty amazing, and there are quite a few ruins/museums in and out of town with artifacts and dwellings and such. There's also architectural stuff, such as Talliesin (Frank Lloyd Wright) and Arcosanti up north. The hiking is also really nice that time of year. I'm not sure, but the big car show might be going on then? Or you could just bring a couple of good books and hang out by the pool. |

We did the Sedona/Grand Canyon combo after a winter FtF a while ago, and it was well worth it. Would have been better if we had actually hiked down into the Canyon, but someone was freaked out by snow on the trail at the start of the descent. Made up for it with some long hikes/climbs around Sedona.
On another trip, I've done Grand Canyon/Hoover Dam/Vegas, and that was a good combo also, but a little more driving. |

We had a great time last January at the Face - I'm bummed I won't be able to go this year, but a 10th wedding anniversary takes precedence.
Only one thing I can add to what Lee said - if you want to relax by the pool with a vodka tonic, you just need the voda and tonic - the lemon tree in the courtyard of the pool provides plenty of free lemons!

I know its a little early but I'm looking for someone to split a room with for the January FTF. Did it solo last year and it was a bit pricey. Will either be doing thurs-mon or fri-mon depending.. |

Looks like I am planning to attend. Probably will arrive very late Friday. Will fly after work.
Best ONT <> PHX fare I see now is 167.40 for evening flights. |

Wait, is that a personal price you're getting via Hilton Honors or something? The rate I was quoted for the block is $134 a night. I'm planning on staying until Tuesday, and the Monday night rate(not in the block) is a staggering $239 a night! |
