Hey guys,

I went to the internet today...just wondering, "Gee...I wonder if Duelmasters...um, er ah...Duel 2 still exists?"

I am a very old timer that have not played the game for 20+ years...and I must say, I was absolutely astounded that the game still exists...not to mention seeing that some of my very own old warriors are still in existence...and thriving to boot. I see that there are some of you still around that used to play with me. It's absolutely amazing. Are the same folks still running RSI that used to run it back in the 80s?

My question is: what is it that keeps you in the game? With the advent of awesome computer games such as World of Warcraft and the like, it seems that a game like this should have been long obsolete. I'm really curious: what keeps you coming back turn after turn, year after year?

That's easy -- it's still fun. You should come back and try it. See if you agree!

P.S. Who did you used to be?

We still enjoy it immensley.
We now enjoy the comradery greatly.
The semi-annual Face-To-Faces are highlights of our year.
Sandy and Lee are still there "making it happen".

We were here 20+ years ago - as Fandil The Wise, Kennelworth, Mino, Curator, Lenpro, and a few others.

Who are/were you? And how come you are not still playing?

I figured Sandy and Lee were likely still there; they seemed to have as much fun with it...if not more...than the players!

I think you probably hit the nail on the head with your response; what really keeps interest in the game is perhaps not the game itself...but the comradery...which is accentuated by having the semi-annual face-to-face tournaments. I agree: I remember looking forward to these tournaments with great anticipation, and totally understand the appeal.

I have requested a new "rollup"...and I further assume that perhaps RSI will send me "mini-overviews" of the warriors that I currently have in existence. If I do start playing again, however...it will probably be a brand new team...

And this time...just one... Very Happy

I'm going to keep my identity a "mystery" for awhile just for fun. I wonder how surprised RSI is going to be to get a new rollup request from Acct. # 456...

And I wonder if they'll still insist on charging me 5 bucks for it since I'm an "existing" player...

haha

The game is fun.
The game has nostalgia.
The game is like any great game, easy to learn, but very complex (or impossible) to master.
Compared to modern computer games, think Chess. Why does the grand old game still survive?

Still enjoying it after about 12 years back; from a layoff of about 12 years.

My account number is under 3000; to give a time reference not just a date of '85ish; turn 20 in arena 14 (Tobir) was my first ever.

Welcome back to the fold. I doubt they will charge you for your first one back. Hope you put the new team in either 21 or 32. If not, 81 is a throw back arena where there are no tourneys or prizes allowed, what you see is what you get.

Thanks for the invite; perhaps I will do just that.

Anybody else have any other suggestions?

I will definitely join a "regular speed" arena other than DM 81.

If you have a strong roleplaying need, an Andorian (no down-challenging, minimal desire to kill, highly - some say overly - sportsmanlike) bent, then try medium-sized DM11 (Kennelworth of Bulldogs will welcome you)

I wanna know who it is! Getting an old player back is always a great thing. And if you're seeing some of your old warriors still in existance, plus were are a number of FTFs, you were likely someone we all know!

For me, I still play because I still find it fun and still look forward to turns coming in my mailbox.

I think that's a large part of it for most of us; it gives us something to look forward to! I think the human mind always needs that. Without something on the horizon, life gets boring, and it's easy to fall into a rut.

+1 for Sunset, arena 21, it's "the" place to be these days

I left the game in 95 and returned in mid 2009 for the exact same reasons you're currently posting here. I never in a million years expected the game to still be in existence... especially with the MMOs that we have (I played Everquest for 5 years when it first came out).

I returned to the game for the love of the game. It was always challenging, intriguing, fun, frustrating and rewarding. It's the only reason I've ever enjoyed going to the mailbox on a regular basis... and while the comradery was fun back in the day, I find it even more rewarding in today's age as real-time communications between managers (friends) is available as opposed to diplo's and 2-4 week turn arounds. Information is readily available online at www.terrablood.com and within these forums, and managers are generally infinitely more helpful and open with information as compared to 20 years ago.

Looking forward to seeing "who you really are".... back in the day I ran regularly in 3/41/44/50/52/59/71.

Welcome back,
-Marma Duke-

An account in the mid 400s? Nice. Almost as low as mine . . . Very Happy Rolling Eyes

As for a great arena, check out Sunset. Great numbers, great managers, great action. My home.
