Hey guys I wanted to start a thread for the summer tourney. There are several nice D2ers that live in the area that have graciously offered to show us around. I for one have never been in the area but have always wanted to. This should be a fun one. I am thinking of coming in late Wednesday and having Thursday and Friday to explore. There are a ton of things to see in the area. There are more things i'd like to see than time but i'll be happy doing whatever. I know on chatz there were others interested. I can start a list of attendees and things to see here.

Somethings that have been mentioned are:

Time Square
The Exchange
Natural History Museum
Marmaduke's BBQ
NY Style Pizza / Dogs
Sushi
Arms and Armor
Manhatten
I'm sure I have forgotten some..

Let us know what you think..

Wish I could go, I've always wanted to see NYC. Marvel Comics would have to be on my list of stops.

As people respond to this thread we can start to put a list of people together for Weds-Friday excursions ...

I will be more than happy to help as a guide.

Also , I work on the New York Stock Exchange , so if anyone wants to see that post here so I can make a formal request with the exchange to bring people on.

I'd be happy to show people to a few of the sites, particularly the Museum of Natural History, the Arms & Armor exhibit at the Met, and the WTC Memorial, along with some NY style pizza along the way.

I'll probably be staying at home and commuting to the tournament site, but should be able to avoid working on Thursday and Friday and head out to the hotel in the morning to meet people and lead them into the city.

I'm free to show people around whenever. I could also lend a hand in helping them find the stock exchange where Floyd will be working. :)

I would suggest touring the stock exchange and maybe visiting the WTC memorial on the same day (if people are interested in that), since they are in the same part of town. And maybe the two museums on a different day, as they are up in the same general area, although separated by Central Park.

My part requires zero planning or advanced notice, though. The museums of NY will not turn anyone away, nor will the pizza joints.

If I do make it out there I'd like to see both of these. Statue of Liberty as well The museums are always good as well.

Do plan to make it to the FTF Fri.
Will skip "excursions" this round.
Hoping to bring my wife to the area for a couple of days in the early fall.
Will seek advice of the local mentor group then.

GOOD LUCK and FUN to all.

I'm arriving late Thusrday, so Friday I'm available for activities. Primarily, I'm thinking lunch at Katz' deli. Who's in?

By the way, any New Yorkers know the best way to get from Newark to Manhattan?

From the hotel ..

Take shuttle to airport ... take Path train from airport to NYC.

Takes about 45 minutes all in.

According to PATH they don't stop at the airport. Have to get to Newark Penn Station.

We're going to get in around noonish on Friday. After we grab some rollups it will be time to head into NYC for some touristy goodness. Want to hit the Met and then... FOOD!

The hotel is filling up. Please book your rooms NOW if you want to be able to get them!

If you try to get the group rate (REA) and it tells you no rooms are available, please book your room at the best rate offered and then email me your confirmation code. I should be able to change your room rate to the group rate if we do it ahead of time.

If you wait, though, there may be no availability at all.

See you soon!

NYC activity update:

It looks like I have a class on Thursday so I may not be able to show people around on that day.

Floyd needs to know if anyone plans to tour the NYSE on Friday, as he needs to submit a list to the exchange soon. If you want him to give you a tour, you need to let him know.

Duel2 update:

The tournament announcement has gone out and post-freeze minis are available (in case anyone hasn't gotten them yet).

Prize is three potions of max skill bonus, just like six months ago in Tempe.

The only surprise in the announcement is a change in the Primus Stylemaster awards, which go to the best record of each style in the Primus class (not including the TC or anyone of his style). Traditionally the reward has been a +1 bonus potion that can be used on a member of the winner's style in the Primus arena. This time the prize is 1 ZAPP potion, which offers a roll of the dice at changing damage, a particular skill bonus, or a particular favorite.

Looking forward to competing against everyone in Newark!
