                             Notes from the arena champ.

     Har de har!  Yup; it's me! Duelmaster of all Aruak City.  Duelmaster of Heart And 
Soul and all that crap.  Just plain awesome Duelmaster, Seeing Red.  Inevitable!  
Inevitable, indeed.
     Whoop de doo.  I killed the former weakling lizard, Eekz Whatever.  He was a pud.  
Wham bam, thank you, ma'am, and off went his nose to go with that missing ear.  Then 
the wallop and he bled out on me.  Pansy!  That was Duelmaster?  Really!?
     Now a real Duelmaster sits on the throne and enjoys the perks, including that big 
bonus Purple People Eater gave me.  Gotta love it!
     Life is sweet!
     Come and get me, if you have the guts.  I like to win; win a lot; and am not 
afraid of killing.  I kinda like it.  I am a Colorific, not a namby pamby Andorian or 
aardvark or bulldog or animal or one of those wimps.  AND, I am Duelmaster.

                                      SPY REPORT

     Good day, in ARUAK CITY a quiet thief gets rich, but a quiet spymaster gets 
poor.  So bring me ale and harken to my tidbits of news.  It seems the training can 
make the difference, as ANIMAL FARM is pushed out of top team by BULLDOGS, who came 
from 2nd with a 2-2-1 this turn.  And let's see, BLACK HEART fought M. CHARDINEE and 
gained 17 points and contributed to COLORIFIC's 2-3-0.  COTTON CRAWDAD has lost to 
KHALHUMS DWARF, falling 33 points, while helping make ANIMAL FARM a 3-2-0 turn.  Our 
last turn's Duelmaster has lost, folks, lost to KHALHUMS DWARF, and SEEING RED has 
made the way for a new Duelmaster!  With SEEING RED clearing the throne, ANIMAL FARM 
of BRANDYWINE BOAR takes a proud seat as ARUAK CITY's new Duelmaster, by virtue of 
recognition points.  Tell me, is nothing sacred?  I have heard from unimpeachable 
sources that The Bulldog Inn uses trolls in their stew.  Talk about gristle!   
     I tell you, a green quarterstaff lasts longer than a seasoned sapling.  A basher 
friend of mine assures me this is true.  THE MYRMIDONS has cause to stand tall, as 
they were ARUAK CITY's most avoided team.  A smart manager knows this is a team to 
beat.  And avoiding THE MYRMIDONS more than any other team we find ANIMAL FARM.  
ARUAK CITY, are we going to accept, or respect this sort of thing?  Well, sports 
fans, take notice that SEPTIR from THE MYRMIDONS was ARUAK CITY's most challenged 
warrior this turn.  In a fit of brilliance or of stupidity (hard to say sometimes), 
SEPIA SQUID challenged JAKA today, facing a 28 difference in recognition.  And though 
SEPIA SQUID lost to JAKA, the valiant attempt earned her 1 worth of recognition.  
Foolhardiness can sometimes pay.  HAZEL HIPPO from ANIMAL FARM took a risk this turn 
by bravely challenging up 29 points in a challenge against RED SOPHIA.  And crowds 
were on their feet when HAZEL HIPPO claimed a victory from RED SOPHIA, and now has 
101 points for hers efforts.   
     The Dark Arena is for those who cannot win, not who cannot lose with grace.  
Dignity in life or death is the warrior's creed.  COLORIFIC made what looks to be a 
tough decision this turn, as they sent GOLDEN TONGUE, with a record of 7-7-0, to 
GOLDEN TONGUE death.  Farewell, his.  THE MYRMIDONS has lost ACHILLES to the arena in 
the sky, but they don't seem to be worried.  What do you expect from 5-6-1?  
Seriously now, is it really honorable for PUPPY EYES from BULLDOGS to kill ACHILLES 
and give THE MYRMIDONS the chance to bloodfeud?  Mmmm, could be.  Will AARDVARK & CO. 
get away with JAKA having killed PUG of BULLDOGS?  One more turn, and the bloodfeud's 
over, at least officially.  Is it really true that ARUAK CITY has more dishwashers 
per capita that fighters?  Just thought I'd ask...   
     Remember, blood on the purple robe does not change it from a purple robe.  Dare 
to fight bravely.  Well, I'm burning daylight here in ARUAK CITY and I've a long road

In the interest of preserving our natural resources and preventing managerial writer's 
cramp, the census form has been eliminated, effective immediately.  Managers may 
register their warriors' races and/or favorite sayings by simply writing them on a 
separate piece of paper and submitting them to the Commission.  Each warrior may have 
up to 15 favorite sayings.  Each saying must be categorized Jeer, Gloat, Boredom, Ouch, 
Victory and may be up to 70 characters long.  For any questions, please contact the 
Gladiatorial Commission. 

                        TEAM AND CHARACTER MAINTENANCE SERVICE

     As a service to all managers, we offer team and character maintenance.  This 
option allows you to make sure your team or selected warriors will never miss a turn!

     Team Maintenance:  This will cause all warriors on that team to fight every 
     turn; if it's an AD arena, any new warriors who arrive on that team will 
     fight the turn they arrive.  In A.D. or in transfer arenas where you have 
     multiple teams, each team will need to separately be on Team Maintenance.  
     (The only exception is new warriors; they will not fight until they have had 
     their initial strategy input.)  

     Character Maintenance:  This will cause only that warrior to fight every 
     turn.  If the character graduates or changes arenas, he/she/it will stay on 
     Character Maintenance.

     In either case, you may submit strategy sheets for your warriors each turn, if 
you wish.  The Team/Character Maintenance will make sure your warriors fight each 
turn, and they will always use their most recently entered strategy.
     Remember that challenges, avoids, and challenge/if challenged strategies will not 
carry through from turn to turn.  These sections are only used on the turn they are 
entered.  In order to continually challenge or avoid you will need to submit a 
strategy sheet each time. 
     One other thing to remember about maintenance:  Maintenance is not something 
that you write on your turnsheet (like in demo tourneys).  In order to add or remove 
maintenance for a team or warrior, you must send a note to Customer Service.  If you 
just write things like this on your strategy sheet, they may or may not get done.  
Likewise, don't write it on your personal ads.  Please, please, please put it on a 
separate piece of paper with "Customer Service" written on the top.  If you don't, 
well, you can imagine.

                        FIRST INAUGURAL ARVAT CONTEST SUPREME

Who can join?  Anyone with a team in Arvat as of 2/1/2018.

When does it start?  First turn due after 2/1/2018.

How long does it run? 13 turns.

How do I join?  Announce your manager name and team name in the Arvat newsletter prior 
to 2/1/2017 and state that you are entering the contest.  Prior to the contest 
actually starting you need to have 2 rollup certs sent to the Dark One care of RSI.

How do I win the contest? The team which has accrued the most points as of the end of 
the 13th turn is the winner.  The team which has the 2nd most points is declared the 
runner up.  And the team which has the 3rd most points is declared honorable 
contender.  Everyone else is a loser and should be ridiculed.

How do I score points?

1)  Every challenge you win vs. another team in the contest = 10 points, as long as 
    that challenge is to a warrior equal to or above yours in the rankings.  Except 
    for the Duelmaster who can challenge anyone he wants.

2)  You also earn bonus points for every challenge won.  For every point of 
    recognition your target is ranked above you, you earn one bonus point.  This is 
    for challenges only.

3)  If you are challenged by a warrior below you and defeat him, you will gain 5 
    points.

4)  Also every random matchup against a contest team that you win will earn you 5 
    points -- up or down.

5)  You CAN downchallenge, however you get no points for doing so, and if you are 
    beaten, your opponent will earn 10 points and the right to ridicule you in the 
    newsletter.

6)  Bloodfeud challenges count just like regular challenges during the contest.

7)  In addition there are the following bonus points that are awarded each turn:

    A)  Duelmaster earns 10 points

    B)  Graduating a warrior earns 10 points

    C)  Recognition Leader (Chartered or Unchartered) earns 5 points (if the 
        Duelmaster is the recognition leader as well, then only the DM points apply)

    D)  Popularity Leader earns 5 points

    E)  Turn's most popular earns 5 points

    F)  Top team on the move earns 5 points

    G)  Current Top team earns 10 points

    H)  Any warrior that earns a Tournament Champion in either the April Mail In or 
        July FTF tournament earns 20 points

    I)  Any warrior that earns a Tournament Victor in either of those tournaments 
        earns 10 points

    J)  Note that Top Chartered and Unchartered team awards do NOT earn points

What are the rules regarding other teams in the arena?  If you challenge any warriors 
not participating in the contest you LOSE 20 points, unless the challenged warrior is 
the Duelmaster.  If any manager has a 2nd (or 3rd) team in the arena they may NOT 
challenge any warrior of any team participating in the contest or they are 
DISQUALIFIED.

What do I win if I win this contest? 

1)  The winner wins all of the rollup certificates given as entry fee for the contest.  
    In addition, the winner gets to pick 3 of the prizes below.

2)  The runner up gets to pick 2 of the prizes below.

3)  The honorable contender gets to pick one of the prizes below.

In addition, all competitors in the contest who run all 13 turns and at least 62 total 
fights will earn 1 potion of +1 bonus, which must be used on a warrior who 
participated at least 1 fight in the contest.  

Also, the team that scores the most points on any one turn of the contest (other than 
the winner, runner up or honorable contender) can pick one prize that was NOT selected 
by those three.

Prizes:

1)  Limited stat switch (You can swap any 2 stats you want on an Arvat replacement 
    rollup that you received within the next 6 month)

2)  Extra replacements (Next time you get a replacement (or whenever you want within 6 
    months) in Arvat you can ask RSI for 5 additional replacements and select the best 
    one for your team)

3)  Limited damage bump (You can pick one warrior on your Arvat team to move up one 
    damage class -- as long as he remains in-bounds for his ST/SZ stats)

4)  Favorite weapon knowledge (You learn the favorite weapon of one of your Arvat 
    warriors -- must be on the team during the contest)

5)  Favorite rhythm knowledge (You learn the favorite offensive effort and activity 
    level of one of your Arvat warriors, who most have been on your team during the 
    contest)

6)  Shrinking potion (You get to take 3 points of size away from an Arvat replacement 
    during the next 6 months and add the 3 points to another stat -- both SZ and the 
    other stat must remain in bounds)

7)  Extra skills (Any one of your warriors in Arvat learns 3 extra skills of your 
    choice (no more than 2 can be in the same area and must be in bounds)

8)  Extra train (Any one of your Arvat warriors gets an extra stat train in the area 
    of your choice -- and must be in bounds)

9)  The Dark One's Massive Rollup prize (You get 50 team sheets, at random, from the 
    Dark One's massive pile of teams.  Most will be mediocre at best, but there are 
    plenty of decent to good warrior prospects in there!)

All prizes must be applied within 6 months from the end of the tournament, must be on 
Arvat warriors on the team that participated in the contest and must be in bounds.
