In the mountains west of Fratsfa:
Lightning came down in a river of golden fire, hot and clean, and violet light
of the Folstrom's Chaos Gate turned black under the onslaught. But it didn't
shatter. Well, Fandil had hoped for the Gate to be destroyed, seared shut, but he
hadn't truly expected it to be so easy. Necessary, beyond necessary--the Folstrom
could not be allowed to return, but not easy. He squinted at the pillar of darkness
and contemplated his next move. To wait for the enemy to move and then counter, or
to attack? If it was just this one magician, he would wait, defend, allow his
opponent to tire... but if the Folstrom were involved, no, *because* the Folstrom
were involved, one look at that Chaos Gate was proof, he was not sure he dared play a
waiting game. On the other side of that Gate could be reinforcements beyond
counting, and he had only young Elosjon, competent but green still.
"Our strength is as the strength of ten, because our hearts are pure," he
muttered, but he was not convinced. Still, he would do what he could, and it would
be enough because it must. He tested his anchorage in the bedrock of the mountain;
it was secure. Indeed, he had a momentary image of the mountain as an old woman,
strong, resolute, standing beside him as an ally with spear and shield. Perhaps a
fancy, but an encouraging one.
He spared a glance for the storm that raged above the peak, not raining yet but
building an arsenal of lightning such as Fandil had never seen. The storm was still
his, or on his side, as the mountain was. With such allies, and Elosjon's young
courage was not negligible, he could--
Lightning descended again, and the spirit of the mountain rose to meet it, and
from that startling union there burst forth a dragon such as Fandil had never seen
before. Black as the stone, golden as the sky-fire, beautiful, powerful, and deadly.
And the hatred of dragons for the Folstrom was legendary.

SPY REPORT
Greetings warriors! It is I, Zontani Sharp Eyes, here to bring report of the
clash and bustle of the weekly TOBIR games. Former top team THE DOGHOUSE was
unseated this week as DRAGONS GUARD moved up from 3rd ranking to take the top spot
with a 3-1-0 record for the round. Fortune did not smile upon THE DOGHOUSE this time
out who this turn suffered a fall into 6th position in the wake of a 2-3-0 round.
Warriors--remember that glory waits always around the corner! Witness how this week
THE DEATH SQUAD went 4-1-0 to move up 4 in the rankings. Did only my eyes note the
3-1-0 record which DRAGONS GUARD managed to post this round? I don't doubt that such
a record will draw challengers! SPONGEBOB caught the eye of many in the gladiatorial
commission as it skillfully bested FLOPEAR and was awarded 15 points in recognition.
In one of the week's more notable duels, SPONGEBOB put down FLOPEAR, causing him to
lose 11 points of recognition in the process. Although NOBLE ASSASSIN made a valiant
effort, it did not suffice to topple the reign of victorious TIPPI TURTLE. Heed
this! A seer has warned that if exactly 6 die in duels this week, the whole city
shall perish! Just remember...5 or 7!
Many and various are the arts of battle. In TOBIR "art" is a word that has long
since passed from the language! My inside sources tell me that the team to beat in
TOBIR these days is OTAGO HIGHLANDERS. At least, most blades in town are looking to
avoid them. Methinks more than a few here could name the guild it was that spent the
better part of last week avoiding OTAGO HIGHLANDERS. Indeed it was DRAGONS GUARD.
Mighty fighters cannot but expect competition from those below. BROWN BEAR take
warning! You have more than a few enemies in TOBIR. A match that raised a few
eyebrows at the games this week, it seems that SHLEPROCK posted a challenge against
the more highly recognized BROWN BEAR. The results, you ask? Well, the firebrand
SHLEPROCK was beat by BROWN BEAR. Remember warriors, this is the discipline of
steel. I can not but mention with disdain the name of BURNT OUT HIPPIE who this week
posted a challenge to a warrior a full 15 points below in the rankings. I thought
BURNT OUT HIPPIE showed great skill and promise when he beat BUSTER. All right, so I
slept through it! Big deal!
Vendettas. Bloodied blades and broken spears. Indeed the city has seen more
than its fair share of red in recent times. Some say a warrior is judged by the way
he bears arms. One thing is sure, better a dagger in hand then a sword on the belt!
A thought before I go. Each warrior practices one style, but must not the wise
manager learn the secrets of them all? More than a sharp eye must I keep, indeed a
stout pair of legs must I keep as well! The endless paths of Alastari await me!
