EPISODE 1: ARRIVAL
Pauly stood atop a small hill, looking out at the city of Seam about a mile away.
Taking in the site, he reached over and scratched behind Laverne's ear. She hissed. An
unsettling sound to someone not used to the ways of a Giant Demon Muskrat, but Pauly
knew that was her happy hiss. Pauly had never been to Seam before. From where he
stood, it appeared to be a beautiful city. Large domed structures dotted the cityscape
and steam rose from several locations. Seam was renowned for its hot springs and was a
favorite destination for the wealthy elite from all over Alastari. Pauly hoped to
find time for a soak, but he wasn't here for pleasure. This trip was all business. He
was here because he had had a run in with the Consortium in Kolact. They had stolen
the FONZ Conch Shell from him. A powerful holy relic of the Non-Alliance. Thanks to
some friendly intel from Riff-Raff, Pauly knew it was being taken to Mino, a top
ranking member of the Consortium, who was hiding out in Seam. Mino had beef with the
arena in Seam and he was going to use the power of the FONZ Conch Shell, twisted with
some sort of Consortium magic, to do something drastic. Pauly was here to stop that
from happening.
"Well girl," said Pauly, "let's not waste any more time." He hopped up on Laverne and
she trotted down the hill toward the gates of Seam. Pauly wasn't sure how he was going
to find Mino. From the information he was provided, Mino was in the city incognito.
Whatever his plan was, it would be going down at the arena. So Pauly needed a reason
to be at the arena. A lot. That meant starting up yet another team. He didn't have
time to go through his usual recruiting channels. Whatever was going to happen, would
be soon. He would have to recruit inside the city, but that was difficult since Seam
was classified as a no tourney arena. Higher caliber warriors typically did not wish
to restrict themselves by fighting in such places. Despite that little challenge,
Pauly was sure he could find five competent warriors. How hard could it be?
NEXT TIME: MEET THE TEAM
SPY REPORT
My sweetlings, draw close and mind the kettle, for Seam has given us another turn
worth steeping over. The Phool remains upon the throne, and this time he made certain
no one could accuse him of merely keeping the chair warm. The Warlords' striker put
down the Kung-Fu Master in a crowd-pleasing title bout and stands at 14-7-0 with 115
recognition. Warlords also climbed into the top team position, though their 2-3 turn
was hardly a victory parade. Sand Eaters slipped to second over the last three turns,
while Of Wolf and Man surged upward with a lovely 4-1-1 showing. Seam Stress gained
the most ground, piling on 53 recognition points, followed by Of Wolf and Man with 38.
Samwise Gamgee supplied the week's most emphatic lesson, challenging Mist Song and
demolishing the Warlords' veteran in a single minute. That victory carried Samwise
into Challenger Champions at 105 points, close enough to the throne that The Phool may
wish to keep one eye on him. Ryz Razorhand had a much longer evening, surviving four
minutes with Prince Vultan and emerging victorious in a narrow challenge fight. The
crowd appreciated the effort enough to name Ryz this week's favorite. Sera Starbloom
also earned herself a pleased little cackle from me, viciously handling Orc Monk in a
brisk challenge victory.
Among the younger blades, Seam Stress had reason to smile. Bounceless Baby Boy
challenged upward and defeated Sir Stumbles, while Woodless Peck did the same to the
previously unbeaten Greg the Grim. Fearful Hero then debuted by flattening Amy Allen,
giving the Stressful ones a rather productive afternoon. Of Wolf and Man had its own
successes: Elara Fenn remained perfect at 4-0 by overpowering The Mild, Dagan Kain
collected his first victory, and Selene Rook dispatched the Shiftyeyed Volunteer
permanently. Apparently even the Commission's hired help should read the warning
labels before entering Seam.
There was darker business as well. Five warriors went willingly through the Dark Arena
doors, and none returned. 80s Fantasy lost Bombaata, Seth, and DA1, while Seam Stress
sent Pointless Pointer and Bookless Librarian to the same unhappy fate. That is a
great deal of sweeping for the arena staff, darlings. Elsewhere, the managers played
their familiar game of ducking and hunting: Warlords was the most avoided team, Darque
Knights did the most avoiding, and Amanda of Able Company drew the most challenges.
Apparently four straight victories and a kill are enough to make everyone curious
whether the witch's luck has run dry. I would not recommend testing that theory
casually.
So The Phool keeps his crown, Warlords claims the team lead, and Samwise Gamgee now
looms only ten recognition points below the Duelmaster. There are several unbeaten
young warriors bubbling farther down the rankings as well, which means Seam is
beginning to feel lively again. Keep sending them, my darlings. Empty sands make poor
stories, and Sidara Brightbell has far too much tea prepared to spend the evening
talking to herself. Until the next turn, keep your challenges thoughtful, and never
trust anything that begins to glow after I have told you not to touch it.
Hugs and Curses,
Sidara Brightbell

BLOODGAMES 2026
Back by popular demand, we will be hosting a new slow Bloodgames mailed arena
beginning in August. We also plan our usual Bloodgames arenas at the winter and
summer Face-to-Face tournaments.
For those of you who always wanted the chance to manage the last warrior standing
alive upon the arena sands, your day has come. The Bloodgames are coming!
At the end of the ten turns, even though several warriors, bruised and scarred, MAY
yet live, only one will be crowned Champion of the Bloodgames. And in this game mere
survival counts for little. A great general once said, "The object of battle is not
to die for your cause, but to make your enemy die for his." This general would have
greatly enjoyed the Duelmasters Bloodgames. Here are the particulars:
Face-to-Face style Bloodgames Turn 1 is due by Fri at 9pm at the hotel
(Winter: DM 96, Summer: DM 98) Turns process with the tournament
Strategy changes allowed, bloodfeud challenges only
Mail-in style Bloodgames Turn 1 is by Sat at 9pm at the hotel
(Winter: DM 97, Summer: DM 99) All turns process overnight, mail-in style.
No strategy changes; all ten rounds process one
after the other and results will be out Sun morning.
Slow Bloodgames (DM 95): Turn 1 is due Weds September 24
Turns process every 28 days
Strategy changes allowed, bloodfeud challenges only
Gameplay proceeds according to standard DM rules, except for a few notable exceptions:
BLOODGAMES ROLLUP -- Your Bloodgames team is ten warriors, one of each fighting
style, each warrior designed from scratch! (All are DYOs (design your owns) with 84
points, 3-21, as usual.) To submit your rollup, just write/type them up and send them
in. We'll mail or email your overviews and you can write up your strategies. Your
warriors must be created and have strategies entered by the first due date.
DEATH -- As the name implies, the Bloodgames will leave the arena sands somewhat
darker before they're over. It's a dangerous sport intended only for the tough and
spirited. The Arenamaster will be less likely to intercede on behalf of a dying
warrior. Even at a 1 kill desire, kill attempts will occur.
REPLACEMENTS AND ROLLUPS -- There will be no replacement characters.
CHALLENGES AND STRATEGIES -- In the turn-based bloodgames, there are no regular
challenges, only bloodfeuds. There will be no DA challenges in any of the bloodgames
arenas.
TURN PROCESSING AND DUE DATES -- DM 95 is due August 1 and will process on a 28-day
schedule. The other two bloodgames arenas will be processed at the summer Face-to-
Face. (Note: there will also be bloodgames at the next winter FTF.)
MISSED TURNS -- All warriors fight each round. Only the dead may rest.
ERRORS -- If we make an input error, that warrior will be awarded a win and kill.
Errors must be reported before the next turn processes.
NEWSLETTER -- Warriors are ranked according to their number of kills. Champions of
Bloodgames may write a column for the newsletter at the end of the games.
FEES -- A Bloodgames rollup costs a $10 set-up fee. Managers may roll up more than
one team but may run only one team in each arena. The fee for all ten rounds is $49.
AWARDS -- The Bloodgames last ten rounds. Only warriors who survive to the end of
Turn 10 will be eligible for an award. However, a consolation award of a Bloodgames
T-shirt will be awarded to the dead warrior with the most kills.
The living warrior with the greatest number of kills will be the Bloodgames Champion.
Bloodgames Victor titles, 2nd and 3rd place will be awarded to those living warriors
with the greatest number of kills at the end of Turn 10, with one other important
consideration: Each of these three warriors must be of a different fighting style.
Win/loss records and, if necessary, recognition points will only be used to determine
awards if there is a tie.
The Bloodgames Champion fights for free in Advanced Duelmasters, and all Champions and
Victors earn Tournament Victor status, which allows them to challenge once per turn
with increased priority. These awards last for six months. The manager of the
Bloodgames Champion and Victors will receive Bloodgames T-shirts.
A Bloodgames T-shirt will be awarded to the manager of the team with the most kills.
T-shirts will only happen if someone gives us a nice design. One shirt per person.
AFTERMATH -- Warriors from the Bloodgames may not transfer to any other arena. Once
the games are over, the arena and teams will be disbanded. The fighters have won
their freedom and will never more be seen in the gladiatorial games. A special bonus
will, however, be awarded to the 1st through 3rd place warriors. Lady Sheila
Greywand, of the Isle of the Eye, has consented to allow the top three gladiators in
each Bloodgames admission to the Advanced Duelmasters games. Any special training
required to qualify those three warriors for Advanced Duelmasters combat will be
conducted before transfer into ADM. Astute managers will note that this means that
three warriors that are designed from scratch will survive the Bloodgames, win one of
the top three places, and go on to immortal glory! One of those warriors could be
yours!
The challenge is yours to take. The final plans are yours to make.
When the dust settles, remember: To the victor goes the spoils!

From: The Office of Accurate Census Reporting, Gladiatorial Commission
To: All Managers
In the interest of preserving our natural resources and preventing managerial writer's
cramp, the census form has been eliminated, effective immediately. Managers may
register their warriors' races and/or favorite sayings by simply writing them on a
separate piece of paper and submitting them to the Commission. Each warrior may have
up to 15 favorite sayings. Each saying must be categorized Jeer, Gloat, Boredom, Ouch,
Victory and may be up to 70 characters long. For any questions, please contact the
Gladiatorial Commission.
