SPY REPORT
Jhans is never quiet. The moment you step onto the sands, you feel the ground
vibrating with the soft murmur of the crowd, the aroma of leather oil wafting through
the breeze, and the clang of steel as warriors test their weapons in the pits. Before
daylight, there is energy in the air, and I ready myself for the day's action. I have
spent the whole day chasing the action from the bloodied arena sands to the ale-
stained benches, and here is what you need to know.
Let's start with the headliner: Barkeep Barb of Iron Damsels. Barb has held onto the
throne once again and now sits at the 27-9-0 mark. She stopped a spirited, though
unsuccessful, challenge from Papa Lenny. The crowd loved every heartbeat of that five-
minute test, but the Damsel's warrior proved unshakeable. She leaves the sands with
laurels and papers that say she will be heading for the Isle in a few weeks. Jhans
will undoubtedly be sad to see her go.
Iron Damsels are not just holding the throne, but they are back on top of the team
rankings. A 3-2 turn was good enough to topple the former top-rated squad, The
Whispers, who slipped with a 1-4 disappointing show. A fall from grace? It could be.
Or maybe it is just the dangerous ebb and flow of Jhans' steel with a tinge of luck.
And who else is on the move? I ducked into the pits to catch Tanks for Nothin' suiting
up with armor before their bouts. Let me tell you, their 4-1 run today put everyone on
notice. Mark 1 dismantled Ark, drawing gasps from the crowd and 17 recognition points
from the Commission. His stablemates, Saint-Chamond, Little Willie, and Bob Semple
stacked up victories as well.
Word among most stables is they are steering clear of Emu's Strain. Whether it is fear
or just bad luck, Emu's crew walks alone for now. The rumor mill also swirled with the
news that Tanks for Nothin' avoided them the most. Meanwhile, Syan-Lin of Dark
Abundance has become a most-wanted target.
That's the day as it is seen from the dust, sweat, and splinters. From where I stand,
literally brushing the sands from my boots, it is clear that Jhans thrives on
turnover. Duelmasters rise, teams tumble, and challengers bleed. Still, the crowd
howls for more. I'll be back in two weeks, right in the middle of all the action, so
long as the Commission lets me keep my spy reporter credentials.
