The HoF is now updated through turn 509. two new warriors qualified, Arduin's GWORM
and Pauly's SKY BISON. Both are first warriors for their managers Congrats!
There are four new warriors added to the Duelmaster list and nine invitees added to
the Lord Protector list and three warriors were added to the Most Kills list. I also
finally updated the managers list, let me know if I missed something or made an error.

Tales from the Shabby Cask Tavern -- The turn of a friendly card
As I push open the heavy oak door, I leave behind a wretched rain and a whistling
wind. Inside, the embers of a dying hearth dimly light the great hall, where whispers
are traded around the few occupied tables. I take my seat apart from the rest, melting
into the shadows of the room whilst awaiting my pint of ale. The gentle warmth of the
place weighs upon my eyelids, and soon my head begins to nod...
A bright fire now blazes within the great hearth, and a bustling animation reigns
throughout the tavern. From the center of the hall, a clamor rises from the
Longbeards' table: Visionist is in the midst of a spiritualist performance. With eyes
wide with wonder, he flails his arms like a windmill. Cogged dice and playing cards
come tumbling from his sleeves. Fortune in the arena, the return of a beloved, and
communion with the world beyond--he is now conjuring the spirit of a town merchant's
run-over hound. A great sorcerer, indeed. He is capable of predicting, without much
error, the weather that has passed these last seven days, as well as who was named
Duelmaster during the last turn of arena. Travelers recently recounted to him the
exploits of a holy man in a far-off land, and here he is, twisting them to his own
fashion: he multiplies fairy floss at paltry fairs and crosses hog-wallows without
ever soiling his gaiters. He is a prophet.
Gilmur, tankard in hand, rolls his eyes whilst striking his fist against his
breastplate. His double suit of plate armor, padded with chainmail, doubles as his
latrine. Rumor has it that during a fray, he took seven lance-thrusts to his prominent
backside without so much as noticing. He is a fierce defender of honor and of the
memory of those brave souls who fell in the arena. And he is scarcely short of work,
given the terrifying rate at which the chief charlatan sends his novices, decked out
in tacky equipments and with inept instructions, to be butchered in the pit. During
the last tragedy, the novice--evidently clueless as to what he was doing in the arena
and seeing his opponent advance resolutely upon him--reputedly uttered these last
words: "Is this for the four-cheese pizza?" Gilmur, then, flies to the rescue of the
widow and the orphan. At least, so long as the murderer is ranked among the initiates.
Confronted by a challenger initiate, our champion turns more philosophical and laments
the accident. Should it be an adept, he will blame the lonely widow for marrying a
fool and demand satisfaction from her in the arena before witnesses. Seated at his
table, our paladin regales the younger folk with tales of the dreadful perils he faced
during a bloodfeud against a fearsome veteran, a man with two bouts to his name and
ranked eighty-four points below him. He is a hero. His honor is as clean as a tavern
rag on a night of thick stew.
At long last, the ale arrives. I shake off my numbed limbs whilst straightening myself
upon my chair. My eyes have grown accustomed to the dim light of the room. Low
whispers can be heard as the embers of the hearth cast fantastical shadows upon the
walls.

Shadowspire Spy Report
Turn 510

Some mornings, a man wakes with a dry mouth and the uncomfortable suspicion that
someone rearranged the city while he slept. This is one of those mornings. Taizu is
gone, Frank O'Connor is sitting on the throne, Clan Longbeard has climbed atop the
team rankings, and Milli Vanilli has successfully returned from the Dark Arena. I have
checked the bottle twice, and regrettably, none of those things appear to be
hallucinations.
Let us begin with Taizu, who received Leonardo's challenge for the throne and
dispatched the Childhood Hero in a single minute. A tidy defense, worthy of a
Duelmaster about to leave town. And leave he did. Taizu has graduated to the Advanced
Games after a fine 21-11 run through Shadowspire. I suppose this means Master Darque
will now have to find someone else in Darque Ages who can make the rest of us feel
inadequately historical.
With Taizu departing, Frank O'Connor inherited his chance at glory and made good on
it, defeating the Venomous Concubine to become Shadowspire's new Duelmaster. Frank now
stands at 29-20 and, barring some particularly inventive catastrophe next turn, will
be joining Taizu in the Advanced Games immediately afterward. Jane Austen also had an
excellent day for the Literate Loons, carving up Ptyalism in two gruesome minutes.
Literature may not improve the soul, but apparently it does wonders for swordsmanship.
Clan Longbeard seized the top team ranking with a 4-1 turn and now sports an 11-4
record over the last three. Their lone tragedy was considerably more permanent than a
loss on the standings sheet. Cin Quarterhalf challenged Rudonn and butchered him in a
single minute, ending the dwarf's career at 5-4. Shadowspire recorded another arena
death when Grape Ape slaughtered Stretch Armstrong, while Dragon Pepper and Heuchman
were sent to the Dark Arena and did not return. Milli Vanilli, however, apparently
objected to the entire purpose of the Dark Arena and butchered a Shewish Giant
instead. Somewhere a bookmaker is drinking much more heavily than I am.
Power Hour made the largest climb in recognition with 52 points, followed by the
Mongoloids II with 46 and Dragonbane Guild with 39. Dragonbane had a particularly
useful day on the sands. Batterskull handled Brute Squad 1, Soulquake upset Dotar
Sojat, Paradarshin flattened Zerrun, and Whipsicle made short work of a Captured Orc.
Meanwhile, Rage earned this turn's Favorite honors by beating Giotto in a brutal five-
minute challenge and picking up 18 recognition points for the trouble.
Naturally, some preferred not to meet certain people at all. Of Wolf and Man was
Shadowspire's most avoided team this turn, and Ale House Mercs avoided them more
enthusiastically than anyone else. Taizu was the most challenged warrior, courtesy of
everyone wanting to be Duelmaster. Pharox Taht deserves mention for challenging twenty
points upward against Moldylox. He lost, but there are worse things than reaching for
something difficult and failing. For example, there is spending twenty-one minutes
watching Bill Russell outwait Hylda. Or thirteen minutes watching Imre Hegedus outlast
Pinhead. I survived both, but only because the concession stand knows me by name.
So we close Turn 510 with one Duelmaster gone to the Isle, another newly crowned and
already packing his bags, Clan Longbeard atop the heap, and several bodies destined
for occupations requiring considerably less movement. Congratulations to Taizu on
graduation, and to Frank O'Connor on taking the throne. Enjoy it while it lasts,
Frank. In Shadowspire, even the furniture seems temporary.
Until next turn, I'll be at my usual desk in the corner of Otto's Diner, carefully
investigating whether ale improves one's ability to understand arena rankings. The
evidence remains inconclusive.
