seven new warriors added to the Duelmaster list and nine invitees added to the Lord
Protector list and one warrior added to the Most Kills list. All lists and arena

The 500

The city of Shadowspire had always lived in the echo of steel. Its towers clawed at
the sky like jagged teeth, stone slick with mist, and at its heart stood the arena
colisseum of iron gates, blood stained sand and memory. For nearly two decades, the
arena had not slept. It had consumed ambition, forged legends, and buried the
forgotten. Now, in the week of the 500th round, the city held its breath one more time
and remembered bygone times.
The First Sparks (Turn 1)
There had been 44 guilds when it began, forty four banners snapping in the wind like
declarations of war. The arena was chaos then, unrefined and hungry.
112 fights on that first turn.
14 deaths.
Names chanted. Names lost.
Of the top eleven warriors in the ranks, five would rise beyond mortal ambition and
become future Lord Protectors. Back then, they were just survivors with sharp blades
and colder eyes.
Shadowspire watched them all.
The First Crown (Turn 3)
By the third turn, the number of guilds had grown to 50. Rivalries bloomed like
bruises across the city.
And then came the first Duelmaster.
ALBERTA CLIPPER of JUST CHILLIN.
No one had expected it. The guild's name sounded like a joke whispered in taverns.
The Rise of Lord Protectors (Turn 20)
Time culled the weak.
By Turn 20, only 34 guilds remained. The arena had begun shaping something greater
than champions: It was forging legends.
Three names rose above all others:

They became the first Lord Protectors who had transcended the arena. They were no
longer just fighters, they were symbols. Guardians.
Their ascension changed the goal of every combatant. Winning was no longer enough.
Now, they fought for immortality.
The Isle Beckons (Turn 50)
By Turn 50, the Arena had thinned to 31 guilds.
Five warriors were chosen and invited to represent Shadowspire at the Isle of the Eye.
A place spoken of in hushed tones, where only the greatest were called.

Their departure left a silence in the Arena. Not emptiness, never that, but a sense
that the ceiling had lifted. That there were heights still unseen.
A Century of Blood (Turn 100)
At Turn 100, only 25 guilds stood.
Three more were called to the Isle:

By then, the Arena had developed a rhythm. Deaths were fewer, but more meaningful.
Every duel carried weight. Every victory rippled through the ranks.
Shadowspire had learned patience.
Legends Etched (Turn 200)
23 guilds remained.
One warrior ascended to the Isle.
PRAWN STAR of OTTO'S DINER
An unlikely name, whispered with a mix of amusement and awe. The Arena loved irony.
By then, the Shadowspire Hall of Fame had been created and 25 warriors had been
inducted, their names carved into stone outside the arena, glowing faintly as if the
stone remembered them.
Visitors would stand there, tracing the letters, wondering how many more would join.
The Narrowing (Turn 300)
At Turn 300, only 15 guilds endured.
One more rose to meet Lady Greywand.
CHILD SMASHER of BIG LAKE SOLUTION
A brutal name for a brutal fighter. By now, subtlety was rare. Survivors had become
monsters, myths wrapped in flesh.
The Hall of Fame grew to 35.
Each name heavier than the last.
The Cult and the Crown (Turn 400)
Still 15 guilds at 400.
Still the arena refusing to die.
One more ascended to the Isle
VELINA of CULT OF BACCHUS
The 500!
Now, over nineteen years after the first blade was drawn, Shadowspire prepares for its
500th round of deadly duels.
The city is louder than ever, merchants shouting, gamblers whispering odds, old
veterans arguing over which era was the bloodiest. Spymaster Huard DePriest looms over
it all, always taking notes and offering his views, wisdom and advice on everything in
the arena report.
The sand has drunk enough blood to remember every footstep. Yet the gates will open
again and somewhere in the shadows of the stands, beneath the roar of the crowd, the
names of the past seem to stir, GREMLIN STEW, NARSIL, HRUAN, BURM WOLFSNARL, GERTRUDE
STEIN and BRAIN EATER all watching, because the arena of Shadowspire does not forget.
It only waits for the next legend to step forward.
SPY REPORT
Well, would you looky there! Five hundred turns of Shadowspire. Five hundred cycles of
broken bones and bad decisions. Five hundred turns of managers convincing themselves
that THIS warrior is finally "the one." Pull up a chair, pour something celebratory,
and let Huard DePriest toast the only arena stubborn enough to survive itself.
Five hundred turns. That's not history but sediment. Layer upon layer of blood,
grudges, and questionable management skills. Some arenas fade. We know because we
watched them close their gates. Some arenas implode and lumber along like a zombie
shuffling in an endless circle or grunts and howls. Shadowspire? It just grinds like a
bad habit that you secretly admire.
Perched atop our arena for Turn 500 is Gworm once again. He bloodfeuded with Moonfury
and made it look like a clerical correction rather than a fight. Title defended, point
made, and the story is over. Gworm, after sitting for a number of turns on the throne,
finally gets the invitation to the advanced games.
Sitting along with Gworm on top of the arena are his teammates. Arduin, enjoying a
wonderful 12-3 record. NBA Legends apparently remembered they are supposed to be
legends. They went 5-0, earned 62 recognition points, and were named Top Team on the
Move. Literate Loons enjoyed a balance of books and beatings, going 3-1. Finally, it
looks like nostalgia took a few shots to the head with Childhood Heroes going 1-4.
Nothing says "dangerous" like no one wanting to fight you. Big Lake Solution gets the
title of "Most Avoided Team." Efficient at 5-0, if not admirable, NBA Legends avoided
BLS the most. Byruho is either widely respected or smells like a win. I really don't
want to get close enough to find out. He was the most challenged warrior for turn 500.
The Parry-Strike style actually worked this week! They went 4-1 overall. Someone
notify the historians! Lungers had an off-week, but remain consistent. Bashers. Hmm.
Bashers are still punching air, going 3-6. Ever after 500 turns, nobody's fully
cracked the code. That's comforting in a bleak, I-need-another-drink kind of way.
Five hundred turns. Five hundred reminders that Shadowspire does not care about your
plans, your prospects, or your promising rookies. It rewards endurance. It punishes
optimism. It ALWAYS collects its due. So here's to Turn 500 ? not a monument to
greatness, but to survival.
Now, drink up. Next cycle, someone's name is crossed off the registry. I'm not sure
who, but I do know it will not be Gworm.
