Only one person, sitting in the left-hand corner of the forward-facing seat, was not subject to having her neighbor spilled into her lap every time the coach turned to the right. Lady Protector Sandy, the Homicidal Maniac. It would take a more stalwart traveler than any of these to encroach on the space she had marked as her own. Out of fairness--for she was a fair woman when not irritated--she refrained from falling over her neighbor when the stage swerved to the left. The road, which led from Mordant to Caer, was a particularly bad one due to lack of maintenance. Nobody went to Caer these days. Except the Shuttle. Sandy had made a few pointed remarks on learning that the coach would go to Caer and Khalhums--out of its way to Caer and Khalhums. The Shuttle, she had pointed out acidly, had been specifically designated to carry managers from arena city to arena city. Since there were no longer active arenas in Caer and Khalhums, WHY was the Shuttle wasting time going there? The road that ran from Mordant to Valamantis and then around the bay to Ardivent was much better, after all. The manager of the Shuttle station in Mordant had simply given her a fishy look and said that the Shuttle ALWAYS took that route. It had been ordained. The stockholders and directors of the Shuttle company saw no reason to change the routing for a temporary thing like arena closures. They were bound to open again some time. If, however, the lady wished to hire a private coach, he was sure something could be arranged.... Since Sandy was saving her anger, as a reservoir saves up water until the dam can burst for maximum devastation, she merely broke his arm and dislocated his jaw before climbing into the gaily painted stagecoach. Several of the other passengers had witnessed this minor altercation, which may explain their care not to encroach on the Lady Protector's designated territory. Sandy looked over her fellow passengers with a disapproving eye. Clearly, the Shuttle company had ignored its mandate and entered into purely commercial search for money. Not one of these people was a manager. She knew all the managers, and she was sure. Well, okay, there was an outside chance that one or even two might be very new managers who had yet to make an impression. But she doubted it. There were no scarred old warriors, no bearded mages, no demons with glowing red eyes. Farmers. Merchants. A blacksmith. Gods, there was even a Traveling Salesman. Her eye went back to the blacksmith thoughtfully. There was something familiar about him. An old manager returning after an absence? After all, she didn't actively remember EVERY old, inactive manager. This fellow might be...and he was the most interesting male present in any case. Oh, sure, he was going bald, but he had a burly competent look to him, his blue eyes were reasonably piercing, and she liked the flamboyant mustache. There was a limit to how much time she could spend with mild-mannered boy reporters, after all. * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * ---===DELARQUAN REGIONAL NEWS===--- Duelmasters ----------- DM 1 MORDANT (turn 481): CHYNA of HAWKS (Mr. Monsen, mgr.) SPY REPORT Thankyouthankyou. It's great for me, The Unknown Spymaster to be back in MORDANT. Hope you enjoy the show. Oh, who am I kidding? I already got paid! We now have a new top team for all of you guys to dogpile on. THE BLACK COMPANY now holds the crown and they are betting they can keep it. Coming up with a solid 3-1-0 outing, THE BLACK COMPANY has advanced 3 places in the rankings. Hey everybody, watch out for SYLITH, who flew up 16 points in the rankings after mashing THE EUNUCH like a melon. Keep your eye on this gal. Ya know, some days it doesn't pay to walk out on the sands. VLAD TEPISH lost to DARK HELM and drops 12 points. Well, everybody's pal CHYNA moved hers record to 21-8-0 by defeating MAN NEXT DOOR in the Duelmaster's Title Bout and gaining 10 recognition points. Advice to bashers--never force anything, just get a bigger halberd! Let's dig a little deeper into what's happening in the MORDANT arena. Here's a song for you: Who's afraid of the big, bad SOUL HAREM? Big bad SOUL HAREM. Big bad SOUL HAREM. MORDANT's afraid of the big bad SOUL HAREM. Tra la la la la! And you guys like to boo me? Well, unsling your rasberries, cause THE BLACK COMPANY beats feet every time SOUL HAREM smiles at them. Try farming, eh? And who is this GRAMMAW you ask, with 71 points and a 13-29-0 record. Ooh, the tales I could tell! Being a spy is great--other people die and you spend the rest of the day drinking to their memory. Better tanked than dead! This week 8-6-1 VORTEX was sent to the Dark Arena. I know a lot of fighters with similar records who might take notice of this. Big deal, so PAPER WASP got mashed in the Dark Arena. With his face he was more at home with the trolls than with us. (Waka waka). This week 7-7-0 TANK ABBOTT was sent to the Dark Arena. I know a lot of fighters with similar records who might take notice of this. Knowing when to use the right tactics at the proper time is a very important step on the road to Duelmaster. Well, there's the manager of the MORDANT giving me the 'cut' sign (or is that 'They're going to strangle you in the alley?). Okay, so I may not be the world's best comedian, but then you guys aren't the world's best warriors. Its been real, and its been fun, but it hasn't been real fun...-- The Unknown Spymaster DUELMASTER W L K POINTS TEAM NAME ABYSSINIAN 7043 6 1 0 101 CAT'S MEOW (522) CHALLENGER CHAMPIONS W L K POINTS TEAM NAME -MURGEN 7283 13 16 0 106 THE BLACK COMPANY (544) RICHARD PLANTAGENET 6881 18 21 0 94 DARK TOADS (506) DENNIS 7068 15 15 2 91 HAWKS (466) CHAMPIONS W L K POINTS TEAM NAME WISPER 5753 7 2 1 87 SWEORDMASTERS (138) TATTOOED DANCER 5060 9 7 1 79 SOUL HAREM (337) SYLITH 7357 7 5 1 73 THE BLACK COMPANY (544) GRAMMAW 7045 13 29 0 71 HOMICIDAL MANIACS (121) CHALLENGER ADEPTS W L K POINTS TEAM NAME FACELESS 7268 13 7 1 65 THE BLACK COMPANY (544) THE EUNUCH 5000 9 9 1 59 SOUL HAREM (337) LITTLE FAIR LEA 4999 11 7 2 58 SOUL HAREM (337) RAGDOLL 7039 4 3 0 57 CAT'S MEOW (522) ADEPTS W L K POINTS TEAM NAME DARK HELM 7242 5 1 0 47 BLOOD OF THE SPIDER (540) SMEDS 7358 8 4 0 43 THE BLACK COMPANY (544) FURIE 7244 3 1 1 38 BLOOD OF THE SPIDER (540) -FURIOUS IMPOSTOR 7027 3 1 0 37 REVELATIONS (509) BLUE SIOBHAN 4997 8 10 2 36 SOUL HAREM (337) CHALLENGER INITIATES W L K POINTS TEAM NAME -WAR MACHINE 7241 3 2 0 29 BLOOD OF THE SPIDER (540) JEJUNE 7386 3 1 0 28 MANNEQUIN'S BEST (537) BLOODLUST 7426 2 0 0 28 RIDERS OF CHAOS (547) -GREY GHOST 7243 3 1 0 26 BLOOD OF THE SPIDER (540) VLAD TEPISH 7374 5 3 0 25 RIDERS OF CHAOS (547) THAI DEI 7393 5 2 0 25 THE BLACK COMPANY (544) CHALLENGER INITIATES W L K POINTS TEAM NAME -ANNA 6939 3 4 1 25 REVELATIONS (509) -FROZEN CARCASE 7015 5 0 0 24 REVELATIONS (509) INITIATES W L K POINTS TEAM NAME HAYDAN 7356 4 10 1 23 HOMICIDAL MANIACS (121) MYGGEN 7360 5 3 0 22 HAWKS (466) SWALLOWTAIL 7387 2 2 0 18 MANNEQUIN'S BEST (537) -GET MY BASHON 7013 2 0 0 17 REVELATIONS (509) WHISPER SOFTLY 7421 3 1 0 16 RIDERS OF CHAOS (547) CHALEUR 7415 1 5 1 14 SOUL HAREM (337) THINREDONE 5751 1 0 0 13 LAB EXPERIMENTS (261) -ALAN A DALE 7406 2 3 0 9 DARK TOADS (506) DEMONKIN 7240 2 3 0 9 BLOOD OF THE SPIDER (540) -WILL SCARLET 7353 1 0 0 6 DARK TOADS (506) NUMBER TWO 7422 0 4 0 4 HOMICIDAL MANIACS (121) OUTLAW INLAW 7424 0 3 0 3 HOMICIDAL MANIACS (121) '-' denotes a warrior who did not fight this turn. The tournament announcement for the upcoming FTF and future tourneys will reflect these changes. First, we will eliminate the tourney freeze for all regular DM warrior classes. Regular DM warriors will not be classed ahead of the tournament, but instead will fight according to their FE on the date of the tourney. There will still be a freeze for the ADM classes, occurring on the same timeline as before, approximately 6 weeks before the tournament. In addition to the above change, the warrior classes will be slightly altered. The new tourney classes will be as follows: DM Tourney Classes ADM Tourney Classes ====================== ====================== 0 FE: Rookies Freshmen 1-4 FE: Apprentices ADM 5-10 FE: Initiates Eligibles 11-20 FE: Adepts ---induction--- 21-30 FE: Champions Contenders 31+ FE: Challengers Primus All regular DM tourney classes will remain solely FE based. All ADM classes will now be based on warrior characteristics (i.e., the ADM split algorithm), including the Freshmen class. The Gateway and Primus arenas will be merging before the FTF to form one top arena. These warriors will be split into two tournament classes, the Contenders and the Primus classes, again based upon their characteristics. More information on this will be published in the newsletters for those arenas. If you have any questions about the above changes, please contact Customer Service. Good luck in your games. -- Green Eyes and the RSI staff
