Xochithlan, the royal palace:

Tirisha Dulake leaned closer to her cousin, King Feyen, and pouted. "You can't
be so hard hearted, Pootles," she cooed. "It isn't like I'm asking a LOT from
you...."
Feyen was too dark skinned to blush noticeably, but he felt himself getting
rather warm under the collar. "Don't call me that!" he hissed. [It is a gift in the
royal family of Xochithlan to be able to hiss words which contain no esses.] "You're
the only one who remembers that Mother used to call me that! But what if someone
overhears?" He peered around nervously. Eavesdropping was the national pastime in
Xochithlan, but he thought his throne room was reasonably secure. Still, if anyone
heard her say that name.... He shuddered.
"If you'll give me the soldiers, dearest cousin, I'll be so busy and so far
away, I'm sure I'll forget."
"But Tirisha, I can't! If I sent Xochithlani Royal Guardsmen into Mordanti
territory, it could start a war, or at LEAST," he shuddered again, "Samir would send
that battlemage of his to 'make an official protest' and the man has NO sense of
style at all. His hair, his beard!" King Feyen stroked his own perfect little
mustache. "It's impossible, Tirisha, you must see that!"
"No, it is NOT impossible." Her coo was getting ragged around the edges,
letting the iron determination show through. She took a deep breath, noting that,
as with every other man who saw her do that, she had riveted Feyen's attention; after
all, they were only second cousins on one side. "You don't need to send the whole
Royal Guard. I'm sure I won't need a thousand men in Rodeki. It's such a LITTLE
place. A hundred will be enough to protect me, DEAR Feyen." She blew in his ear.
Feyen took his own deep breath and managed not to melt on the spot. "Well...a
hundred men, then, but no more! And not in Royal Xochithlani uniform, either!"
"Of course not, coz." She patted his arm as she straightened up. "I wouldn't
want anyone to get the idea they were on YOUR business." She slid out of reach just
a little ahead of King Feyen's reaching hands. "You won't have any trouble at all
over this, dear coz."

Arenamaster Xoron, a practitioner of the Ancient Elvish Martial Art of Seelie-
Khuei, was deeply resistant to feminine wiles. He was, however, extremely interested
in cash. Tirisha had plenty of cash.
"I guess I could find you a few gladiators to serve as a personal bodyguard," he
muttered, mentally fingering the coins Tirisha had placed on the table between them.
"I couldn't vouch for their reliability, though."
"I will attend to that," Tirisha said briskly. "Twenty ounces of gold for every
gladiator you can find me. Payable when they sign up."

Warriors and managers are invited to accompany Tirisha Dulake to Rodeki, or wherever
she may end up going. A note in the personals addressed to Scribe, or an email to
Livia@reality.com will do it.

Jhans:

"That is a fight you cannot win, Princess Morra," Chancellor Ethylbyrr said. He
leaned forward to emphasize his point, one hand on the report that had sparked the
discussion. "It is better not to enter a battle you cannot win."
     "Darron wouldn't--"
"Princess, your brother is no longer a boy, he is a young man now," the old man
said. "He will not be pleased to receive...advice from his older sister, much less
commands. Even without his new friends, he would be reluctant to--"
"All right, you've made your point." She looked away. Looked out the window
across the city of Jhans, but she didn't really see it. Didn't want to see it, if
the truth be told. She was surprised to realize that what she really wanted to see
at this moment was her husband, Gryzash the Golden. She had not felt strongly about
him one way or the other, theirs had been a marriage of political expediency. But
Gryzash was--had been--a confident, decisive man. One whose very presence would awe
these quarreling nobles of Jhans into obedience. Unfortunately, Gryzash was dead.
Her thoughts shifted briefly to their son, Gorris. She might have stayed in Jhans to
fight the treacherous 'advisors' of her brother, except...it was her first duty to
protect her son and defend HIS heritage. Let Prince Darron worry about Jhans now.
It was time for her to leave him to it, for good or ill.
"I must take Gorris to Sibikhas," she said finally. "That is where my duty lies
now. That city is his to rule, by rights, but it is easier to hold onto power than
to win it back after it's been lost. Will you stay here and advise Darron?"
Ethylbyrr laughed sadly and shook his head. "The boy--the young man--wouldn't
have me," he said. "His new friends won't want to share the influence, and...I am a
reminder of his youth. Which he would prefer to forget as he strives to become a man
in his own eyes."
"If you remain in Jhans without a royal post, your life won't be worth--"
"It will be worth nothing at all," the old man said. "I will be dead by the
time you clear the city's gates."
She nodded. There was no mercy in the Delarquan Federation for someone who fell
from power. "Come with me to Sibikhas, then. It would be a shame to waste your wit
and experience, old friend."
The old man half rose from his seat across the table and bowed. "I would be
honored to serve you in Sibikhas or elsewhere, Princess." Seating himself again, he
said, "But you cannot simply decide to leave Jhans and then go. You will need, at
the very least, bodyguards. The Jhans Royal Guard you cannot take with you--they
belong here and will provide some protection from Darron, if he does not run
completely mad and dismiss them. So you will need--"
"Gladiators," she said firmly. "Two or three, at least, as many as half a dozen
perhaps. They are--"
"They are crude men, for the most part," Ethylbyrr protested.
"So? They are less likely than any others to have political axes of their own
to grind. I will have gladiators for bodyguards." She grimaced. "I will need
them."

This is a call for volunteers. A personal, or an email to Livia@reality.com will do
it.

                                      SPY REPORT

I was going on vacation, see? Surf, sun... But what do those bums say? "Hit
the road, Debby Tonte. MORDANT needs a spyreport." Oh, well. Like, BLOOD AND IRON
had to be so embarrassed when they got kicked off #1 spot by SOUL HAREM! Way to go
SOUL HAREM! The guys at SOUL HAREM like really pulled together to get a 5-0-0 this
turn, moving up by 3. MVP award for TATTOOED DANCER? SOUL HAREM's proud of her
after beating DENNIS and getting 15 points. Talk about yer major upsets! DENNIS'
match with TATTOOED DANCER cost him a loss of 13 points! RICHARD PLANTAGENET thinks
his 19-23-0 and studly character is good enough to face up to the Duelmaster. Any
bets? This Duelmaster is like something else! WISPER stopped RICHARD PLANTAGENET
dead in his tracks! I hear the top team insists all their warriors get nine hours
sleep. They want photogenic fighters for PR photos.
I gotta admit I haven't been in "deep con caves" with any spies. Really, I just
wing this stuff. MANNEQUIN'S BEST was the most avoided team. Is a 52-75-5 record
really that scary? Hhmph! What kind of warriors are KING'S TEN? MANNEQUIN'S BEST,
an easy team to beat if I ever saw one, can't get them to accept an invitation! Can
HOMICIDAL MANIACS' HAYDAN be more popular than me? He was challenged the most, but
is that really the same? For sure, I was holding my breath when I found out FISH
BOWL MAN challenged BIG-HEADED KAT. After all, haven't KING'S TEN and THE MOTHERSHIP
4 had a long standing duel in MORDANT? It wasn't a spectacular fight, or anything,
but BIG-HEADED KAT wants me to write about it since he bested FISH BOWL MAN.
Satisfied?
Challenges, revenges, Bloodfeuds. All MORDANT ever talks about is fighting!
Me, I'm more laid back. What a bunch of heartless! I couldn't believe how many
people were snickering when WISPER killed RICHARD PLANTAGENET. So he had a 19-23-0,
that's no excuse! RIDERS OF CHAOS let THE EUNUCH of SOUL HAREM kill BODY SWIRL
unpunished. That's really low. (Even if BODY SWIRL was kind of a jerk...) What if
they had a fight and nobody showed up? I'd be out of a job, that's what!!!
Remember, blood on a purple robe may stain. Soak it in cold water, and hand
wash. I'm getting tired of writing this stuff, so I'm calling it quits. I had a fun
time, see you later-- Debby Tonte

King's Ten -- Don't you just hate that. You avoid the heck out of someone and then
get matched up against them! Usually happens to me too! -- Polarius, mgr. of Blood
and Iron

Thindredone -- Wow...you beat the snot out of me. -- Raptor

Foolcatcher -- Ok, two times is enough. My arm still hurts!!! I think I will
challenge Mordant Deserter this time! -- Balthazaar

Dogman -- Good fight. I like the outcome better this time! -- Corny

Mordant -- Greetings! I am Polarius, mgr. of Blood and Iron. I'd like to compliment
you all on the level of competition in here! Please come and visit us in Jhans
(DM 36) where we are going to have a kill contest starting in about six turns. If
you'd like to get in just let me know!

Chaleur -- Hm, how much damage can you take anyway? Seems an excessive amount to
me.... -- Thai Dei

Tattooed Dancer -- How could you do that? Grammaw was such a sweet little old lady
who made wonderful cookies and was kind enough to wave away the flies while you ate
them. You are totally reprehensible in my book! -- Faceless

Red Cloud -- Very nice. -- Smeds

King's Ten -- Hello yourself. Congrats on an excellent start! -- Darkfist, mgr.
Black Company

Corny -- The next time we match up, remember it's my turn to win. -- Dogman

Myggen -- You may not be tough, but you're very educational. Thanks. -- King

Alan A Dale -- I find your name quite illogical. Why shouldn't you be Alan A Valley
or for that matter Alan A Hill? Alan A Gully? Dales are archaic. -- Haydan

Smudge -- (coughing and choking) I'd rather be bitten by mosquitoes! -- Number
Two

Tattooed Dancer -- You are unseemly, as well as rude. I will not make cookies for
YOU. -- Grammaw, too tough to become a real ghost

Balthazar -- (grumpy look) That wasn't necessary, was it? I have WORK to do. --
Foolcatcher

Shrinky Dink -- Ha! You look like my son-in-law. Act like him, too. I know what to
do about wimps like you! -- Outlaw Inlaw

Faceless -- Alas, you will never learn from me again. -- Grammaw the not-really-a-
ghost

Fish Bowl Man -- (recoiling in horror) Decaf! No, never! If I can't have the real
thing, I'll have NOTHING. -- Number Two, not settling for second best

8 December 2003
Greetings! I would like to invite everyone to Jhans (DM 36) for the first annual kLk
St. Valentine's Day Massacre (kill contest). We will start the contest off with the
ceremonial burning of the Andorian flag on turn 450. (Six turns away. Roughly mid-
February.) The contest will run for 10 turns. On turn 461, 3 separate victors will
be announced. Team with the most kills, warrior with the most kills, and alliance
with the most kills. Prizes will be awarded to the manager of the team with the most
kills and to the manager of the warrior with the most kills. The prizes will
probably be team roll-ups. The number of roll-ups has yet to be determined. The
contest is sponsored by Jhans' newest, (but by the time the contest starts) largest
alliance, the kLk (pronounced "klick"). -- Polarius, mgr. of Blitzkrieg DM 36
