Notes from the arena champ.
Well, Flair, I have to wonder about the intelligence of a woman who keeps
beating herself against a brick wall. I really do. And YOU really do. It says
right here in the report that you were "struck by the parry." Since the Wall parries
by standing there, that being what walls are best at, you have to have hit the wall,
right? I know some people make a practice of beating their heads against walls in
order to have the pleasure of stopping, and other people keep hitting against walls
because they're too dumb to look for a gate, but I had hoped you weren't one of
those. Heck, even the Brick Wall had hoped, in so far as a wall can hope (it
translates more as "an expectation of mutual stability through verticality and firm
foundations," or something sort of like that; the messages are confused today,
probably because of the rain), that you were "more plumb" than that.
Oh, wait, here comes another attempt at communications. Let me see if I can....
Gladiator Flair (er, just might mention in passing that the wall is not too
clear about gender, although it DOES understand mortise and tenon jointing), you have
not been plumb. You are not parallel to code. You have caused my (not sure what it
means here, something about buttresses, flanges, shutters, just can't seem to get it)
(channeling an utterly unhuman being's thoughts isn't easy, you know) to fail in its
function. The Mason is displeased (I think that should be "displeased," but
sometimes it's hard to tell what "unplumb" implies in a given context) with the
suppliers. New bids must be solicited. There may be demolition.
Aren't you upset to hear that? Anyway, have fun on the Isle, kid. In so far as
the concept applies, consider that the Brick Wall salutes you.

SPY REPORT
You elder fighters surely remember me. The younger ones may call me Olaf
Modeen. I return to MORDANT once again! Hmmmph! I always thought JGW PERISHABLE
was an over-rated team and they proved it with a 0-0-0! What's with LAN? He
actually beat SWEORDMASTERS' MISCHIEVOUS IMP, and walked away with 16 more points
from the fight. Major screwup at SWEORDMASTERS. MISCHIEVOUS IMP lost 11 points to
LAN. Some new strategies, perhaps? Maybe MISCHIEVOUS IMP will provide more easy
wins... Try as she might, HELLACIOUS wasn't good enough at persuading BRICK WALL to
step down from the Duelmaster's throne... Wouldn't it be nice to have live subjects
to practice on? I hear some team is looking into the uses of convicted prisoners.
No matter the time or place, men will always duel. How well I know the feeling
of being in the most avoided team! Don't fall out of practive, HAWKLORDS! In my
day, no team with a 116-139-7 would scare me off! What's the problem, WIND STORM?
How well I know the feeling of being the most challenged warrior, COUNT MOTORHEAD!
Don't make idle boasts, they may come back to haunt you. Keep challenging up 37
points, JENNIFER, and I won't have to write about you much longer. HAYDAN always
accepts those kind of challenges... HAYDAN must not been fighting well, cause he
lost to JENNIFER of VOID. Sometimes you just have a bad day where things get, um,
mixed up. KANDRIS of WIND STORM knows how to pick 'em. He challenged COUNT
MOTORHEAD of HAWKLORDS who is up by 20. Now was this a wise move? KANDRIS perhaps
got his just desserts, seeing as he was overcame by COUNT MOTORHEAD and ended up with
71 recognition points.
There have been some calls to lengthen the time limit. Do you want the fighters
to walk away, or not? MARCUS, with his forgettable 7-6-0, was killed by HREOWAN in
a forgettable match. WIND STORM didn't seem to mind very much. HAIKU of MANNEQUIN'S
BEST got 13 points for removing another young punk. Tough luck, VORTEX! Is it my
imagination, or are fighters getting younger every day? To die so young, so
gloriously!
Who knows what the future holds for a warrior. More fights, there's no doubt.
