"The regional news is back!" Analira pirouetted into the room, remarkably light
on her toes for a woman still wearing armor from the day's fights. "No personals on
the front page, not even warrior listings, two sheets of paper in the newsletter, we
don't have to go on an adventure!"
"It could go away," Lubaya said sternly. "You can't COUNT on it. The
Commission's scribes can get tired or sick or go on vacation." She fixed her
teammate with the Glittering Eye of Domination. "We are going on an adventure.
Don't argue. Pack your gear."
"Just you and me?" Analira wished her voice hadn't come out as a squeak. It
made her sound like a mouse. Well, heck, she FELT like a mouse. Staring at a
particularly determined cat.
"The whole team. Well, except maybe Pike." Lubaya looked around the room,
suddenly aware of its emptiness. "Where are Abalonea and Nellistha?"
Yellow Pike, bleary-eyed and vague, wandered down the stairs. "Huh?"
"Abalonea and Nellistha," Lubaya repeated. "Where are they?"
Pike rubbed his face a couple times and tried to look intelligent. "Uh...Nell's
with that Orc. You know, the Kung-Fu one."
Lubaya looked stunned. "I thought she wasn't going to--"
     "He's persuasive," Analira said, shrugging.
"Yeah, I guess." Pike shrugged too. "I can't see it, but what do I know.
Abalonea, she got kidnapped. By a gang of Dwarves."
"Oh, gods," Analira said, "I KNEW we shouldn't have let her write that in her
personal!"
     "What?"
"About her being tied up and screaming in a mine tunnel. Writing something like
that is just ASKING for trouble. Where's the nearest mine tunnel?"
"Probably over toward Cliffhome," Lubaya said after a moment's thought. "At
least, tunnels. I don't know if they mine in them. Will that matter?"
"It might. And I guess there are for-sure mine tunnels around Rodeki--"
"But that damned Strongaxe is a KHALHUMS Dwarf, so he might have taken her
there, even though it's farther."
"Yes, but he didn't want to introduce her to his mum, so he wouldn't go HOME
with her, would he?"
"Stop!" Lubaya waved her teammates to silence. "We have to do this properly.
If it's a kidnapping for adventure, there will be clues.  We need to find the clues;
they'll tell us where we have to go and probably what we have to do to rescue
Abalonea from the mine tunnel. Or whatever." She looked around the main room of the
guildhouse.
Yellow Pike looked around, too. "What kind of clues? I've never seen one
before." He frowned. "You mean something like a ransom note?"
"Not a ransom note, who'd figure we'd pay to get her back? We don't have
anything to pay WITH," Lubaya said. "Besides, this doesn't feel like a kidnapping
for ransom plot. But...aha!" She pounced on a scrap of plant material under the
table. "Look at this!"
"I didn't do it!" Pike said. "I swept in here yesterday, too!"
"Excellent! Then this is a Clue." Lubaya laid the bit of leaves, flowers, and
stems on the table.
They all bent over it. "It's yellow-eyed acrimony," Analira said. "The stuff
debaters use to keep from getting sore throats. No help at all. It grows on rocky
ground everywhere, almost."
"Yes," Lubaya agreed, "but at THIS time of year, the only place you find it
blooming is in the Vale of Kaloris, near Khalhums! It's our Clue!"

                                      SPY REPORT

Well, what are you looking at, NIANIA? Ain't you never seen Snide Clemens
before? Ah, shaddup and listen to my news. Of course, we're all terribly impressed
to see PROWESS win a fight and gain 12 points, terribly. Tsk, tsk, PROWESS beat PIP
and PIP lost 4 points. You're breakin' my heart. And if variety is the spice of
life, NIANIA may be getting bland, as TOOFLESS stays top dog in the city. Kickbacks
and bribes, kickbacks and bribes, how else do you think some of these guys win their
fights? Skill? Ha!
Well, let's take a look at some more misdeeds of you miserable sword-boys.
Ah, now we come to my favorite part, where we see all the guys who are dead and
gone, and get to see if their team cared. Titanium shields and bamboo daggers, guess
what brave team is developing these kinds of weapons?
There's got to be a better place in NIANIA to get a drink than Jim's Tap Room!
Any suggestions? Phlllt! Just had to do that before I leave the fine city of
NIANIA. I feel much better now. Paste this one in your scrapbooks, you'll need the
kindling come this winter-- Snide Clemens

My family and I are moving from Colorado to Northern Virginia. I may miss a couple
of turns but I'll be back. Also, as I'll be on the East Coast rather than the West
Coast I will attend the Summer FTF in 2005, I will NOT attend the Winter FTF in
Phoenix. I hope to see some of you next year and meet those I've not seen in
Phoenix. -- Shocking Toad
P.S. I vote for a Washington D.C. Summer FTF in 2005.

Toofless -- If you would write a column, we wouldn't have to go on an adventure,
because it would be enough to keep personals off the front page even without the
regional news. Is it asking so much? -- Lubaya
P.S. Just mumble something, even.

Prowess -- I am honored! It is undoubtedly due to your patient training and sterling
example that I was able to win that fight. Thank you! -- Analira

Formidable -- Thanks for slamming that insurance agent against the wall. He was
surely annoying! It isn't like I have any insurance after all--the premiums for
gladiators are outrageous. He's just an ol' ambulance chaser, and a LOT worse than,
for instance, the Userous Merchant. -- Abalonea
P.S. Do you suppose we could have insurance agent as a standby? A lot of people
would enjoy beating one up.

Convicted Assassin? Pooh. A wimp and a wuss. -- Nellistha

Pip -- How can you be a glory-bound troll when you're actually a golem? -- Yellow
Pike
P.S. And mean.
P.P.S. Really mean.

Abalonea -- It is very useful to know how to timber a mine shaft. What if you happen
to be trapped in one and hear the stone starting to shift? There's no time for delay
then, you have to act at ONCE, and that means knowing what to do. -- Gobiann
Strongaxe, Dwarf of Khalhums
P.S. And if you are going on an adventure, almost any knowledge might be critical.
P.P.S. Tied up and screaming, eh? Sounds like there are some interesting
possibilities there. You really are too tall for me, at least for the long term, but
you're such a fine figure of a woman....

Neebles -- What did you PUT on that blade, you curst FINK? -- Tarash Tarindanall,
scribe of this city, sometime embezzler (but only when I'm bored)

Ooze-O -- Care to buy a little insurance? -- Sedmon Var, Moneylender and free-lance
insurance agent

22 October 2004
                         Youngblood's Three and Out Contest

I would like to take this time to announce and invite all managers to compete in what
I think will be an awesome contest. If you haven't ever TC'd at a tourney before,
here is your chance. The contest will start Wednesday, December 1, 2004, but a
chance will be given November 17 to dark arena, only, any warrior that you do not see
fit to run in the contest. So now that I have your attention, here are the rules
(like you didn't know they were coming sooner or later).

 1. Any manager participating can enter one team, only.
 2. No sandbagging whatsoever. (I will keep up with it, every turn.)
 3. No teams or warriors will be allowed to run after contest starts.
 4. All warriors will run until they lose three times, after three losses they are
     eliminated.
 5. If a warrior sits out a turn, they are accounted with a loss in the contest.
This is to keep warriors with winning records from sitting out until the end of
     the contest.
 6. If a warrior is killed during the contest, the replacement cannot enter the
     contest.
 7. If a warrior is killed, bloodfeuding is allowed, but only by a warrior that is
     active in the contest.
 8. If a warrior is run after being eliminated, the manager is disqualified from the
     contest, no questions asked.
 9. Challenges are legal, up or down.
10. Contest will keep going until 1 warrior is left without three losses, and that
warrior, of course, is accounted the winner.
11. All managers participating will be asked to purchase a rollup certificate, to be
awarded to the winners of the contest.

                                    <<<PRIZES>>>

As I have already said, and according to participation, rollups will be awarded
to the first and second place managers. So the majority and minority of the rollups
will be determined when all are accumulated.
Contest Champion--2 Faves prizes, and majority of rollup certificates
Contest Runner-up--1 Faves prize, and minority of rollup certificates
So once again I invite all managers old and new to participate in what should be
a fierce and challenging contest. <<<REMEMBER, FIRST OFFICIAL TURN OF THE CONTEST IS
DECEMBER THE FIRST, AND AS I SAID BEFORE, THE TURN BEFORE (NOVEMBER 17TH) YOU MAY
DARK ARENA CHALLENGE ONLY!!! ANY WARRIOR WITH ANY FE (FIGHT EXPERIENCE) WHEN THE
CONTEST STARTS WILL BE ELIMINATED FROM THE CONTEST.
