Part 1
The crowd roared their approval yet again, making the ground thrum with their
excitement. The streets were deserted as a lean bronze man ran at breakneck speed.
He bent to rest his hands on his knees as he stopped to gain his breath and wiped at
his throat; it burned like fire where blood mingled with sweat from the cut.
*That had been a close one! Forget about it, you're still alive. You're
alive!*
He pulled his hair back from his face, unsticking the thick dark ringlets that
fell halfway down his back. Another gasp of air, and he continued the jog around the
corner and up the few stairs, bursting through into the common room.
"Ori! Over here!" Brandy waved. Her smile turned into an 'O' as her eyes
widened, and Ori captured her into a fierce hug. He laughed and swung her in a big
circle.
"Euw! You're sweaty and smell like an ox. Let me go!" She struggled, then
laughed.
He set her back down and spun into a chair and kicked his feet up on the table.
Brandy looked at her clothes and sniffed disapprovingly. "You must have been using
Bubba's armor."
That received a laugh from Ori, a slap on the back from Bubba, and even Gavin
had to smirk.
"Well done, Ori. Two fights, two victories. That and only a single wound
received so far, I see." Gavin raised his wine glass in salute. "I suppose you're
off probation now."
That announcement was followed by a cheer and applause. Brandy looked at Ori's
neck with concern and grabbed up a napkin. "Lemme get it."
No, it's fine... really, oh, fine!" He gave up fending her off and pulled
Brandy into his lap. His brown eyes sparkled.
Bubba and Eio exchanged a look and then watched as Brandy, unfighting, doted on
him.
Gavin couldn't hide his amusement. Brandy, usually so cool and collected, and,
well... professional, was falling on the handsome man like a school girl. He glanced
at Lilly, curious at her show of disinterest.
She caught his gaze and shrugged, leaning close. "I know that look, I'm not that
predictable!"
Gavin laughed. "As pretty and charming as he is?"
Lilly smiled knowingly. "I'd get him eventually, if I felt like trying. Look
at them, though, she's gaga over him. Besides, there's some kind of history."
"Oh." Gavin leaned back, even more confused. Lilly had morals?
"That's official, then!" Bubba roared. But to be part of this team, you better
keep up that winning record."
Another cheer went up before Brandy broke her concentration on the hollow of
Ori's throat where the sweat mingled with a small sliver of blood. There was
something enticing about the small diffusing ribbon of red, the little salty drop.
"Earth to Brandy," Gavin called.
Brandy glanced up, blinking. "Huh?" Then stood and blushed from the
transparency of her thoughts.
She couldn't help it. The bounce his long hair had, even when wet. She almost
craved to run her fingers through its thickness. He wasn't too muscular, but well
toned, with a deep bronze skin that shone. He had golden hoops in each ear and one
in the eyebrow, just enough to add mystery and fun both to his character. His body
exuded confidence and moved with an uncanny grace. He was masculine but in a nearly
feminine way. The sculpt of his jaw, the slant of the eyes....
"Why don't you two get a room and get it over with?" Lilly piped up.
Brandy narrowed her eyes at Lilly and then excused herself and rushed up the
steps of the Land's End Inn.
"What's gotten into her?" Eio asked, giving Bubba nudge with his elbow. "I take
it that you guys have known each other for a while?"
"Well, in a manner of speaking." Ori lowered his feet and seemed lost in
thought for a moment. "If you're going to be around me, I suppose I should start
with my story. It's only fair."
"Fair warning, you mean," Bubba interrupted with a smirk.
"Fair," Ori corrected, drawing out the word, "in the sense that I have nothing
to hide and don't care about the social stigmas of others. The naked truth, if you
will."
Lilly scooted closer, ignoring the look Gavin sent her. "This might be good."
Eio rolled his eyes and slipped an arm around Lilly's small waist as he sat
back. "My dear little firecracker, anything with naked mentioned gets you
interested."
Ori stood and stretched, drawing their eyes, and others in the room. "That's
interesting to note. My story is a bit of a long one, and any story told deserves to
be told right. There is laughter and sadness, horror and, of course, hope." He spun
the chair around and straddled it, resting his elbows on the back. "But first, we
begin with a drink...."

The Kung-Fu Master set me up! I'm being forced to graduate, and I'm not READY!
I need to find the cure for my golemnity before I go to the Isle and get FROZEN this
way. I want to be a real person again, I'm sure I was originally. I don't LIKE
this.

P.S. In case you want to know, I go into disgruntled retirement--probably here in
Niania somewhere--as 10-11-10-13-15-10-15. Not exactly stellar, you'd think a golem,
specially designed to fight and all that, would be a little more apt. Still, it
could be worse, favorites are SC, very low/high, decise tactic. Expert in init, adex
in decise. What am I talking about, it IS worse! VERY LOW Offensive Effort? That's
offensive in itself.

Good day, friends and fiends, welcome to your friendly neighborhood spyreport.
I doubt NIANIA will ever be the same. And let's see, GULBY fought BUBBA BENDER and
gained 23 points and contributed to THE GOLDEN FISH's 4-1-0. BUBBA BENDER has lost
to GULBY, falling 16 points, while helping make PEANUT BUTTER FUDGE a 1-4-0 turn.
Defending hers title for another turn, GOLDINA kept PEANUT BUTTER FUDGE's warrior,
LILLY PEPPER, from claiming the throne. Can someone confirm a rumor for me? I hear
the top team makes their losing fighters do dishes at Jim's Tap Room until they win.
Maybe?
The crowd's roar, the smell of iron and leather, mixed with sweat, what more
could a warrior ask of life? Well, besides that. THE GOLDEN FISH has cause to stand
tall, as they were NIANIA's most avoided team. A smart manager knows this is a team
to beat. And avoiding THE GOLDEN FISH more than any other team we find PEANUT BUTTER
FUDGE. NIANIA, are we going to accept, or respect this sort of thing?
