                                The Kid's In Charge

The table made for a massive workstation, yet it seemed cramped and congested.
It was crowded with scrolls and inkwells and various manuscripts scattered in piles
across its wide surface.
The Arcane Kid, his slim form dressed in finely crafted mail, walked around the
table and muttered under his breath. The silvery rings, faintly engraved with
mysterious symbols, seemed delicate and decorative. However, from hard-won
experience in various practice sessions, Plasma Girl was well aware of its strength
and resilience.
Arcane suddenly looked up and barked:
"Where's that file on Vector Unstable?!"
Plasma Girl scurried around the table, retrieved the file, and briskly brought
it to the Kid, who watched her impassively. He snatched the file from her hand and
slammed it onto a collection of scrolls. Plasma flinched slightly, but otherwise
appeared indifferent to the Kid's actions.
Arcane flipped the thick file open and began poring through its pages. He ran a
slender hand down each page quickly, murmuring softly to himself. When he had
reviewed each page, he looked up and stared, unseeing, at the jumbled and chaotic
table.
Plasma Girl, already familiar with the Kid's mannerisms, did not allow herself
to relax. When Arcane began to breath deeply, regaining his sense of the present,
Plasma was primed.
"Get Vector in here!" barked the Kid. Plasma nodded and practically skipped out
of the room. She soon returned with Vector in tow, his plate armor clinking loudly.
The Kid was sitting in Havoc's chair, glowering at the muddle spread across the table
and running his hands lightly over the carvings in the armrests. Vector clanked to a
stop near the Kid; his eyes flitted in all directions, but his face was deadpan.
"Let's just get to it, shall we?" asked Arcane bitterly. "You lost to Perfect
Drug again!"
Vector dropped his gaze to the Kid's silvery chest, but did not change his stony
expression.
"You've been given some of the most potent steroids available on this world!
Your strength, intelligence, and deftness are noticeably improved. Do you deny
this?!"
Vector slowly shook his head, but his eyes remained glued to the Kid's armor.
Plasma, standing off to the side, fidgeted uncomfortably.
"Well, what's your excuse?" demanded the Kid.
"Uh, well, he's just got a lot of skill ratings that I don't got," muttered
Vector hoarsely. "He's been to a lotta tournaments, I think."
"Have you forgotten that 'special training' you received earlier in your
career?" sneered Arcane. "Whatever training he's received, yours has been better -
TOUGHER - and so guess what? You should be too!"
Vector quivered slightly, but remained impassive.
"Look to Plasma for your inspiration!" The Kid waved in her direction. "She's
never given anything less than 100%! And she won her fight against Zombie Bait!
Plasma, how many times have you lost to that freak of nature?"
     Plasma Girl looked uncomfortable.
     "A couple of times."
The Kid nodded to himself, then rose slowly from his chair.
"Anything is possible in the arena. Remember that! You train and you take
risks out on the sands; I don't expect perfection! But," Arcane waggled his thin
finger in Vector's face, drawing his eyes up into his, "that is EXACTLY why I want
that punk from Irate Formations taken down!!"
Vector Unstable glanced at Plasma Girl quizzically; she shrugged slightly. The
Kid paused, his head swiveled back and forth between the two gladiators. Arcane
settled on Plasma Girl, narrowly eyeing her inscrutable expression. After a moment
Arcane sighed and rolled his eyes up, staring briefly at the high-raftered ceiling
for a few seconds before shaking his head and resuming his seat. He seemed lost in
thought, chuckling to himself and shaking his head. Vector and Plasma stood
woodenly; however, their roving eyes moved between themselves and the Kid in wary
puzzlement.
"Well," sighed the Kid again, "one must make do with what one has on hand." He
laughed suddenly, briefly, then tilted his head and regarded Plasma and Vector with a
smirk.
"Havoc will return from Shadowspire sometime after the next match. In the
meantime, I will attempt to match each of you with your most formidable opponents. I
expect results this time!"
Plasma and Vector turned their heads slightly so that their eyes could meet
fully. Neither seemed happy.
"Of course, our challenges haven't proven efficacious recently," said the Kid in
an undertone, "but nevertheless, we must press on and do our best." He made a wide
gesture, encompassing them both.
     "Train hard! Dismissed!"
The two gladiators pivoted and walked energetically toward the door. The
clanking of Vector's armor reminded Arcane of a small clock he once owned. The
memory of that small pewter figure, its tiny hammer clouting a small, dull bell to
strike the hour, brought a brief smile to his lips.
"Send in Nanny's Boy, would you?" Arcane asked their rapidly retreating backs.
Nanny's Boy trudged in a few moments later, his maul swung lightly over his
shoulder. He ogled the huge room as if for the first time, initially not noticing
the Arcane Kid. When his wide eyes finally discovered him, Nanny's Boy inhaled
suddenly, then met the Kid's wide smile readily with one of his own.
"Hey Boss!" he rumbled, effortlessly waving his maul in greeting. The Kid waved
a manicured hand in return.
"Good news, warrior! I have scheduled you for some 'special training'!"
"That's great, Boss!" exclaimed Nanny's Boy. "I'll do my best!"
"Excellent!" Arcane replied, clapping his hands energetically in applause.
"That's what I like to hear!!" he declared.

                                 DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
                             Notes from the arena champ.

My throne.... it's so nice to be back here wearing these purple robes for the
fifth time, although I'm not quite sure where this stain came from since I wore them
last. <peers at Furious George and shrugs>
I'm eagerly looking forward to getting the call to the Isle this turn where I
can join my brethren Got No Brain and Skitzo Fray Nick. However, there is business
to attend to first....
From what Marma Duke has told me, as a Duelmasters first for him, he's making
one of his DMs BLOODFUED down to settle a kill which took place a few turns ago.
While I was surprised by this decision, I must abide by it... and it looks like I'll
be coming after you, Menoldrin Sko! This is your chance to shine, for if you beat me
glory and fame are yours... however, if you do not, I shudder at the thought of what
may happen!

Let the games begin!!!

Your Duelmaster,
Virtual Reality again, and again, and again, and again....

                                      SPY REPORT

If you were disturbed from your beauty rest only to have to watch a bunch of
OSKSI brutes like you, you'd be grouchy, too. POISON ELEMENTS turned their 3-2-0
turn into a 5th place rank in the listings this turn. Any better than this, and you
get put on hit lists. Of course, we're all terribly impressed to see CHLORINE win a
fight and gain 16 points, terribly. Tsk, tsk, STONED IMMACULATE beat PLASMA GIRL and
PLASMA GIRL lost 7 points. You're breakin' my heart. VIRTUAL REALITY Bloodfeuded
MENOLDRIN SKO for OSKSI's Title this turn, and guess what happened? And if variety
is the spice of life, OSKSI may be getting bland, as VIRTUAL REALITY stays top dog in
the city. Kickbacks and bribes, kickbacks and bribes, how else do you think some of
these guys win their fights? Skill? Ha!
He who fights and runs away will live to fight another day, the coward. STATE
OF MIND, I suppose you'll be glad to know you were this turn's most avoided team.
Care to know who is the most afraid of you? And it looks like GENERATION X avoided
them the most this turn. What a pack of would be losers, if you ask me. Hmph.
COFFEE HOUSE POET was challenged more times this turn than the Duelmaster. Now was
the DM insulted or feared? Heh, heh. I guess I can give a little credit to
CAVATELLI of PASTA for challenging up by 23 to SALDORINIVAN KIRO. CAVATELLI won to
get 26 points of recognition. And we have THE VOICE INSIDE in a challenge, going
down 13 points for the fight. Guess what? I thought THE VOICE INSIDE showed great
skill and promise when he won victory over TV DINNER. All right, so I slept through
it! Big deal!
Death and Taxes. The less death I see, the more it taxes my patience. Let's
see if anyone's dead or dying. Now hey, I like to see a death as much as the next
guy, but hey ASTRAL KIN, whyja send NANNY'S BOY to the Dark Arena, look at his
record, huh? Not that I'll be buying the drinks, but I'll be glad to see VIRTUAL
REALITY and STATE OF MIND at The Elefont tonight celebrating their bloodfeud victory
over MENOLDRIN SKO. It's about time FUNNY FARM FIEND got beat for picking on
warriors like COFFEE HOUSE POET. Bravo, GENERATION X. See you at The Elefont.
We're all going to die in the end, so why worry if the fate catches up with you
sooner that later?
What does the OSKSI arena have in common with the inns? It's just as
comfortable to sleep in either place. Ha ha ha ha! Just wait 'till next time I show
up here, I won't be so nice! So nyaaah! Paste this one in your scrapbooks, you'll
need the kindling come this winter-- Snide Clemens

Kareoke Killer -- Thanks for the encouragement. I think you're right. Those skills

TV Dinner -- There are some meals you enjoy eating so often that eventually you just
can't have them anymore because you need some variety. I think I've finally come to
that point where I can\'t bring myself to challenge you anymore, even though the win
is always a tasty treat!!! -- Virtual Reality

Ghost of Frequent Flayer -- I do apologize for ending your life prematurely... I
really only wanted to beat on you a little bit and then walk away with the win. The
kill was an accident... -- Funny Farm Fiend

Nanny's Boy -- To think I thought I was going to the DA, only to learn that I fought
in the arena against another warrior?!!! -- Cantstop Wontstop

mentioned you, the ink began to fade? -- Menoldrin Sko

                                 *TURF WAR VII RULES*
                            Starting Nov 2010 (12 turns)
Bring acclaim and glory to the North Fork (DM47) arena.

Anyone may participate; known alliances, new alliances, or temporary alliances
created solely to compete in the Turf War! To participate, each alliance must:
        1. Announce the Captain of the alliance in the North Fork (DM 47)
newsletter.
        2. Indicate in the newsletter which Captain/alliance you will join.
        3. Announcements made on the D2 Forums or elsewhere will not be accepted.

Captains are responsible for:
        1. Verifying/authorizing, in the North Fork newsletter those who wish to
participate under the banner of their alliance. (Lack of participant indication of
joining and/or lack of lack of Captain confirmation will delay a team's participation
in the Turf War.)

        2. Distribution of prizes should their alliance win the Turf War.
        3. Submit two (2) RSI Roll-Up Certificates to participate. (Note: Captains
may, if they wish, submit certs for all potential members of their alliance.)

Participating managers who are not Captains must:
        1. Submit two (2) RSI Roll-Up Certificates to participate (Unless already
submitted by Captain. Note: extras will not be returned, but will go into the winning
pool of prizes.)
        2. Announce their intent to compete with manager name, team name, and
alliance they will represent in the North Fork (DM 47) newsletter. Announcement made
on the D2 Forums will not be accepted.
               a. No scores will be tabulated until an RSI Gift Certificate is
received, and participant indication and captain confirmation are posted in the North
Fork newsletter. NO EXCEPTIONS.
               b. Before a manager can compete, he/she must declare themselves in
the North Fork (DM 47) newsletter as stated above AND be verified in the newsletter
by the alliance Captain they will represent.
               c. Only one (1) team per player may compete. No multiple teams or
aliases will be allowed. Violations will result in immediate disqualification
(including team point adjustments) from the Turf War (so be sure to take any multiple
teams OFF of Team Maintenance and be certain not to run any other team warriors).
               d. Scoring will NOT be retroactive for teams/alliances that do not
properly declare or get captain confirmation or fail to send a Gift Certificate by
Turn 1. In other words, if your Gift Certificate is not received until Turn 3 of the
Turf War, and you have fought on Turns 1 and 2, your score will not begin until Turn
3. All conditions must be met before scoring will begin--declaration, verification,
and Gift Certificate received.
               e. No declarations or verifications will be accepted after Turn 5 of
the Turf War.
               f. For purposes of scoring, the moderators will score the Turf War
and settle any and all disputes as they arise. Their decisions will be final. (Note:
the intent is to have a very thorough set of rules so that few decisions, if any, are
required from the moderators.)

Scoring will be as follows for Fights:
                                   Win Loss Kill Die
Up Challenge +2 -2 +5 -5
Down Challenge 0 -2 0 -5
Match Up +1 -1 +1 -5
Bloodfeud Challenge (Up or Down) +2 -5 +5 -10

Dark Arena* +10 -5 xx xx
Tournament Death*** -5
Halfway (6 round total) best alliance win/loss percentage ****
Final (12 round total) alliance w/l% percentage ****
*After 2nd win in DA, warrior scores no additional points for wins,
** A Champion's double score applies to his score only -- not to the opponent.
*** No warrior may be substituted without the proper use of the DA or arena death
or death in a tournament. There must be a maximum of five only on a team at any point
and time. (The penalty for such substitution is -10 points.) Points awarded for
tournament participation are 5 for any entrant, 15 for a TV and 25 for a TC. Death in
a tournament negates any tournament points gained and results in a-5 score.
    ***** Halfway points scored are 25, 20, 15, 10, 5, 5, 5 (etc) for 1st, 2nd, 3rd
(etc). (to qualify for any of these points the alliance must have fought 75% of its
possible fights.) Final 12 Round points scored are 40, 30, 20, 15, 10, 5, 5, 5 (etc)
for the 1st, 2nd, 3rd (etc). (to qualify for any of these points the alliance must
have fought 75% of its possible fights.)

Special Scoring Considerations for the Turf War are as follows:
Spy Report mention (team name only) +2
     1. No matter how many mentions or stylemasters, an individual team can score
only +2 in each category per round
Style Master +2
      1. No matter how many mentions or stylemasters, an individual team can score
only +2 in each category per round
Duelmaster +2

Champions:
     1. A Champion may be declared, but one is not mandatory.
     2. Only one Champion allowed per manager at any given time.
     3. Champions that graduate or are killed by another warrior in the arena, but
not the Dark Arena, may be replaced.
     4. Champions must have fought at least one previous fight in the North Fork
(DM47 arena) to be able to be declared a champion.

Bloodfeuds:
        1. Bloodfeuds will score points on all four (4) turns.
        2. There is no limit to which warrior may bloodfeud or how often.

Tournament Considerations:
        1. Tournament participation is ALLOWED and encouraged.
        2. Tournament Victors won during the course of the contest will gain a one
(1) time bonus of 25 15 points. This bonus will apply EACH time a warrior(s) wins
such status.
        3. Tournament Champions won during the course of the contest will gain a one
(1) time bonus of 50 25 points. This bonus will apply EACH time a warrior(s) win
such status.
        4. Points awarded for tournament participation are 5 for any entrant, (15
total for a TV and 25 total for a TC.) However, death in a tournament will result in
a -5 score for that tournament. (If a warrior TV's and is subsequently killed in a
tournament the points scored are -5 for that tournament.)
        5. Points for TVs and TCs and tournament deaths will be applied the Turn
after RSI posts tournament results in the North Fork (DM 47) newsletter (i.e., if the
results post on North Fork turn 275, points will be credited on North Fork turn 276
to the applicable teams).

Special Considerations:
        1. Each alliance begins the Turf War with zero (0) points.
        2. There will be NO alliance or team changes once the contest has begun. If
you begin the Turf War with Alliance A, you must end the Turf War with Alliance A.
If you begin the Turf War with Team A, you must end the Turf War with Team A.
        3. There will be a maximum of five (5) teams allowed per alliance for the
Turf War VII.
        4. The Dark Arena may be used on the first turn only, of every warrior,
without penalty.

Prizes:
The Turf War is normally a "winner take all" contest. However, for TWVII, a prize
will be awarded each of the twelve turns to the individual team/manager that fights
five fights and has the best w/l record that turn. (Tiebreakers are in order - kills,
recognition points earned.) All prizes and 100% of the Gift Certificates will be
awarded to the Captain of the winning alliance at the end of the competition. It is
the responsibility of the Captain to distribute Gift Certificates. Moderators will
submit a list of each manager on the winning alliance to RSI at the completion of the
contest for the non-Certificate prizes.

All entry fees (rollup certs) are awarded to the winning alliance, except for
the twelve reserved for the individual winning manager each week.)
The following prizes have been secured from RSI:
        1.  Renaming of the North Fork (DM 47) arena;
        2. Renaming of all Dark Arena Monsters (two for each manager in the winning
alliance);
        3. Known Favorites for one warrior on each team of the winning alliance
(warrior must be ranked Initiate or above, must be alive, and must have at least one
DM47 arena fight to receive this award).
        4. +1 Skill bonus potion for each manager on the winning alliance. Bonus
potion must be applied to a living warrior from (DM 47)
        5. +1 Skill bonus potion (one) for each and every individual manager who
fights in all 12 rounds AND 54 fights of the Turf War. Bonus potion must be applied
to a living warrior from (DM 47)
These RSI awards will be listed by the Moderator for claiming from RSI (Lee)
within 4 turns of the end of TW VI. The certs will be mailed to the winning alliance
by the Moderators within two weeks of the end of the TW.

Moderators:
The Moderators for this event will be Oz and Master Darque. They will arbitrate all
dealings during the course of the contest. Their decisions will be final. All
questions, comments, and scoring disputes may be directed to Land of Oz or Darque
Forces via diplo in DM 47. Managers with internet access may send a private message
to [The Consortium] or [Darque] on the Duel2 Forums. Lastly, you may also email
questions, comments, and scoring disputes to rebelnerfherder at yahoo dot com or
wfms101 at aol dot com.

Please note there have been rule changes from the last Turf War. Please read them
carefully!

This contest will begin in November 2010 following the Fall Mail In.
