Daeromenzian Val leaned on the railing and stared out over the descending
roofscape of Osksi and the steely glitter of the harbor beyond. He sighed. "You
know, Fal, sometimes this just seems totally unreal."
His teammate Falrondial Voth, a less imaginative man, blinked. Unreal? He
stamped on the pavingstones under his feet, thumped the railing that guarded the
drop-off to the next level of the city. Seemed real enough to him. And that wind
coming off the Trier was really cold. "Uh... like an illusion?"
Daero sighed again. "Not that kind of unreal, Fal. More like... like I'm
dreaming, and any time now I'm going to wake up and find myself in a dungeon back in
Kekoral."
"Oh. Well, if you're dreaming this, I'm dreaming it, too, so it's okay, because
I'm not dreaming, so you aren't, either."
Daero couldn't think of any answer to that, so he kept silent.
"It seems weird the Trier doesn't freeze, though," Fal added after a minute. "I
know we're farther south, but not that much farther, are we? It's the middle of
winter, it should FREEZE. I bet the Karian is frozen."
"Nah--"
"Listen, the Karian ALWAYS freezes after the solstice! You know that."
"Let me finish, huh? Yes, the Karian is probably frozen. But no, I don't think
the Trier ever freezes seriously." Daero shrugged. "I asked one of the stewards at
the arena. He thought the question was crazy! I guess it's because of the magic
wars they used to have around here."
Falrondial was silent for several minutes. "Not reasonable," he said. "Magic
is cold. You've seen the ruins at Varkista. Where magic goes, it leaves ice."
Daero shook his head. There were times when he had been glad of Fal's obstinate
literal-mindedness, but this was not one of them. Getting a new idea through that
block of granite he called his head--eh! Some other day. "How about a drink?"

Notes from the arena champ.
Hear ye, Hear ye, Osksi! I know our crew has been kind of AWOL on the personals
lately, but Storm Lord put the lid on our yapping while he was off in faraway lands.
Looks like he didn't trust what we'd say when he wasn't around. But no matter! He's
back, and I'm here to commemorate being your Duelmaster and getting invited to the
Isle!
And Stormy says I actually made history with my graduation. It looks like he
has finally graduated all 10 styles to the immortality! Woo Yoo! I better be
getting a special place in his ring of honor. And since he is leaning towards
retiring me, looks like my next fight is my last. And the honor of my last fight
goes to either Vector Unstable or Funny Farm Fiend, who ever decides to take my
challenge first. As for my favorites, it turns out to be the shortspear (thought it
was actually the longspear), and low offensive effort, moderate activity.

SPY REPORT
If you were disturbed from your beauty rest only to have to watch a bunch of
OSKSI brutes like you, you'd be grouchy, too. Later days, GAMES LIBRARY, since STATE
OF MIND took top team from you this turn, you guys are old news. Of course, we're
all terribly impressed to see SNOOZE BANDIT win a fight and gain 29 points, terribly.
Tsk, tsk, LOABAL DOMINATION beat DARIROKAN KOR and DARIROKAN KOR lost 12 points.
You're breakin' my heart. And if variety is the spice of life, OSKSI may be getting
bland, as KAREOKE KILLER stays top dog in the city. The Elefont, humph! I've tasted
better ale at mortuaries. Where do they get this stuff? From OSKSI's trash dumps?
Well, let's take a look at some more misdeeds of you miserable sword-boys.
ASTRAL KIN, I suppose you'll be glad to know you were this turn's most avoided team.
Care to know who is the most afraid of you? And it looks like STATE OF MIND avoided
them the most this turn. What a pack of would be losers, if you ask me. Hmph. Ooh,
I'm frightfully impressed, MEGA PIXEL was this turn's most challenged warrior. Watch
that ego swell, sports fans.
Death and Taxes. The less death I see, the more it taxes my patience. Let's
see if anyone's dead or dying. And what a stunning loss we have here, boys and

Osksi -- Vector got his call, and it's a tearful loss. He was around in the Golden
Age; his first fights were against the Balrogs, the Nukes, and American Appraisal.
He's always been a personal favorite -- If it weren't for Perfect Drug and his high
FE (curse him!) Vector's record would be much better. Stats: 16(+1)-12(+1)-9-
14(+1)-16(+1)-7-15(+1). Favors a Very High offensive effort and a Moderate activity
level... I never did try that. The broadsword is his favorite; you'd think he'd have
pulled off many more criticals during the many times he carried it! Oh well...
