Or at least go to a bigger arena," argued the middle sized woman standing at the manager's desk. Seraphim put down the stack of contracts and looked the woman in the eye. "Honor; the size is why I placed you here. At the moment I have politicians involved in the war of Aruak, I have legions involved in the Battle Royale, one of my legions is in place to start TOGS, and all of the legions are preparing for the grand tourney coming up. I need an arena where I can regroup. Besides all the other legions are having serious problems, and after watching you practice even you have to admit you don't need any problems." Honor paced the room twice trying to come up with another angle to an argument that has lasted weeks already. "What if the small size sets us up for failure? Are we to sit at the bottom of the lists just because we face the same opponents over and over?" Shaking his head Seraphim gave his fighter credit in her stubbornness, smiling he thought to himself that it was time to end the argument. "If you're afraid of the bottom of the lists, then don't lose. Even if you lose every fight of every week, you'll not be doing much worse than the other legions I've placed. I have groups in the largest arenas there are, I want to try a small one. Besides, look at it this way, no matter how badly you do you'll still be in the top ten." In spite of herself, Honor laughed. "Alright then, who's gonna fight this week, I know you have some of us slated for the grand tourney." Seraphim picked up the contracts and handed them over. "You pick; who fights now and who fights later will be up to you. All of you will be participating in the tourney and there is still time for any of you." As the door closed behind the departing fighter, Seraphim sighed. Pulling out his training scrolls he made a quick note on one of the last three blank scrolls 'Legion of Virtue activated--quality level: low average/dedication level: High.' Placing the scrolls back in the tubes and pulling out his journal, Seraphim began to write. <Personal entry of Seraphim under the heading: JHELUM and the LEGION OF VIRTUE> With this legion on the sands there is one less thing to worry about. Once I am done recruiting and placing all the new teams I can concentrate more on managing them. Hopefully I won't let any of them down. <end of entry> * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * ---===DELARQUAN REGIONAL NEWS===--- Duelmasters ----------- DM 1 MORDANT (turn 477): EARL OF HUNTINGTON of DARK TOADS (TigToad, mgr.) DUELMASTER'S COLUMN Notes from the arena champ. Ole! Baqa, I have defeated you fair and square, because I am the Top Dog! And finally the Commission has noticed my great worthiness, and I am ageless and immortal. I will leave this place gladly for a city much more sophisticated and appreciative. Super Che Super Che is a ripper, 9-15-11-17-13-4-15, good endurance, takes a lot of damage, does normal damage, SH, low/low, uses riposte tactic. He is, in fact, using the shortsword, but only because he ran last turn on a gross input error. Still, since it seems to work for him, I think I'll let it stand for now. SPY REPORT Hail and well met warriors of JHELUM! Know me for who I am, Zontani Sharp Eyes, Spymaster extraordinaire of all Alastari. A new guild, LEGION OF VIRTUE, entered JHELUM with a clash this turn, showing off a 3-1-0 record. Indeed, a worthy addition to the city guilds. GLORY caught the eye of many in the gladiatorial commission as he skillfully bested EMBEZZLING SCRIBE and was awarded 20 points in recognition. In one of the week's more notable duels, DANGEROUS CRIMINAL put down G.A. CUSTER, causing him to lose 2 points of recognition in the process. Although M. CHARDINEE made a valiant effort, it did not suffice to topple the reign of victorious SUPER CHE. Informants "close" to the city champion have told me that he never fights without pantyhose on beneath his armor. Watch out! But come now, let us look deeper into the maze of contention and crossed blades that is city JHELUM. What warrior does not hone his years, impatiently waiting for the moment of his foe's mortality? Dark alleys may hide both secrets and assassins. In the arena there is only the brightness of steel. Keep vigil always! A thought before I go. Each warrior practices one style, but must not the wise manager learn the secrets of them all? More than a sharp eye must I keep, indeed a stout pair of legs must I keep as well! The endless paths of Alastari await me! Till next we meet remember - the pen is mightier than the sword, but a maul is a different story!-- Zontani Sharp Eyes DUELMASTER W L K POINTS TEAM NAME SHERMAN 5391 13 12 1 93 DOGS OF WAR (115) CHALLENGER CHAMPIONS W L K POINTS TEAM NAME -BAQA 5415 11 5 0 93 ABBY NORMAL (190) CHAMPIONS W L K POINTS TEAM NAME LYSISTRATA 5389 17 9 1 88 DOGS OF WAR (115) -FANA 5414 11 5 1 72 ABBY NORMAL (190) CHALLENGER ADEPTS W L K POINTS TEAM NAME -METAGRUMBLER 5422 8 5 0 61 ABBY NORMAL (190) ADEPTS W L K POINTS TEAM NAME G.A. While you were sleeping, an irksome rabble has entered the always fair Aruak City. Of course they fought alongside our warriors, most not so treasured, as all gladiators do. They drank with themselves, and slept with themselves. Whether they had masks, who cares. Warriors, don't be afraid. For years Aruak has been one of the safest cities in Ghea, and that custom has been continually cultivated, and will continue to be by those who have called it home for years and those who live, fight, and die by the same ethics. There is no contest, nor has there ever needed to be one for many years. A conflict of personalities has arisen, and the city has been 'invaded' by pests. Any rules that are annouced will be purely for the joy of the lemmings' own little world. Those who are being targeted have no interest in participating except to defend the integrity of an arena that is different from others. Whether you choose to come to Aruak, do it for your own reasons, not theirs. Competing in Aruak City has never been for the faint of heart or the weak willed. Combat is combat, wherever you go. Blood will flow as always, and now many innocents will be caught in the middle, but those who defend Aruak's traditions never target those who bring respect of Aruaki customs with them to our home. So ignore the private ranting announcement brought by the stuporous Frothingsloshers. If you choose Aruak City, do not choose it for an unsanctioned and bogus 'contest', choose it for the tradition. Choose it because Aruak is different.
