"It's indecent, that's what it is," Epimonidas announced. He gestured broadly,
which, since he had a sword in his hand at the time, caused his teammates to step
back.
"Many things are indecent," Hannibal said, taking another step back. The
practice room wasn't large enough to keep backing up, and if Epimonidas didn't calm
down soon, he was going to leave. "We just have to live with them."
"It is indecent," the shorter man said, "that the newsletter should go onto the
fourth page, and STILL have warrior listings on the first!"
"Oh, that's easy!" Jimmy Custer said. He had that 'I know exactly what's going
on and will pursue it to the end' look that made his teammates cringe and slip out of
rooms. Howard and Challon slipped out now. "It's because of that contest they're
setting up for Tobir--the all-arena notice, you know--and the report from the
tourney! They--"
"I am aware," Epimonidas said, placing the point of his blade against his
younger teammate's throat, "of the reason for the second sheet of paper on the
newsletter. I am not aware of any effect those two reports have on the FRONT of the
newsletter."
Jimmy's eyes crossed as he tried to follow the sword up to the point where...up
to the point. He opened his mouth to speak, probably to say something that would
rile the Greek general further.
Hannibal stepped forward and put his hand on Epimonidas's shoulder. "You know I
can't stand the sight of blood," he said. "The boy is an idiot, but he probably
can't help it. Did you have some idea for pushing the warrior listings off the front
page?"
After a moment, which seemed to Jimmy Custer a very LONG moment, Epimonidas
sheathed his sword and turned his back on the youth. "We need an adventure."
Hannibal raised an eyebrow. "Not possible, and you know it! The circular was
very clear: no adventures before the new year, and maybe not then."
Epimonidas shook his head with the stubbornness for which he was, at least to
his teammates, well known. "The circular said nothing PLANNED. Nothing with a clear
beginning, middle, and end. I thought we might just wander around and get into
trouble." He glanced at Jimmy. "That should be easy."
"Without a plan, a grand strategy?" Hannibal asked. He frowned. The idea had
its intriguing points, such as that they would be DOING something, but.... He shook
his head. "Every time I went off chasing a wild hare, with no overall plan, I got
nothing BUT trouble. Action is good, but there must be a REASON for it." He held up
one hand. "Besides pushing the warrior listings off the front page of the
newsletter."
"Well..." Epimonidas stared into space for several seconds, "we COULD set up a
plan, if it's loose and it doesn't involve anyone else. You know the real problem
with 'too many adventures' is that the bards don't like to leave people hanging in
mid-adventure, but if WE do it, if we agree to the possibility and don't CARE, well,
it should be fine, right?"
"Wrong. I don't like to be left hanging any more than anyone else does. And
besides, why should we get into the news if we aren't doing anything conclusive?
Sounds boring to other people."
"Cameo appearances," Epimonidas suggested. "In and out in one, er, report in
the newsletter. People likes to see their names in print."
"Only if you spell it right and make sure they're portrayed heroically."
"This would not be a problem."
"Oh, no? How would you portray Bore-O-Me heroically?" Hannibal asked.
Epimonidas was silent for a moment. "Um...we could just leave him out. Unless
he gets new jokes."
     "Ep, I don't think--"
Howard burst back into the training salon. "Big doings on the plaza!" he said.
"Come see!"

                                      SPY REPORT

Much has changed in JHELUM since last I was here. Never fear, Olaf Modeen
adapts to many situations, as do all successful fighters. Up 'n down. Up 'n down.
Rankings always change. Up 'n down. I think I'm gonna be... Well, LOTHLORIEN's 1st
moved them up to 4-1-0 place. Some people say I ramble too much, I don't say
anything relevant. I repeat myself. I ramble. Well F BALLS moved up 4, to 4th.
What's with GALADRIEL? She actually beat DOGS OF WAR's JIMMY CUSTER, and walked away
with 20 more points from the fight. Laughs were big at F BALLS while they watched
FUZZ BALL clobber HOWARD. He lost 8 points and got bruised from objects thrown from
the stands. F BALLS' hatred of THE SHALLOWSHIP surfaced again as FORK BALL
challenged JHELUM's top dog. I'm sure JHELUM is excited about FORK BALL, the new
Duelmaster from F BALLS. (remember?) But when you've seen as many as I have...
Advice to fighters with a 1 will--give up fighting!
If at first you don't succeed, avoid. That'll get you in the Spyreports. The
most avoided team was DOGS OF WAR. Management must be dealin', as the boys at
LOTHLORIEN ain't reelin'! DOGS OF WAR's mad! What do people see in DECAPITATOR?
His 7-3-0? DEATH SQUAD ain't talkin', but he's got 80 points. CORRA of SACRED
CIRCLE knows how to pick 'em. She challenged HANNIBAL of DOGS OF WAR who is up by
24. Now was this a wise move? CORRA perhaps got hers just desserts, seeing as she
was subdued by HANNIBAL and ended up with 29 recognition points. I hate going to the
effort of writing about the kind of fights that BORE-O-ME gets in. He fights people
like DECAPITATOR, 14 points below. I thought BORE-O-ME showed great skill and
promise when he beat DECAPITATOR. All right, so I slept through it! Big deal!
Warriors of JHELUM unite. You have only your games to lose! BAD TRANS OP
larned its lesson (ETHERIAL taught it well), and we right likely won't be seein' 'im
fight any LOTHLORIEN members with the same gusto. How long have I been here? I got
people to see, places to go...
Well, I'm pretty much through. You guys need to get back practicing. JHELUM is
a nice place to live, but I don't like to live in nice places. Remember--a good
fighter needs both good skills and good luck. Until next time,-- Olaf Modeen

Celeborn -- Young fellow, you are not lacking in courage, but you need more common
sense! -- Hannibal
P.S. Or perhaps you are the unfortunate victim of an input error?
P.P.S. By the way, would you have any objection to a cameo appearance?

Gimlet -- Ah, that piercing stare! It should probably be outlawed as a non-standard
weapon for arena dueling, but you DO use it well. -- Howard
P.S. I don't object to losing to an experienced, two-fisted drinker like yourself,
but remember not to kill me. I would really dislike being killed.

Legalass -- I'm impressed, I admit it. Not every golem, much less a masculine-
gendered golem, can carry off the "cross-dressing" thing that well. Elves can do it,
of course, but then, to elves, there is no such thing as "gendered" clothing. If
it's...pretty, any elf will wear it. Just don't send me the cleaning bill. --
Epimonidas

Serial Killer -- Ma'am, that was MY serial. I'm partial to wheaties, they're really
hard to get here, and I do NOT like it when some floozy comes along and eats them all
up! -- Jimmy Custer

Galadriel -- Always glad to oblige a beautiful woman, ma'am. If you could just
(wincing) be a little more careful where you PUT that thing next time? -- Challon

Fair Warning! From time to time, I will write some little bit of fluff for this
newsletter, to push the warrior listings off the front page. There will be no firm
plotline. There may not even be a soft, wishy-washy plotline.
If warriors not of my team appear in an episode, it will be as cameos, in and
out in one shot, I will spell their names correctly, and there will be something
heroic about them--within reasonable limits. In the absence of specific information
from their managers, I will interpret their characters based on warrior name, team
name, official race, style, or any other information that freely comes to my hand
(meaning, that one of my warriors has fought). You CAN post something in the
newsletter, I suppose, if you want to. You could, for instance, post a note to the
effect that some warrior or team does NOT want to appear. This is perfectly okay
with me; no hard feelings will be generated.
You are welcome to take off from anything I may write and make your own story,
in fact, I'd be delighted if somebody did. -- the player behind Dogs of War

Decapitator -- What's Decapitator, precious? -- Scandalf

Howard -- Are you feeling better now? Galadriel, the fairest, has had her honor
defended! Methinks I could be learning something (but I should still brush my teeth
before uttering such a fair name). -- Gimlet

Epimonidas -- There's that rash on my elbow again that always makes me swing wide!
Better get some more antiEpimonidasointment. -- Legalass

Jimmy Custer -- Where have you been? Seems like we haven't fought in ages and poor
Epimonidas grows weary of my company. Sleepily yours, Bore-O-Me

Howard -- If I weren't so stuck up, I might give you some advice. But then I am
Aragant.

Civil War/The Crusades

The next edition of the Civil War series is to be held in Tobir, arena 14, beginning
November 25th with a round where all participating managers must DA all 5 of their
warriors; in addition all warriors must be prefixed with an A an F or a D in the
following manner: A-Broke Stroker or (A) Broke Stroker. Names simply beginning with
the letter of your federation will NOT count as properly prefixed! Existing teams
are welcome but no warrior who survives the DA who had prior Fight Experience (arena
or tourney) will be allowed to score or challenge into the contest teams. There will
be an equal number of teams set up for each of the three factions (Andorian, Free
Blades, and Delarquan) to create sides as equal as possible. This along with the DA
round should set up pretty equal footing for all managers. After the DA there will
be another round where you can either DA again or fight your new, or surviving,
warriors so they will be set up to challenge an opponent beginning on round 1. So as
a recap DA round, turn 0, then turn 1 it begins with the following rules:

The Civil War to be held in arena 14.
- The contest runs for 10-28 turns (barring ties).
- No tourney participation allowed. Teams with warriors participating in any
  tournament are disqualified.
- An even number of teams per faction worked out by the Faction Leaders. No later
  substitutions are allowed.
- If a manager brings in a second team and challenges into the contest he is DQ'd and
his side will fight one team short!
- Three factions will be participating: Andorian, Delarquan, Free Blades
- Everyone prefixes their warrior with A-, F-, or D- (No prefix = disqualification of
  the warrior)
- Turn DA: (The DA Round) November 25, 2006. Every warrior must DA. (Warriors not
DA'd on Turn 0 are disqualified)
- Turn 0: December 9th, 2006. There will be no scoring this turn it is meant to
allow for challenges on turn 1.
- Turn 1+: Scoring as detailed below
- Each team gets 1 point for defeating a warrior from an opposing team.
- Fights against warriors on your team do not generate points in any situation.
- The team with the most points each turn gets a Battle Point (if there is a tie for
the most points then no Battle Points are accrued)
- The first team to 10 Battle Points wins the war
- Managers of teams on the winning side each receive a +1 bonus potion to be used on
a warrior on their contest team. This must be applied within a month of the
conclusion of the contest and the team must have been active on the last turn of
  the contest.

Anyone wishing to participate, and feels they can probably stick around for the
duration (don't want to handicap a side, of course unforeseeable events cannot be
planned for), should either diplo me at THE DEATH SQUAD(63) in Tobir (arena 14) or
place a personal ad in the arena. You may also contact me via the Duel2.com boards!
Let me know which faction you would like to fight for! This contest is intended to
be open to ALL managers wishing to pit themselves against each other to try and
determine which faction has the best managers! -- Street Legal

I am back in the arena and thinking back to those days in 1984 where I was a
novice and clueless manager.
Now, 22 years later it looks like I am an ancient and once again clueless
manager.
I am looking to recover some old warriors. Since none of them are Aimed Blows,
they are no threat to win anything. I just want to see how they turned out.

The Couatl 2-17
Madam Butterfly 20-701
Gypsy Moth 20-703
King Crab 21-1
Priestess Python 26-1388

Please contact me at DekeYoung@Comcast.net if you know about any of these ancient
warriors, or just want to bs about the old, old, old times.

It is obvious that the Dark Knights wish to be shown the light. Allow me to step
forward and blind them with truth. YOU ARE WORTHLESS!!! The Dark Knights are so
afraid of the light that they hide behind their black armor and empty threats. It is
too bad they are unwilling to actually FIGHT us! I guess our natural light is too
bright for you all to face! Fear us, for we are here! -- Gemini Goldphoenix,
