DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
Notes from the arena champ.
The boss is going on and on about my karma and how I better watch it and 'those
what lives by the sword' and all that. But you know, I don't care. Live, die,
whatever. If I lose, I might die. If I win, I might kill. So what? That's what we
do, right? You can't make a bunch of people fight with swords and axes and not
expect somebody to bite it sooner or later.
This time it was just later. Red Fusion, you shoulda stayed down, you were too
stubborn for your own good. That high will bit you in the backside this time, I
guess. Look on the bright side, though--your boss might get a lucky replacement, and
you might do well in the Dead tournament coming up. I'm not going to apologize for
killing you, because that's exactly what I wanted to do, and you weren't good enough
to stop me. But I do offer my condolences to your boss, because it's got to be worse
for him than you. I mean, you're dead, I doubt you care much at this point. I don't
want to lose, or die, but I do hope your team gets revenge. Somehow. I don't see
anybody else from your team, but it could happen maybe. Unavenged deaths are kind of
pitiful. Pathetic, even. So bring it on, fellas, you know where I am.
There are no challenger champs, so it looks like I fight an NPC this time. I
doubt I'm lucky enough to go 3-0-3, but wouldn't that be sweet? I killed a mook when
I came back with two crits to my chosen location, then a konk to the noggin when he
went down to his knees. I hope it's that easy this time. I guess we'll soon find
out.

SPY REPORT
Well, what are you looking at, TRANSEL? Ain't you never seen Snide Clemens
before? Ah, shaddup and listen to my news. Later days, SUPER HEROES, since SCIENCE
FICTION took top team from you this turn, you guys are old news. CROSS BREED turned
their 1-0-0 turn into a 7th place rank in the listings this turn. Any better than
this, and you get put on hit lists. Gee, I'm impressed, a 4-1-0 is nice, but don't
get cocky, SCIENCE FICTION, the Fates teach humility, and the Fates are proud. Of
course, we're all terribly impressed to see JOHN CHRICHTON win a fight and gain 15
points, terribly. Tsk, tsk, JOHN CHRICHTON beat GRIZZLY ADAMS and GRIZZLY ADAMS lost
10 points. You're breakin' my heart. And if variety is the spice of life, TRANSEL
may be getting bland, as IVANMOE stays top dog in the city. I'm not in a very good
mood today, but why am I telling you this? You want to know what's new, don't you,
TRANSEL?
He who fights and runs away will live to fight another day, the coward. What's
the big D? SOUL STRIPPERS II was the most avoided team? Bunch of lily livered...
grumble... mumble... curse... And it looks like SUPER HEROES avoided them the most
this turn. What a pack of would be losers, if you ask me. Hmph. Ooh, I'm
frightfully impressed, BOEUF GRAS was this turn's most challenged warrior. Watch
that ego swell, sports fans. I notice SERENGETI challenging down 19 points to fight
ANGEL, BATTLE BEASTS doubtless has some rotten excuse for such an insult to honor.
Question now is, will TRANSEL accept this sort of tacky behavior? SERENGETI beating
ANGEL. The insult, the....yech!
Death and Taxes. The less death I see, the more it taxes my patience. Let's
see if anyone's dead or dying. I could say I saw this coming, but so could anyone
else. Anyway, this turn it came. BOEUF GRAS' 8-22-0 has earned him the Dark Arena.
Titanium shields and bamboo daggers, guess what brave team is developing these kinds
of weapons?
I was about to buy a new quill pen the other day, but some fighter took it for
an epee. Forgive me for writing with a dagger. Well, I've had enough of this
drivel, and I'm sure you have too. Off like a dirty shirt of padded leather. Glad
to see the back of this place-- Snide Clemens

Batman -- That's more like it. I knew I could beat you, maybe not at any given
moment, but if I'm ready for you.... -- Kaiari
Sensei Jan -- Glad to see it. Guess I'm in the right place after all? -- Saucy Jack,
yr ob'd'nt 'umble mgr., Soul Strippers
P.S. That's a scary-looking basher you got there. I neglected last turn to mention
that I was impressed.
It's New! -- I didn't really expect that. A win, yes. It seems you got Ivanmoe's
standard strategy. He had a special plan for Red Fusion, should his challenges have
gone through--I doubt it would have lasted 9 minutes, and I also doubt there would
have been death at the end. I hope you can/will wage a bloodfeud. -- Saucy Jack
Pandora -- Plainsman is too stupid for me to allow him to speak in public, but he's
had quite a few grunting chuckles since the fight. Thought you'd like to know. -
Saucy Jack
Caseopeia -- Well done. I'm patient. You'll get yours, in the end. -- Uncle Spanky
(no pun intended)
Second Omen -- A wise man (me) once said, about a game of chess, "You can't win them
all." I don't know if I can, either, but I won that one. So now I say the same
thing to you. -- Philosononymous (the true author of most wise or clever cliches, but
sadly forgotten most of the time)
Dark Pantheon -- Hope the fight last turn was a toe in the water and not an input
mistake. Either way, long time no see, glad you're still around. -- Saucy Jack
Druid -- Well then, let's pick it up a notch, shall we? My friends of the Condition
ought to be here this turn. They're completely new to the games, but hopefully we
can get them off to a good start. I know their manager isn't afraid of a little
competition. -- Saucy Jack
Assur -- Kill off some of the weak ones and stick around! Maybe it's just me, but
the RUGs have been kind here since my return. -- Saucy Jack
Hmm, lookie there, guess the champs can fight the mouthy one after all.... Still
rusty on the maneuvering, excuse us while we get our you-know-what together. -- Saucy
Jack
Saucy Jack -- The average of our team stats huh? Sound harmless enough. My team's
are: 12.5 - 7.25 - 11.5 - 16.5 - 17.75 - 7.25 - 12.5. Anyone else? -- Sensei Jan and
Battle Beasts
Green Hornet -- Good fight. You certainly have some moves, especially for your
style. -- Serengeti
Assur -- Good bye, buddy. You will be missed! -- Sensei Jan
Ashanti -- Wow. Poor little thing. -- Vizzerdrix
Rabid Prophet -- Dang, I actually looked like I knew what I was doing. -- Spongebob
Sensei -- I thought I was in control too...ouch. -- Druid
P.S. Is Spongebob avoiding us now?
Ivanhoe -- Come out and playyyyyyyy. -- Ashanti
Jack -- I'd be happy to do the stat comparison as soon as I get this team up to full
strength. Unfortunately, I've sent in two replacements (for Pegasus and Endymion) to
RSI and they must have gotten lost because I haven't gotten their overviews yet. --
Druid
Serengeti -- Oh yeah. You got me. You knocked the snot out of me. Good fight.
Congrats on your win. -- Green Hornet
Boeuf Gras -- I was surprised I beat you like I did. I had to try to see if I was
good enough. -- Batgirl
Kaiari -- Well I guess you got me back. I just hope you taught me some skills. I
know you won. Congrats on your win. -- Batman
All -- If I don't challenge, or I challenge wrong, I'm sorry. I'm not getting my
results back from these fights till three days before they are due. I don't know if
RSI mail is slow or something else. I just wish I could get my results faster. --

ANNOUNCING THE RETURN OF STORMCROWE SLAUGHTERHOUSE
The last Stormcrowe Slaughterhouse was one of the closest and most exciting
contests ever held in Alastari. Such an epic demands a sequel. Therefore, Master
Darque and Jack Wolfspider are pleased to announce the return of the Stormcrowe
Slaughterhouse.
Where? Stormcrowe DM 45 (slow). When? The Slaughterhouse returns on Turn 207,
due August 19. How can you get into the action? Bring a team (one per entrant
please) to arena 45 and announce your intention to join the contest in the Personals.
Rules: This time around the rules are very simple. Each warrior win against a
higher rated opponent (one or more points higher in the ratings) brings you 10
points, against even rated opponent 7 points, lower rated 5 points. Wins against
NPCs or by a warrior who downchallenges are worth 0 points. Points are doubled for
kills. All warriors in the arena whether participating in the Slaughterhouse or not
are fair game. Points are totaled weekly, and the contestant whose team has racked
up the most points at the end of 10 turns is declared Slaughterhouse Champion.
Prizes: To be announced; we're still talking with RSI about it. Figure it will
be something pretty good. But hey, who needs prizes when the honor of being
Slaughterhouse Champion awaits!
More info: Master Darque, MasterDarqueDM@aol.com, or Jack Wolfspider,
russtulp@aol.com. Or diplo Darque Forces (428) or Dynastic (433) in Arena 45.
26 June 2003
All -- Would you be willing to proxy my lunger Ganglare at the Face-to-Face? He's
fighting in the champions tourney. Thanks. Write: Michael Rogers #25335-013, PO
