"What is it you want, Kree'resh?" asked Liam. The tall figure dropped the body to the blue rug and licked the blood from his lips. "So good of you to come, Necromancer," Kree'resh said. "Do you wish to feed?" Disappointment crossed Kree'resh's face. "No, you wouldn't would you, priest of Ahringol. No matter. Will you give me what my master wants?" Liam smiled. "What Shamias took from your master's Holy Mahsh is now Ahringol's." Anger covered Kree'resh's whole body. "You dare challenge the scimitar of Wrath of the Flail of Justice that is the mighty Kjarran!" "Yes, I do, Kree'resh," said Liam as he tapped the door with his black staff. Shamias came in with Barrtana in tow. Kree'resh fell to his knees as Shamias showed the holy symbol of Demnat. "Keep away from me!" said Kree'resh. Shamias put his symbol back under his shirt and put his hand on his shortsword at his hip. Kree'resh slowly stood back up and spoke with a shaky voice." This is your last warning Liam of Transel. Return the sacred gem or the sacerdotal of the sword and the flail will fall on you with the might of Kjarran the Terrible," said Kree'resh. The three turned and walked out the door. Liam stopped and looked back. "Kree'resh, the next time we meet, one of us dies." And with that he shut the door behind him. "Barrtana tell Mrs. Zamfreeni where Kree'resh is," said Liam. Barrtana gave a wicked little smile. "With pleasure," and slipped down the hallway humming to herself. * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * Sunlight fell through the closed window onto Saucy Jack's small, cluttered desk in the almost-renovated guildhouse. He sighed and opened a drawer, then produced a heavy pouch that barely fit in his hand. Gold coins clinked together inside, and he started to hand it to the man opposite him, then balked. "You know," he said, standing as he spoke and slowly circling around the edge of the desk, "This is a fair bit of lucre I'm nigh on handing ya'. Might I ask--what's in it for you?" Jack observed the man: tall, lanky, scarred; a kannar, most likely cityborn, probably had done some time at sea. His scimitar's handle was wrapped in well-worn leather, and the sheath was battered enough to figure it had seen a lot of action. The man's answer was in a voice that fit him, gravelly and curt, "He pays well." Jack nodded, looked at the pouch in his hand. "Not this well, I'm bettin'." They exchanged a look. The man, to his credit, proved loyal in the end. "I'll be going now," he said. He reached for the pouch, and Jack dropped it. For a moment the man thought the bag changed into a knife until his senses registered Jack's sleight-of-hand, but he reacted quickly enough; the murderous thrust only succeeded in cutting the fabric of his shirt. Jack dodged a punch aimed at his face. The other managed to draw his scimitar and make one awkward slash, easily parried, as Ivanmoe stepped through the door behind him. The warrior looked almost bored as he abruptly jabbed his fingers up and into the man's armpit. Staggered, the collector dropped his scimitar; Ivanmoe reached around him from the other side and in one unbroken movement crushed the man's windpipe, holding him almost gently until he stopped gasping. "I had it under control," Jack said. Ivanmoe ignored him. "I want the bloodfeud," he said as he let the body slump to the floor. Jack slowly walked around the desk and sat down, fidgeted with something on the drawer, then replaced the bag of gold in his desk. "Take care of that mess, would you?" Ivanmoe blinked, inhaled, blinked again. "You bastard. You're not going to let me, are you?" "I ain't decided nothin' yet. But not this week, no. Get rid of that"--he pointed at the corpse--"and get out to the common room. We got company coming." "You're as bad as the..." Ivanmoe said, grunting in mid-sentence as he hefted the dead man into a half-sitting position and started to drag him through the door, "last son of a bitch to manage us." Jack chuckled. "Don't worry, I'm just warming up. I'll get a lot worse." SPY REPORT Hail TRANSEL! Warriors of the arena, prepare to be praised and blamed for your deeds. It seems the training can make the difference, as JETHRO'S TOOLS is pushed out of top team by SOUL STRIPPERS II, who came from 2nd with a 3-2-1 this turn. Now keep the taverns open late tonight, for there are sorrows to drown for TWILIGHT SHADOW, whose 1-1-0 this turn dropped them by 7 into 14th. WINGED LEGION stable has parlayed this turn's 2-3-0 into a 4 space move up the rankings. This brings them up to 8th place. Good work, guys! And let's see, YASNAC fought GRYPHON and gained 20 points and contributed to SOUL STRIPPERS II's 3-2-1. DELAPP has lost to ASHANTI, falling 12 points, while helping make NIGHT TRAIN a 1-4-0 turn. Defending his title for another turn, VIZZERDRIX kept SOUL STRIPPERS II's warrior, IVANMOE, from claiming the throne. Can someone confirm a rumor for me? I hear the top team makes their losing fighters do dishes at The Sultan's Tent until they win. Maybe? He who challenges well, fights well. He who avoids without cause, shall lose for good reasons. My mama told me that one. I also notice that the SCIENCE FICTION stable was the most avoided team this turn. Come on TRANSEL, what are you afraid of? And guess who avoided SCIENCE FICTION stable the most? Believe it or not, it was JETHRO'S TOOLS. Anyone surprised? Well, sports fans, take notice that FAT MAN from JETHRO'S TOOLS was TRANSEL's most challenged warrior this turn. Well now, what do you expect when someone like CASEOPEIA from SCIENCE FICTION challenges down 23 points to fight DOVE of WINGED LEGION? It pains me to see warriors take advantage of the system like this. CASEOPEIA bested DOVE, as if it surprises anyone. I don't know about you, but UNCLE SPANKY challenging down 16 points to BATTLE BEASTS' MEDUSA, is not really worthy of SOUL STRIPPERS II. We're not surprised to hear that UNCLE SPANKY defeated MEDUSA, but I bet it would be interesting to hear why SOUL STRIPPERS II made such a challenge. In a brave attempt, KAIARI from SOUL STRIPPERS II challenged up 22 points to fight PANDORA from the KREWE OF DRUID stable. KAIARI perhaps got hers just desserts, seeing as she was bested by PANDORA and ended up with 40 recognition points. We only live a short time in this world, so why not take a sharp blade, and shave it close? The manager of HEME-JO CONDITION will not be pleased to learn that MITSURGI, a 2-0-1 fighter, has been killed at the hands of JETHRO'S TOOLS' BLACK MAMBA. Kudos go out to BARRTANA HAVAL this turn, for revenging TWILIGHT SHADOW's bloodfeud against KREWE OF DRUID's warrior DIANE. Well done. Congratulations go out to SOUL STRIPPERS II, with PLAINSMAN revenging a bloodfeud against WARCHILD of JETHRO'S TOOLS. The Sultan's Tent declares a free round for FAT MAN and all of JETHRO'S TOOLS, for having revenged TWILIGHT SHADOW's SHAMIAS WILDROCK for killing one of their comrades. Is it really true that TRANSEL has more dishwashers per capita that fighters? Just thought I'd ask... I like this place, TRANSEL, the taverns have old wine, and young serving girls. Who could ask for more? It's been nice chatting with you, until we meet again, keep your swords sharp and your hammers heavy. Until you see my quill in TRANSEL again, farewell-- Alarond the Scribe DUELMASTER W L K POINTS TEAM NAME VIZZERDRIX 5493 19 7 1 119 BATTLE BEASTS (464) CHALLENGER CHAMPIONS W L K POINTS TEAM NAME ASHANTI 5352 13 16 2 111 KREWE OF DRUID (369) -BEN WEINSTEIN 5613 8 5 0 100 STR8 OUTTA ROCKRIDGE (490) CHAMPIONS W L K POINTS TEAM NAME JOHN CHRICHTON 5563 13 7 0 96 SCIENCE FICTION (456) CHAMPIONS W L K POINTS TEAM NAME -DARKFURY 5029 22 12 0 88 DARK PANTHEON (317) DELAPP 5686 12 7 0 86 NIGHT TRAIN (497) GRIZZLY ADAMS 5596 13 6 1 85 BATTLE BEASTS (464) SPONGEBOB 5460 15 9 0 83 BATTLE BEASTS (464) -DARK THUNDER 5397 9 4 0 73 DARK PANTHEON (317) IVANMOE 3874 13 5 4 71 SOUL STRIPPERS II (237) CHALLENGER ADEPTS W L K POINTS TEAM NAME PANDORA 5459 16 10 0 60 KREWE OF DRUID (369) ADEPTS W L K POINTS TEAM NAME SECOND OMEN 5642 4 2 0 54 DARK PANTHEON (317) -BATGIRL 5623 5 1 0 50 SUPER HEROES (492) PLAINSMAN 3915 11 5 0 47 SOUL STRIPPERS II (237) KAIARI 5656 3 4 0 40 SOUL STRIPPERS II (237) HAN SOLO 5598 8 8 0 36 SCIENCE FICTION (456) -SERENGETI 5627 8 3 0 34 BATTLE BEASTS (464) CHALLENGER INITIATES W L K POINTS TEAM NAME -SPIDERMAN 5622 3 3 0 33 SUPER HEROES (492) BLACK MAMBA 5753 2 2 2 32 JETHRO'S TOOLS (498) R. Please advise me if you are a new or inexperienced player, and I'll give you a pass. -- Doc Steele 1 August 2003 Assurnasirbanipal invites you to Talcama to participate in the third BATTLE ROYAL contest. It is a Delarquan contest so brutal that even some of Talcama's most notable managers will refuse to participate. The rules are simpler than any other contest: You may not avoid any other contest team. There are no silly rules for who can and can't compete. Any team in Talcama is eligible to compete. The scoring is also quite simple (+1 for a win, +1 for a kill (+1 for the win), -1 for a loss) and the first team to reach 25 points is the winner. Scoring will be live--the results for the turn posted in the newsletter. The winner will be able to fight their contest team in Talcama for free for 6 months but more importantly will win a contest against some of the best managers who play the game in one of the hardest contests in the game. First turn for BATTLE ROYAL 3 is Talcama Turn 465, which is due August 30. 19 August 2003 Citizens of Ghea (only the ignorant fail to note Lirith Kai is not in Alastari), no new day is rising, but the sun is setting on just another beautiful evening. While you were sleeping, an irksome rabble has entered the always fair Aruak City. Of course they fought alongside our warriors, most not so treasured, as all gladiators do. They drank with themselves, and slept with themselves. Whether they had masks, who cares. Warriors, don't be afraid. For years Aruak has been one of the safest cities in Ghea, and that custom has been continually cultivated, and will continue to be by those who have called it home for years and those who live, fight, and die by the same ethics. There is no contest, nor has there ever needed to be one for many years. A conflict of personalities has arisen, and the city has been 'invaded' by pests. Any rules that are annouced will be purely for the joy of the lemmings' own little world. Those who are being targeted have no interest in participating except to defend the integrity of an arena that is different from others. Whether you choose to come to Aruak, do it for your own reasons, not theirs. Competing in Aruak City has never been for the faint of heart or the weak willed. Combat is combat, wherever you go. Blood will flow as always, and now many innocents will be caught in the middle, but those who defend Aruak's traditions never target those who bring respect of Aruaki customs with them to our home. So ignore the private ranting announcement brought by the stuporous Frothingsloshers. If you choose Aruak City, do not choose it for an unsanctioned and bogus 'contest', choose it for the tradition. Choose it because Aruak is different.
