Xochithlan, the royal palace:

Tirisha Dulake leaned closer to her cousin, King Feyen, and pouted. "You can't
be so hard hearted, Pootles," she cooed. "It isn't like I'm asking a LOT from
you...."
Feyen was too dark skinned to blush noticeably, but he felt himself getting
rather warm under the collar. "Don't call me that!" he hissed. [It is a gift in the
royal family of Xochithlan to be able to hiss words which contain no esses.] "You're
the only one who remembers that Mother used to call me that! But what if someone
overhears?" He peered around nervously. Eavesdropping was the national pastime in
Xochithlan, but he thought his throne room was reasonably secure. Still, if anyone
heard her say that name.... He shuddered.
"If you'll give me the soldiers, dearest cousin, I'll be so busy and so far
away, I'm sure I'll forget."
"But Tirisha, I can't! If I sent Xochithlani Royal Guardsmen into Mordanti
territory, it could start a war, or at LEAST," he shuddered again, "Samir would send
that battlemage of his to 'make an official protest' and the man has NO sense of
style at all. His hair, his beard!" King Feyen stroked his own perfect little
mustache. "It's impossible, Tirisha, you must see that!"
"No, it is NOT impossible." Her coo was getting ragged around the edges,
letting the iron determination show through. She took a deep breath, noting that,
as with every other man who saw her do that, she had riveted Feyen's attention; after
all, they were only second cousins on one side. "You don't need to send the whole
Royal Guard. I'm sure I won't need a thousand men in Rodeki. It's such a LITTLE
place. A hundred will be enough to protect me, DEAR Feyen." She blew in his ear.
Feyen took his own deep breath and managed not to melt on the spot. "Well...a
hundred men, then, but no more! And not in Royal Xochithlani uniform, either!"
"Of course not, coz." She patted his arm as she straightened up. "I wouldn't
want anyone to get the idea they were on YOUR business." She slid out of reach just
a little ahead of King Feyen's reaching hands. "You won't have any trouble at all
over this, dear coz."

Arenamaster Xoron, a practitioner of the Ancient Elvish Martial Art of Seelie-
Khuei, was deeply resistant to feminine wiles. He was, however, extremely interested
in cash. Tirisha had plenty of cash.
"I guess I could find you a few gladiators to serve as a personal bodyguard," he
muttered, mentally fingering the coins Tirisha had placed on the table between them.
"I couldn't vouch for their reliability, though."
"I will attend to that," Tirisha said briskly. "Twenty ounces of gold for every
gladiator you can find me. Payable when they sign up."

Warriors and managers are invited to accompany Tirisha Dulake to Rodeki, or wherever
she may end up going. A note in the personals addressed to Scribe, or an email to
Livia@reality.com will do it.

Jhans:

"That is a fight you cannot win, Princess Morra," Chancellor Ethylbyrr said. He
leaned forward to emphasize his point, one hand on the report that had sparked the
discussion. "It is better not to enter a battle you cannot win."
     "Darron wouldn't--"
"Princess, your brother is no longer a boy, he is a young man now," the old man
said. "He will not be pleased to receive...advice from his older sister, much less
commands. Even without his new friends, he would be reluctant to--"
"All right, you've made your point." She looked away. Looked out the window
across the city of Jhans, but she didn't really see it. Didn't want to see it, if
the truth be told. She was surprised to realize that what she really wanted to see
at this moment was her husband, Gryzash the Golden. She had not felt strongly about
him one way or the other, theirs had been a marriage of political expediency. But
Gryzash was--had been--a confident, decisive man. One whose very presence would awe
these quarreling nobles of Jhans into obedience. Unfortunately, Gryzash was dead.
Her thoughts shifted briefly to their son, Gorris. She might have stayed in Jhans to
fight the treacherous 'advisors' of her brother, except...it was her first duty to
protect her son and defend HIS heritage. Let Prince Darron worry about Jhans now.
It was time for her to leave him to it, for good or ill.
"I must take Gorris to Sibikhas," she said finally. "That is where my duty lies
now. That city is his to rule, by rights, but it is easier to hold onto power than
to win it back after it's been lost. Will you stay here and advise Darron?"
Ethylbyrr laughed sadly and shook his head. "The boy--the young man--wouldn't
have me," he said. "His new friends won't want to share the influence, and...I am a
reminder of his youth. Which he would prefer to forget as he strives to become a man
in his own eyes."
"If you remain in Jhans without a royal post, your life won't be worth--"
"It will be worth nothing at all," the old man said. "I will be dead by the
time you clear the city's gates."
She nodded. There was no mercy in the Delarquan Federation for someone who fell
from power. "Come with me to Sibikhas, then. It would be a shame to waste your wit
and experience, old friend."
The old man half rose from his seat across the table and bowed. "I would be
honored to serve you in Sibikhas or elsewhere, Princess." Seating himself again, he
said, "But you cannot simply decide to leave Jhans and then go. You will need, at
the very least, bodyguards. The Jhans Royal Guard you cannot take with you--they
belong here and will provide some protection from Darron, if he does not run
completely mad and dismiss them. So you will need--"
"Gladiators," she said firmly. "Two or three, at least, as many as half a dozen
perhaps. They are--"
"They are crude men, for the most part," Ethylbyrr protested.
"So? They are less likely than any others to have political axes of their own
to grind. I will have gladiators for bodyguards." She grimaced. "I will need
them."

This is a call for volunteers. A personal, or an email to Livia@reality.com will do
it.

                                      SPY REPORT

I was going on vacation, see? Surf, sun... But what do those bums say? "Hit
the road, Debby Tonte. TRANSEL needs a spyreport." Oh, well. Uncool, SCIENCE
FICTION. I mean 0-0-0 is bad. Will they will be allowed to fight? I say use 'em
for training practice! ROKUGAN II like really fought hard to move up to 5th from
9th. Way to go! MVP award for NORA? LADYHAWKS' proud of her after beating GOONA
and getting 15 points. Talk about yer major upsets! EYLIA's match with HIDA YAKAMO
cost her a loss of 10 points! What a putz! IVANMOE fights so hard to be Duelmaster,
then quits fighting and loses the title. No one said he was a genius... Was that a
tear I saw in SPONGEBOB's eye, as he took over Duelmastership? And wasn't PANDORA
fit to be tied! Who was the wiseguy that said TRANSEL's Duelmaster was paying for
drinks at The Sultan's Tent? Don't look at me!
Look, you guys stick to fighting, all right? SOUL STRIPPERS II was TRANSEL's
most avoided team. Is there some award for that? Hhmph! What kind of warriors are
BATTLE BEASTS? SOUL STRIPPERS II, an easy team to beat if I ever saw one, can't get
them to accept an invitation! Like, is PANDORA popular, or what? She was challenged
the most in all of TRANSEL! She's got a 18-16-0, is that good? SPONGEBOB is being
unfair. He's challenged down 23 against PANDORA. I don't know why they let this
stuff go on. (I'd better shut up) Is this how BATTLE BEASTS advances, by having
their members (SPONGEBOB) fight people that are really below them (PANDORA)? Some
fights are really unfair. How do you think SERENGETI feels about being challenged by
R. WELCH, 16 points above her? R. WELCH beat SERENGETI. No surprise about that.
Really I'm not surprised R. WELCH would do such a scummy thing, either. People were
asking me did SEA LION REALLY challenge BIG SLICK? (all right, maybe they didn't,
but it sounded good!) It wasn't a spectacular fight, or anything, but BIG SLICK wants
me to write about it since he beat SEA LION. Satisfied?
Challenges, revenges, Bloodfeuds. All TRANSEL ever talks about is fighting!
Me, I'm more laid back. Hey you guys, don't you think your families would like to
hear from you? Write! (Or have someone write for you.)
I really didn't, you know, study when I was a kid. Who would've guessed I'd be
a famous Spyreporter? I know how much you like reading this stuff, but I really
should stop. I had a fun time, see you later-- Debby Tonte

Okay Doc Steele, I yield. I can't even beat you on down challenges. You were
successful on 3 bloodfeuds. You win whether I challenge or you challenge. Hell, you
even got back the guy I killed. You crushed me. I know when I am beaten. I give!
-- Shocking Toad, The Manager

Shocking Toad -- I have been busy, so I had to cut the personals out of my routine
for a while. I'm back. For the record, I thought you were handling your beating
very well, and had decided to back off a notch on the intensity meter...when you
challenged back and killed Second Omen. While I still respect your courageous
attitude in the face of defeat; I will now be forced to mercilessly grind you to dust
forever. The fact that Second Omen already fought his way out of the dead tourney
has no bearing on the message that must be sent. I hope you continue to enjoy the
competition, as I enjoy being forced to pay attention enough to change my strategies
around and not just coast in basic. This turn's score was 4-0, in my favor. The
overall score is Doc Steele 14-2-0-1, and Shocking Toad 2-14-1-0. Good luck. -- Doc
Steele

Sensei Jan -- I see you are still doing very well staying ahead of me for career team
honors. Keep it up. -- Doc Steele

Liam -- Sent a diplo back to you. Let me know if it arrives. Good luck! And when
can we expect your friends to start playing? -- Sensei Jan

R. Welch -- Congrats! Your manager has achieved his first win against my manager.
Don't let it go to his head! -- Serengeti

Ivanmoe -- Well! I didn't think you'd beat Delapp. Have fun in ADM. -- Sensei Jan

Delapp -- You really let me down.... -- Sensei Jan

All -- Who will be the next Duelmaster? Will it be the young upstart Fat Man from J-
Tools? Or will Toad be able to overcome the competition with his vast experience as
his makes his run for the throne with Han Solo? Can Doc Steele hold on to his
winning streak with Dark Thunder? Will Delapp ever see the throne again? Stay
tuned.... -- Sensei Jan

Uncle Spanky -- Thanks. I was thinking about getting my tongue pierced anyway. --
Black Mamba

C. Parry -- Well fought! -- Sea Lion

Skarmy of Darkness, Ladyhawks, Sons of Stan -- Howdy! Hope y'all are plannin to stay
a spell. Here's to good fightin'! -- Jethro

Serengeti -- Duly noted. -- R. Welch

Jan -- Boon on maintenance. What's the score? -- BPR

Ivan Moe -- You sexy little beast. You been working out. -- Delapp

Grizzly -- Maybe we will meet at the next level. If I beat you, you've got to shave
your beard. -- Delapp

8 December 2003
Greetings! I would like to invite everyone to Jhans (DM 36) for the first annual kLk
St. Valentine's Day Massacre (kill contest). We will start the contest off with the
ceremonial burning of the Andorian flag on turn 450. (Six turns away. Roughly mid-
February.) The contest will run for 10 turns. On turn 461, 3 separate victors will
be announced. Team with the most kills, warrior with the most kills, and alliance
with the most kills. Prizes will be awarded to the manager of the team with the most
kills and to the manager of the warrior with the most kills. The prizes will
probably be team roll-ups. The number of roll-ups has yet to be determined. The
contest is sponsored by Jhans' newest, (but by the time the contest starts) largest
alliance, the kLk (pronounced "klick"). -- Polarius, mgr. of Blitzkrieg DM 36
